A male nurse walked in the room, carrying two plastic trays with food. He took the rolly table from behind the door, and, after placing the two plates on it, moved it over to the bed. Green sat up straight and stared at the food. On his tray were laid a small ceramic bowl of tomato soup, a slightly bigger plate of mashed potatoes, carrots, peas and chicken, accompanied by a juice box of, presumably, apple juice, and a box of pudding.
Black's tray also had tomato soup and pudding, but no chicken or vegetables, his apple juice switched with grape juice. There were also two metallic straws next to his spoons, which made Green a bit curious.
The man turned his attention back to his meal, and sighed. He was hungry, but he didn't want to eat. He felt a bit nauseous, and while the food looked very appetizing, something just didn't feel okay.
The nurse gently took Green's arm. "I was told you didn't need this anymore, is that right?" He asked. Green nodded, and the nurse, with a swift move of his arm, removed his catheter, making Green wince a bit with the pinch of the object sliding out of his arm, sealing the hole with a plaster over a ball of cotton. He then placed a box with two white pills inside of it, along with a patch and bandaids. "Here. This'll help with the pain." The nurse said, before walking out the room and closing the door behind him.
A few seconds were passed in silence, until Black grabbed his straw, and poked the soup with it. "Hmmm, it looks a bit hot…" he said, then turned to Green.
"Hey, is this soup hot?" He asked him. "Try to touch it."
Green extended an arm, and dipped a finger in the red liquid. It was lukewarm, a bit colder than how soup was usually. Probably to not hurt Black's mouth.
"It's lukewarm, you can drink it."
Bringing his straw to his mouth, Black slurped some of the liquid, and moaned happily. "Oh, fuck yeah that's really good!" He exclaimed, before slurping in more of it greedily.
Green chuckled softly, and ate his soup too. Immediately, the intense flavor of savory chicken, tomatoes, carrots and turnip hit his tongue, mixed with a very mild spiciness that tickled his tastebuds. Black was right. This tasted amazing!
"Oh, yeah, my patch." Said Black suddenly. He turned at the chair, where he had put it, and made a motion to move and get it. Green extended a hand and stopped him. "No it's alright, I'll do it for you."
The man stood up, and hopped over to the chair. As he did, a soft green glow, coming from the bouquet, caught his attention. He turned to the flowers, picked them up, and hopped back to the bed. Handing Black his patch, he then quickly turned his attention to the flowers. Something inside seemed to be glowing very faintly. And, also…
"Hey, you know, that's a bit weird. These flowers have been there for days, yet they're still beautiful. Shouldn't they be at least a bit withered by now?" Said Black, unwrapping his patch as he stared at the flowers.
There was a small, green rock at the bottom of the bouquet, entangled in the frail roots of the plants around it. And it was glowing, faintly, a shivery trembling light like one from a candle.
And then Green touched it.
Immediately, the flowers grew bigger, brighter, petals and leaves flying all around the room. Green felt a warm, tingly feeling rush through his finger and across his entire body, like energy spreading in his veins. He gasped and blinked, confused. And Black was now staring at the flowers, jaw dropped on the floor in awe.
"W-what the fuck just happened??"
Green stared blankly at his hand, shocked. That was a good question.
"I-I don't know! There was a stone in the bouquet, I tried to grab it and then it just… did that!"
He turned it around in his fingers, examining it. It wasn't glowing anymore.
"Lemme see." Black stretched out his arm and grabbed Green's wrist, in an attempt to bring the stone closer, but as he did, he gasped, immediately letting go in a manner like someone who had just touched a hot stove, eyes rolling back as a faint green glow surrounded him. He closed his eyes, head hanging low as he brought his hand to his head, groaning.
"W-what the fuck…" He mumbled, confused, breathing in slowly through his nose.
"B-Black, are you alright? What happened??"
He stayed silent, eyes going left and right as his breathing picked up the pace, the young man becoming visibly more agitated.
"Wha- G-Green, Green?" His eyes sparkled for a second, like a tint of hope was revigorating him.
"What???"
"My burns aren't hurting anymore, Green."
"Well you just took your patch, it's normal that-"
"Green, I didn't take my patch yet."
