Not A Little Kid Anymore

The Hardest Choices Require The Strongest Wills

The Hardest Choices Require The Strongest Wills

Jun 10, 2020

An attack is imminent. Whether we start it or they start it, it’s gonna happen. We’ve been planning for a couple hours, taking into account both options.

“Where do you think it will be?” I ask, but I’m ignored by both parents. “What do you think will start it?” Again, I’m ignored. Great. Back to normal.

I sigh, wishing I had my bike and could escape. A few minutes later, I hear the sound of a motorbike. I stand up, ready to go outside.

“What are you doing? That could be Dylan,” Dad explains.

“It’s not. It’s F.R.I.D.A.Y. with my bike.”

I hold out a small square to Peter. It’s my old motorbike helmet - I don’t need it anymore.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Papa asks.

“I’m going for a ride and Peter is coming with me.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea. Wha-” Peter starts. Dad cuts him off.

“If you go with Blythe she at least has someone. Go with her.”

Peter reluctantly takes the square from my hand, apparently assuming it was a helmet. We walk outside and there is my bike, resting in all it’s beauty. I hop on, and Peter hops on behind me. He attaches the square to his neck and then grabs my waist, and my own helmet appears. I drive off, half knowing where I want to go.

After about ten minutes, I stop driving. I tap Peter’s hand and he lets go, then I hop off.

“I just want to relax. I don’t get it very often.”

I look around as my helmet disappears, taking in the scenery. We’ve stopped in a field on the edge of a forest. I turn and see Peter handing me back the square, looking a little uncomfortable.

“I need to pee,” He says quickly, then runs into the forest. I smile and shake my head as he runs off, wondering how I could get so lucky to have him as a boyfriend as he escapes my sight.

A strong hand grabs around my waist, holding my arms in place. A cold rag is placed over my nose and mouth, and I recognise the smell radiating from it as chloroform. I struggle, realising that whoever is holding me must know that it takes five minutes for chloroform to kick in. Judging by the strength of the smell, they must want to knock me out as fast as possible.

I continue to struggle, moving on the off chance that they might give up. They don’t, and I panic at the recognition that it’s kicking in. I can’t see who is trying to kidnap me, but they begin to drag me away. I kick my legs, them being the only thing that’s free. Before I black out, I steady myself in the fact that this can’t be Dylan - both arms are fleshy.

--

Oh, fuck. My head is pounding worse than I ever thought it could. I scrunch my eyes up and rub them, then open them up to see my surroundings. For once, I’m glad for Dad’s powers - the chloroform hasn’t had too many of the usual side effects.

The car is moving, and I assume it’s been about twenty minutes. After all, that’s the minimum amount of time for chloroform to wear off. I look to see who else is in the car. When I do, I roll my eyes and sigh.

“For fuck’s sake.”
