I woke up to an annoyingly repetitive alarm. I moved my arms frantically, trying to find the source of the annoying noise, but to no avail. I sighed (again) and opened my eyes. Reluctantly, I got up from the warm bed, me still wearing the clothes I wore yesterday, so I felt some discomfort. Wearing jeans to bed was probably one of the worst forms of torture you could inflict onto yourself.
I dragged myself out of bed, my head ringing from the persistent alarm that I still had no idea of where it was coming from. I shook my head, and followed the sound. Of course, it was my new roommate. Time to see if he was a jackass or not. I peered through a crack in the door to see a sleeping boy.
He had jet black hair -which was extremely messy- and was snoring awfully loudly as drool slipped out of his mouth rather unattractively. I cringed, as the alarm got louder, so I pushed open the door and quickly stopped the alarm. I cheered quietly on the inside, careful not to wake the boy up. Until I realized I had pressed the snooze button instead. I groaned internally, and sighed. I really should have a sigh jar for the amount of times I'd been sighing recently.
I shook my head and turned to leave the room, until I heard a deep, husky voice that sent shivers down my spine,
"Now, what do you think you're doing in my room?"
I froze, a blush creeping up my cheeks, as I cringed from my foolishness. How could I have allowed myself to get caught? I turned around awkwardly and gave him a small wave. How do I explain that I touched his phone and invaded his private space?
Just then, the snooze alarm started, the annoying alarm music blasting from his phone again. I covered my ears, feeling a sharp pain shoot through them. Seriously, that alarm had to be changed. He quickly switched off the alarm and turned to face me again.
"So are you just gonna stand there, or will you answer my question?" he crossed his arms across his broad chest, his stormy grey eyes examining me carefully.
"Uh.. well you see...You're alarm woke me up and it was really annoying and it hurt my ears, I have really sensitive ears and I'm sorry I snuck into your room, I just had to turn it off, and-"
He interrupted my rambling fest and said, "Yo, dude it's fine.. chill!" He chuckled. "I'm Zane, you?"
"Jaxon, but you can call me Jax," I answered quietly.
He nodded, and I took this as a time to leave his room since our conversation had ended. Once I had entered my room, I checked the time on my phone. 7:26. 'Classes start in about an hour and we have an assembly welcoming us to the school at 8:00,' I thought to myself.
I trudged into the bathroom to get ready for the day. I brushed my teeth, took a brisk 10 minute shower and got into my uniform. I pulled on my black trousers, and a white button up long-sleeved shirt. After that, I tied my tie- which I had a bit of difficulty with, but I managed. I tugged my grey and red jumper over my head, adjusting it to look just right. To finish off the look, I pulled on the grey blazer, and looked at my reflection in the bathroom mirror.
My. Hair. Was. An. Absolute. MESS!
I sighed and bent down over the sink, looking into my dark brown eyes in my reflection. I need to fix this, STAT! I spent an eternity in front of that mirror trying to get my hair looking decent at least. After I had finished messing with my hair- my arms aching like hell, I took one last look at my appearance before checking the time on the watch that was on my left wrist. 7:56. I needed to hurry up to the assembly hall, so I would be there on time. Grabbing my timetable, notebooks, stationery and stuffing them into my backpack, I rushed off to the school hall.
After getting lost once or twice (maybe thrice), I finally arrived at the hall. Although I was 5 minutes late, students were still filing in, so I was alright. I sighed in relief and made my way onto the seating in the hall as we watched the Principal and a few other staff, arranging the last of the students.
"Good Morning, everyone and welcome to Novella Enterprises, or more commonly known as Novella High," the Principal gave everyone a smile and we chatted and giggled amongst ourselves.
He waited for us to settle down before he carried on, "We are looking forward to teaching our new students, and testing their strengths and weaknesses." His eyes scanned over all of us.
"This year will not be easy, there will be trials and you may feel like you want to quit. Some of you will, some of you won't, simple. It isn't just a test for how strong or weak your blips are, or how good you are at combat, it is a test of how hard you will try to get to the top." He grinned.
"I'm excited to see all of you guys' blips, powers and strengths, I have a feeling this is going to be a really good year! To the Class of 2020!"
"To the Class of 2020!" we all repeated excitedly. I looked in the audience for Stelar as everyone chatted amongst themselves, and I saw her at the back of the seating. I smiled, looking for Zane as well. I couldn't find him so I turned back around, waiting for the principal to carry on his speech.
"Well, I won't keep you guys waiting," he said this while rubbing his hands together. "Off you go guys! Have fun! But not too much fun because I can and will suspend you. Hope to see you again, freshmen."
As he walked off the stage, everyone was left in very high spirits after the inspirational speech. I walked over to Stelar, who was talking to a red-headed girl with pale green eyes and rosy cheeks. I saw the brunette (Stelar) give the red-head a grin, before making eye-contact with me and waving the red-head goodbye.
"Bye, Danielle!" was the only part I heard of the conversation.
I gave Stelar a wide smile and a wave as she approached me.
"What's up, Jax?"
"The ceiling duh?" I joked. She elbowed me in the rib, but I deserved it. I chucked.
"That's such an old joke, stopppp!" she exclaimed. I laughed at her dramatic-ness and shook my head.
"You are really pulling off the uniform, Stelar!"
She blushed and waved her hand at me. "Oh stop it, you're embarrassing me!" she giggled. "You don't look bad in the uniform either, it really suits your lean figure."
I shoved her playfully, knowing fully well she was making fun of my skinny self. I rolled my eyes jokingly.
"Oh come off it, anyways what time is it, Stelar? We have to go to class soon!" I checked my watch. It was 8:26am. Perfect, I fished out my timetable from my black backpack and checked for my first period lesson. History. Yes! my favourite subject first! I looked over at Stelar's schedule.
We didn't have History together, but we did have 3rd and 6th period together. Studying the animal language and Study of mythical animals. Those two lessons weren't that bad, I guess..
"Well, I have Chemistry and Potions next so I'll see you at break, right?" Stelar confirmed. I nodded, smiling before making my way to History, my first lesson of high school and the school I've been dreaming of for all of my life.
