My hand cramped for the 5th time that lesson, as I scribbled down the notes from the teacher's history lecture. I fought the urge to yawn and leaned back into the creaky chair. I cracked my knuckles and looked around the classroom. Zane and Stelar weren't here so it felt a bit awkward not knowing anybody. I sighed and tried not to space out. This was my first lesson of school, and I could not start failing now. I needed to be as successful as my brother Wyatt, so that I would finally impress my parents.
"Jaxon, could you please answer this question?" my teacher, Miss Kasari asked.
Great, now I had to talk -something which I had been hoping to not have to do. I nodded reluctantly.
"What year did Futaris defeat humans in the Danarian War? And what did this lead to?"
I sank further into my seat from relief. At least I've studied well enough to be able to handle these situations.
"The defeat of humans in the Danarian war happened 87 years ago in 3012, which lead to the adaptation of humans, causing them to be able to do magic. We call this magic a blip, and usually, in a family's bloodline, their magic shares similar personalities." I rambled. "Some people believe the reason humans adapted was because of the way we had to rapidly change our living habits because of the Futaris lifestyle. Their food, technologies and waste had chemicals that altered our DNA and caused us to mutate and gain these magical abilities. Others just think that...."
I began to feel the stares of my classmates burning right through me as I answered the question.
I blushed realising I said a bit too much...
The teacher looked at me, astounded and amazed. I'd really gone and done it now! Couldn't I have shut my damn mouth where appropriate?
"Never in my 15 years of teaching have I ever seen such knowledge in such a young student! You have great potential! I'd actually like to speak to you after class," she smiled warmly at me, her curly brown hair framing her slim face, her blue-green eyes looking effortlessly young.
I nodded and looked down at my desk, trying to avoid eye contact with everyone that was staring at me. I shifted in my seat as some people started to pay attention to the teacher again, while others whispered to their friends about what had just taken place. The tips of my ears grew even hotter, I had never felt more uncomfortable in my life.
I tried to ignore all the looks and stares and tried to focus on the lesson again.

I got up from my seat, at walked over to Miss Kasari's desk where she was picking up a pile of sheets.
"Ah! Jaxon, I was just about go call you over here."
I smiled at her, not really wanting to speak.
"Your contribution in today's lesson was very impressive! I just wanted to ask if you want to be moved up in class? I've checked some of your records in school, and you seem to have always done better than your peers, so I believe this would be a great opportunity for you!" She said.
My heart leaped at her words. Was she actually serious?! I never expected this! Would I finally be on the path of impressing my mom?
"Yeah, that would be really amazing!" I smiled like an idiot. I couldn't believe it!

I stretched as I watched the clock on the wall hit 3:04 PM. I was waiting for the lesson to end so I could go to my dorm and sleep. Today had been pretty hectic for my first day, but I'd enjoyed it. My eyes struggled to stay open, as my maths teacher, Mr Haines, brought the lesson to a close.
The bell indicating that lessons where over finally played its sweet sounds as students began to pack up and leave. I dropped my notebook and pen into my backpack and stood up from my chair, and left the classroom.
At my dorm room, I dropped my bag by the kitchen island and grabbed a drink from the fridge before going into my room. I sank into my spinning chair and switched on my laptop.
After 3 hours of scrolling through random stuff on my laptop, I shut it it off and got up, feeling a bit hungry. I knocked onto the door of Zane's room before walking in.
"Hey, you hungry or anything?" I asked.
Zane was on his bed, book in hand, reading quietly. He looked up at me with his stormy grey eyes and smiled sweetly. I gulped, trying not to embarrass myself like I did this morning.
"Uh, yeah sure. Can you cook?"
I laughed. "Not, Jordan Damsley standard, but I can cook decently, so what do you want?"
"I'm craving noodles, is that okay?"
"Yeah, sure."
And with that, I left to the kitchen to whip up my famous ramen noodles.
