Vladek ran trying so hard to get away from the village the fastest his legs and wounds could allow him through the forest. He could still feel the smoke of the fire pears his lungs, making challenging the simple act to breathe.
“It is so hot,” He thought. “And loud… why is it so loud?”
The screams felt like it were right behind him when the truth was that he left them far behind a long time ago. He even could still smell the blood dripping off the bodies, making his mind go numb. He stumbled and fell solid hard in the ground, a sound of pain emerged from his lips. Lucifer growled worried.
Vladek stroked his fur trying to calm him a little bit. The giant wolf licked his hand in response.
“Where do we go now, buddy?” Vladek whispered. Lucifer smelled the air and started running. He quickly stood up and followed the wolf.
His sense of time went abnormally cause of his current state, so he could not tell how much time they ran, but he could tell that it was already almost sunrise, not that it mattered to him. Contrary to what the myths told, the sun doesn't affect him at the minimum. He had to have something in an advantage.
When he started to feel like they had been running forever, in the middle of the forest, a mountain raised, in which was a huge mansion in the very top, lighted by the fade light of the full moon.
“Is there?” He asked. Lucifer made a mumbling noise of affirmation. “Are you sure is it safe?” The wolf looked him offended like he dared to ask. “Okay, there we go.” He said agreeing, hoping for protection and peacefulness, hoping that he and Lucifer be isolated from everyone else.
And most important, they will be confined from the war.
