A bit different from my usual uploads... But this is my little diary comic. And I think it's important to share these moments of vulnerability.
I got an email from my thesis advisor yesterday. Due to encouraging social distancing due to the Coronavirus pandemic, my school has essentially closed their doors. My friends have to move out. All classes are online. In all likelyhood, I'll have no graduation ceremony.
And I have no final screening day, where I get to show my film on the big screen for all my friends and professors I've loved over the past 4 years.
Our thesis films are an extension of us. They're who we are as filmmakers and as animators and a rare chance to put our all into a deeply personal project. We put blood, sweat and tears into these things. I know I have.
Having that final moment, that culmination of your time here, that last hurrah and that moment to thank your teachers and peers and say goodbye, ripped out from under you... It's really hard.
But in the words of my advisor, a man who I deeply respect and can't thank enough for helping me learn and grow during these last 4 years... Sometimes life reminds you that there are more important things that need your attention and love.
I'm sorry to hear your showing has been cancelled and I hope they'll find a way to still give you and your classmates some kinds of ceremony. If not, maybe you can try to organise something yourself once this is all over. Until then, stay safe, keep hydrated and continue what you love doing to lighten your mood!
Not quite an oxymoron.
A weird little diary comic by a weird little artist.
No schedule, no big plans, just little doodles about the day in the life of an animation student tryin' to get by!
