Conner raises an eyebrow as she makes her way to the girl’s locker room as they pass it. She usually says goodbye and leaves after they reach the gym. "I think I'll do a lap or two before I head home to make the sales cookies," Claire says and she tugs at the sleeves of Elizabeth's jacket.
"Besides, My PE clothes don't have any paint on them." Conner grins and mimes getting splattered and faking an injury, leaning against the wall for more drama. "Indeed you can't be walking about looking like you've been shot. Oh my, what would your fans say?!" He says, dramatically putting the back of his hand to his forehead.
Claire snorts at Conner's antics, shaking her head, and reaches for the girl’s locker room door. " I don't have fans, you’re being ridiculous." One of Conner's teammates, Jamie, slips up to Conner and grabs his shoulder as Conner pushes himself off the wall.
" Coach wants to see you. Oh, Cookies! Thanks, Claire!" He snatches the cookies and runs into the boy’s locker room, swinging the door almost wide open. "CLAIRE BAKED THE FOOTBALL TEAM COOKIES! SUCK IT, SOCCER TEAM!"
Conner laughs and looks down at Claire as the locker room door cuts off whatever else is said. Conner notices the pink on Claire's cheeks immediately and grins. "See, you got fans! Go ahead and change, I 'll let the coach know you'll be on the track." Conner ruffles her hair with his hand.
Claire rolls her eyes and pulls the girl’s locker room door open enough to get through. Conner could tell she was embarrassed because her cheeks were really starting to turn pink and she wouldn’t look up at him."You should go in too, you don't want to be marked late." She ducks into the girl’s locker room and disappears from sight.
Conner leans back against the wall looking at the door, thinking for a moment, then heads into the boy’s locker room. He slides past Brody and Curt to get to his locker, spinning in his combination he pulls out his PE clothes. Mike, a few feet away, swears as his soccer cleats land on his foot. “ You all right?” Conner asks, setting his change of clothes down and pulling his shirt up and over his head.
“Yeah. I don’t think my dreams of soccer are over. Man, that would be a lame end.” He picks up his cleats and moves them to the bottom of his locker. “Hey are those cookies really just for your team?” He asks eyeing the cookies, Jamie hears him and comically holds them to his chest.
Conner laughs and quickly changes into his gym clothes. “Sorry man. But if you are fast enough you can try to buy some at the game tonight.” Conner sits down as Mike groans and pulls on his shoes. Conner ties his shoes and quickly leaves to go find the coach. The doors to the inside gyms had a note posted that the class was going to be on the soccer field today. So Conner turns and starts jogging to the field.
On his way out the door to the school fields, Conner accidentally knocks into another student. All of his stuff flies out of his hands and scatters across the ground in a mess of markers, paper, and other art stuff. “Sorry I didn’t mean to run into you,” Conner says immediately dropping down to pick up the kid’s things.
“Thanks.” An ink-covered hand quickly pulks up multi colores pens and a sketchbook, as Conner got the markers and pencils. Conner wraps a stray rubber band around the markers and pencils and hands them over. Remi takes them and tucks them back into the crook of his arm as they stand up.
“Sorry Remi, I didn’t think anyone was going to be coming in. I was rushing too much.” Conner apologizes again as Remi dusts off another sketchbook. He smirks a dimple showing on his cheek. “It’s FIne Conner. There was no way you could have known someone would be right at the door.”
Conner sighs and tugs his ponytail a bit tighter. “So what are you doing over here anyway? Isn’ the art room on the other side of the school?” Remi gives him a noncommital shrug and moves to the side.
“Well. Um yeah, I got to go. The class is starting and the coach said he wanted to talk to me. So see you at the game or the party.” Conner gives him a wave and starts to jog to the soccer field again. He can’t understand why he could never seem to actually talk to Remi, but right now he just needs to make it through class.
