When Bex's mom got home from work she gasped at the sight of her house. She dropped her purse in her hand to the ground in shock and stepped over pieces of her wooden door frame, which was broken, to get into her house.
"Mom!" Abby ran up to her quickly followed by Nathan, they had been sitting on the couch waiting for her to get home.
"What happened!?" she demanded.
"We don't know, it was like this when we got home," Nathan said.
"Rebecca, where is Rebecca, is she okay!?" Their mom quickly ran upstairs.
"She's uh... alive. If that helps." Abby chased after her mom.
"What do you mean she—" she cut herself off after seeing the state her daughter was in.
Bex's whole neck was bruised purple. Blood leaked out of her nose and was now dry and crusted onto her skin. Her breath was shallow and fast-paced, it was clear she was in a lot of pain.
"Oh my god, Rebecca! Call the police!" Their mom ran over to her.
"She told us not to, Lyssa was here too," Nathan said.
"Lyssa?"
"Yeah, she was also pretty banged up. Bex told us not to call the police before she passed out."
"Well, where is Lyssa now?"
"She left." The siblings say in unison.
"That is it, I'm calling your father." She pulled out her phone from her pocket and quickly called him.
When he answered all she said was,
"You need to get home, now!"
Then hung up.
"Rebecca." Their mom shook her by the shoulder to try and wake her up.
Bex gasped in pain, her eyes fluttering open. They were bloodshot and teary-eyed. She glanced at her mother and tried to speak but her voice was all horse and gruff sounding.
"Rebecca what the hell happened?" her mother demanded.
"I don't know." Bex lied.
"You don't know? Our house looks like a bomb went off and you don't know? Are you okay? Do you need a hospital? What is going on?"
"No police, no hospital... I'm okay..." Bex struggled to get out.
"Who did this? Was this Lyssa?"
"I don't know." Bex lied.
"Rebecca enough, tell me what is going on right now!"
"Lyssa will help me fix it..." Bex gasped out for air.
"How did this happen!?"
"I don't know." Bex closed her eyes.
"Rebecca! Answer me."
Bex quickly drifted back to sleep.
"Rebecca!" Her mom shook her by the shoulder.
Bex cried out in pain and quickly woke back up.
"Help me carry her to the car, we have to take her to the hospital." Her mom said.
Nathan nodded.
"No! No hospital."
"Why?" Abby asked.
"Too many... questions..."
The family shared a look.
Bex pushed her mom's hands off and tried to sit up on her own. She held her rib cage in pain and her arm shook as she struggled to sit up. When she finally did sit up she rested against the headboard of her bed and tried to catch her breath.
"I'll fix it...no... police." Bex gasped out.
"That is it, if you don't tell me what happened I am calling the police and saying Lyssa Norwood did this."
"No!" Bex chocked out.
"Then tell me what happened."
"I can't!" Bex cried out.
"I'm calling the police."
"They'll kill her... don't..."
"Kill her?" Abby looked at her mom.
"Hello?" They heard Joan calling from downstairs.
"No..." Bex whined and let her head fall back against the headboard.
"Rebecca!?" Joan called.
"Up here!" Nathan called back.
Joan bounded up the stairs and went into Bex's room.
"Jesus Christ, are you okay!?" Joan ran over to her.
Bex nodded.
"Lyssa did this." Bex's mom said.
"Lyssa did this!?" Joan looked angry.
"No..." Bex shook her head.
"No?" Joan eyed her.
"Not her fault..." Bex said.
"Rebecca, what is going on?" Joan asked.
"I'll fix it... can't tell you... too many questions..." Bex once again closed her eyes as the pain once again took hold of her.
"Bex!" Joan shook her and Bex opened her eyes again.
"Don't hurt her... Please..." Bex said to Joan.
"Did she do this to you?" Joan demanded.
"Not her fault..."
"Bex answer me," Joan demanded.
Bex looked into Joan's eyes and pleaded with her in silence. Begging Joan to stop pushing it. But Joan knew no regular person could do the damage done to Rebecca and the house and just walk away from it. This was done by a vampire.
Which meant it was either Lyssa or one of her pack. Either way, she didn't like her options.
"Rebecca, did Lyssa do this?" Her mom demanded.
"It wasn't her fault," Bex whimpered.
"What do you mean it wasn't her fault?" Joan pushed.
Bex wanted to say the curse but looked to her family. She knew she couldn't. Joan seemed to understand that Bex was trying to protect her family by not telling them the truth.
"Maybe we can just call Lyssa back to explain," Abby suggested.
"No!" Bex said but then winced in pain.
"I'll find her myself." Joan got up to leave.
"No! Don't hurt her." Bex grabbed Joan by her shirttail.
"If she did this to you, I swear I will—"
"Don't... you can't. It wasn't her fault. It was my fault. I'll fix this, promise."
"You can't just keep making excuses for her! Did she do this or not, answer me!" Joan demanded.
