Xue: I use a Google Translate to translate single words to create names so it may be inaccurate but apparently, Xuéxí (学习) translates to 'learn'. The Xue Sect focuses more on learning through books and observing rather than actually fighting. They still fight but not as much as other sects. -Google Translate (Chinese, Simplified)
Wu Yong: Wúyòng (无用), translates to 'useless'. It is easy to know why he was renamed. -Google Translate (Chinese, Simplified)
Xue Liang and Liang: Xuè liàng (血量) translates to 'blood volume'. Xue Liang has trouble controlling his anger when it comes to Wu Yong. Blood volume describes this anger. Liàng (亮) translates to 'bright' which was the name given to him after his adoption. He is the bright son of the family. -Google Translate (Chinese, Simplified)
Guqin: a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family. Favoured by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement. -Wikipedia.org (I love listening to this particular instrument but it is not for everyone. Hearing the stringed instrument in dramas is something for me.)
Lunatic boy: Wu Yong is considered a lunatic for many reasons. His parents are the top cultivators yet he is uninterested in following their footsteps. He questions how righteous cultivators truly are and had twisted morals that did not match what the majority thought. He is male but he'd rather play instruments and look at flowers than fight. It is suspected that he is also homosexual but it was never confirmed as he was locked away from a young age. Lastly, he was too rebellious for a young master. -Mind of Author (At one point, Lunatic was my nickname because I thought differently than what was expected of me. I liked hanging out with boys more than girls, I was not afraid to call out people I know were saying the wrong things and so on.)
Sword Stage: The first stage of cultivation which most aspiring cultivators should reach by their seventh year, if not earlier. There are more stages after this one when cultivators start learning: right from wrong, meditation, the rules of nature, magical techniques, exorcism, divine techniques and godly techniques. Wu Yong could not achieve the first stage which automatically meant he is useless in the cultivation world. -Mind of Author (With influence from Chinese novels. Most of them have ranks or levels of cultivation. This book has stages which are the same thing.)