"Wait you make it sound as if this sort of thing has happened before, is Lyssa abusive to you?" Bex's mom asked.
"No... not like that..." Bex shook her head.
"You are staying away from her, I am done with this Rebecca. I won't let her do this to you anymore. Don't you see... she's killing you." Joan pleaded.
"It wasn't her fault!" Bex tried to scream but her voice cracked.
"Does Lyssa hurt you?" Her mom pushed.
Bex shook her head no but struggled to breathe.
"This ends today." Joan stepped out of Bex's grasp.
"If you hurt her, you hurt me..." Bex reminded her.
Joan clenched and unclenched her fist.
"How many times has Lyssa hurt you exactly?" Her mom demanded.
"Honey!?" Their dad could be heard downstairs.
"Up Here!" she called.
Bex was getting overwhelmed, she needed to think of a lie but she was in too much pain to really think of anything but that. She did the only thing she could think of in her panic and that was to call Lyssa to her.
Her dad came upstairs and did a double-take at Rebecca.
"What happened!?" he demanded.
"Wouldn't we all like to know." Bex's mom crossed her arms and looked back at Bex.
Before anyone could say something else they heard someone coming up the stairs. They shared looks of confusion before Lyssa entered the room.
Lyssa looked fine, all her bruises were gone and it was clear to Bex that the vampire had fed somewhere. Of course, only Bex knew that, but her siblings were confused as to how Lyssa looked like that when only about an hour or so ago she looked as bad as Bex.
Lyssa stood there in her black jeans and blood-red doc marten boots. She had on a black no sleeved crop top and a dark red flannel to go over it. The sleeves of the flannel were rolled up to her elbows and the sides of the flannel were unbuttoned and hung down past her waist. She had on her usual red crystal necklace, her lips covered in blood-red lipstick. Her eyeliner was thick and her eyes shadow, as usual, smokey. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail which had a tiny tail being as Lyssa's hair was still pretty short. A couple of strands of black hair escaped the hold of the ponytail and hung loosely on the side of her face.
Lyssa's chartreuse eyes glanced over each person in the room before landing on Rebecca. Lyssa seemed different, edgier. Whereas normal Lyssa would leave her hair down to try and hide her pointed ears, this Lyssa didn't seem to care if anyone saw her ears. Normal Lyssa would have been cautious and waited for the room to clear before coming to Rebecca, this Lyssa didn't care who saw her. Normal Lyssa would have done better not to show off her more vampire characteristics, but this Lyssa couldn't care less about that.
She walked past everyone and scooped Bex up into her arms.
Bex hissed in pain and clung tightly to Lyssa's arm.
"W-what are you doing?" Bex's mom asked.
"Taking Rebecca with me so that she can heal in peace."
"The hell you are." Joan got in her face.
Bex could feel Lyssa's anger spike. Her desire to kill Joan.
"Don't..." Bex said to Lyssa.
Lyssa narrowed her eyes at Joan.
"Put her down," Joan demanded.
"Rebecca is coming with me," Lyssa repeated.
"No, she's not."
"She's mine so back off." Lyssa hissed.
"She's not an object to own!" Joan said.
Lyssa set Bex back down on the bed.
"No! Lyssa no." Bex tried to reach out for her but cried out in pain and clutched at her ribs.
Lyssa got in Joan's face and flashed her red eyes.
"I'm not scared of you." Joan faced off against her.
"You have no idea," Lyssa shook her head and smirked.
"No idea?"
"I'm not the same Lyssa you pushed around before. Stay away from Rebecca or I will kill you." Lyssa threatened.
Joan eyed Lyssa in confusion. Joan could tell something was off. Lyssa was never so brazen, so bold in front of other people who didn't know she was a vampire.
"She and I are together now," Joan said.
"No, you're not. If you ever touch her, kiss her, or even talk to her again there will be a price to pay. She is mine and mine alone. Do not test me."
"Lyssa stop," Bex pleaded.
"Who do you think you are!? You can't talk about my daughter like that." Bex's mom jumped in.
Lyssa pushed Bex's mom away, so hard that the woman fell on her butt.
"Hey! Don't you touch my mom!" Nathan got in Lyssa's face.
Lyssa clenched her fist.
"Lyssa, enough!" Bex ordered.
Lyssa narrowed her eyes but let her hand relax.
"You are not going with her Rebecca, not now, not ever!" Her father put his foot down.
"Dad, please,"
"Rebecca is mine now. You have no say on whether she goes with me or not." Lyssa said.
"My daughter is not your property." Her dad hissed.
"Dad stop!" Bex pleaded.
"You better leave or else." Joan threatened.
"I am not leaving without my Rebecca."
The room quickly erupted into protest.
"Stop it!" Bex's hoarse voice cracked and broke through the noise.
"But Rebecca."
"No. I'm going with her. No police... No hospital. Lyssa and I will fix this mess as soon as possible, right Lyssa." Bex shot Lyssa a look.
"If that is what you wish." Lyssa nodded.
"You aren't going with her." Her mom said.
"You can't stop me." Bex struggled to get off the bed, Lyssa quickly moved to her side and once again scooped her up in her arms.
"Bex what are you doing? She hurt you!" Joan got in the way.
"She would never hurt me, I trust her," Bex said.
"Well I don't!"
Lyssa pushed past Joan and began to leave the room.
"Hey! Stop!" Joan chased after them.
Lyssa used one hand to hold Bex, the other to grab Joan by the collar of her shirt and hold her over the stairs.
"Lyssa no!" Bex cried out.
"Do you really want to do this here?" Joan eyed Lyssa before her eyes glanced at Bex's oblivious family.
"Why don't you find out?" Lyssa smirked.
"Joan don't, just let us go. I'll explain later. I promise." Bex said.
Joan sighed and Lyssa put her down before pushing past her once more. Bex's family watched helplessly as Lyssa carried her away and out of the house. Once they were out of eyesight Lyssa quickly used her vampire speed to go to her house.
Once there she started a warm bath and then helped Bex undress before slowly lowering her into the warm water. Bex sighed in relief and let her body relax in the water.
"Thank you, and I'm sorry... for everything." Bex said.
"I don't want you seeing that slayer anymore."
"Lyssa,"
"No! You are mine. Mine alone."
"Lyssa you can't just force me to do that..." Bex struggled to breathe.
"I love you, Rebecca."
"Lyssa we've talked about this, I don't want you to change me."
"I can't live without you," Lyssa whimpered.
Bex sighed and sank deeper into the tub.
"I'm sorry I did this to you." Lyssa caressed Bex's cheek.
Bex grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers.
"We'll figure this all out, I know we will."
Lyssa smiled and kissed Bex's hand before she got up and began to strip out of her clothes. Once she was naked, she got in the tub with Bex and began to help her clean up. She picked glass and wood chips out of Bex's back. She scrubbed off the dried blood, she massaged the knots out of Bex's scalp. Then she just held Bex in her arms, letting her rest against the vampire.
After the bath, Lyssa helped Bex get dress and then laid her down on the bed in Bex's own room.
"Where are you going?" Bex asked when Lyssa began to walk out.
"To get supplies to fix your house." She said.
"Okay, just... don't be gone too long." Bex felt herself already drifting off to sleep.
"I won't, rest, I will return soon." With that Lyssa left the room and shut the door.
Bex let her eyes flutter closed and quickly fell asleep.
While she was sleep Lyssa went to several hardware stores and bought tons of supplies to fix up the Cross family home. The Cross's was also cleaning up the mess in the house and doing their best to salvage what could be salvaged.
Lyssa arrived at their house in a rented truck.
"What are you doing back?" Bex's mom hissed at her.
"Fixing what I broke." She said as she began to unload the truck.
Lyssa worked from the outside in. She quickly replaced the patio railing with a new identical one. Then she redid the front door. She walked inside, replaced the hall table with a newer one. She walked over to the kitchen window and spent about 30 minutes replacing and fixing it. The family just watched with mouths open as Lyssa made quick work of their house.
She replaced the coffee table with a new one. She bought a new Tv and a new tv stand. Then in Rebecca's room, she replaced that door, which was also broken. Replaced the tv and the tv stand. Then fixed and replaced the window. She also helped clean up. Picking up what could be saved and trashing all that couldn't
She did all of this without a word to the family.
When she was done the sun had already set and the moon was high in the sky.
Lyssa quickly loaded up all her supplies and left the house. Leaving the Cross's in stunned silence.
When Lyssa got back to her house she went to go and check on Bex, who was still sound asleep. Lyssa sighed and gave her a sad look before disappearing with super speed and reappearing with lots of pain meds and some water.
She walked over to Bex and sat down on the bed next to her before pulling Bex into her lap.
Bex hissed in pain and quickly woke up.
"Sorry my love, but I got you some pain medication." Lyssa pushed some of Bex's hair out of her face.
"Thank you," Bex smiled her signature smile and Lyssa felt her chest tighten.
Lyssa popped out a couple of pills before helping Bex take them, holding the water bottle to her mouth.
"You... never told me... how the curse was broken," Bex said between pants for breath.
"The curse is only broken when I lose someone I truly love. I have to know what it feels like to lose true love." Lyssa said softly.
"Are you all better now? Or... are you still missing part... of yourself."
"I believe I am better, but you can never know with curses and magic."
"Guess so... we do know a warlock we could ask," Bex said.
"I'll keep that in mind, for now, rest. It will take you a very long time to heal. No more physical exertion. I will take care of you until you are better."
"Thank you." Bex closed her eyes again as her body fought to stay awake.
"Rest now my love, I will watch over you."
Bex sighed and let her body fall back asleep.
Lyssa leaned down and kissed her forehead, relaxing in place as she planned on letting Bex rest on her lap until the girl woke up and moved.