He showed the patch, still in it's opened wrapping, laying cozy in his bandaged hand.
Green's eyes widened. Oh.
"As soon as I touched you, I felt like I was super high for a second, and then the pain just… stopped!" He smiled faintly, and laughed. "I feel fine!"
He kept laughing as he started poking himself around, even taking Green's leftover soup and eating it eagerly. "IT DOESN'T HURT ANYMORE, GREEN!!"
Tears of happiness and relief were bordering on his eyes as he took another bite and he swallowed, smiling brightly as he got up his chair and did a few squats and jumping jacks.
Green smiled softly and chuckled. "Well, on the downside, I'm still in pain.."
Black stopped moving, and looked at Green. "Oh." He simply said, walking back to the bed and sitting on it. He really looked like healthy now.
"So how does that work, exactly? You can heal me from severe burns, a broken leg and pierced intestine, but you can't heal yourself from…" he looked down at Green's bandaged leg. "A twisted ankle?"
Green huffed and sighed. "Well, I'm not sure. Maybe it only works on other people.."
They both went silent, and Green's eyes widened. Both guys looked at each other, and Black chuckled "You thinking what I'm thinking?". Green smiled "We could try it on Yellow!!" He said with excitement. Black nodded, and hopped back in his chair.
"His room is probably empty, since it's dinner time, so we can try going now."
Green nodded, and got up, taking the flowers with him. His leg was still not functional, sadly, he'd have no choice but to hop on one leg the entire time.
They both got out the room as sneakily as they could. Black especially seemed to be good at staying out of the radar, and for someone in a wheelchair, he was very agile.
They quickly arrived in front of the room, and Black opened the door.
They were greeted by a closed curtain, a faint silhouette barely showing behind the baby blue of the fabric. They could hear machine beep, but no human sounds. Though as Black closed the door and pulled the curtains, a soft groan came from the hospital bed.
Green couldn't help but gasp at the sight.
While he didn't know Black much before the incident, he knew Yellow a lot. And seeing him like this? It was devastating.
His skin was pale and cheeks hollow, dark circles under his eyes and longer untamed golden hair accentuating his small, frail stature. He looked like he lost some weight, and, on top of his blue hospital gown, bloody bandages and machines plugged into his arms, he just… he wasn't himself anymore.
Black was the first to get closer to their classmate, getting up from his wheelchair and walking up to the bed. Yellow's eyes slowly opened, and he looked at Black. Black sighed.
"Hey, Yellow… it's me, Black."
Yellow only grunted in response. Black looked at Green. "Do you think he can hear me?" He asked. Green shrugged. "I don't know… maybe, I'd say not fully."
He hopped over to the bed and bent towards Yellow. He brought a hand to the mattress, but waited a bit before trying to touch him.
His heart felt heavy. He hated what he was seeing right now, and yet, he didn't know what would happen if he touched him. What if it didn't work? He would take that chance, but at the same time…
It was Yellow's arm moving that startled Green, who quickly retracted his hand. "S-sorry, I got caught by surprise, sorry…" he looked back at Yellow, about to say something, but he stopped, seeing the man's left eye, visible through his bandages.
Green's heart sank to his stomach. He caused this. He was the reason Yellow got hurt. "Oh, Yellow… I'm so, so sorry… I hope this works." he brought a hand to his friend's head, and touched his forehead, briefly leaning in to kiss it.
A green aura spread around Yellow's body, and he grunted in confusion, as the wires in his arms all popped off, the holes sealing and he slowly gained some color to his face. Quickly, he removed the bandages on his mouth, and chuckled. "U-uhm, was that supposed to happen??" He asked, both very confused and giddy. "Am I dreaming right now?"
Currently realizing the risk they were taking, knowing that without a pulse to monitor, the nurses would be coming back soon, Green gasped, and grabbed Yellow's shoulder, and pulled him up on the bed. "You can ask all the questions you want later. Now we have to leave!"
He turned to Black, and the man gasped. "Oh fuck! The nurses!"
Yellow stood up, a bit disoriented, but quickly gained his balance. Green looked back at his friend. "Think you can carry me?"
Yellow smirked, grabbing Green in his arms and lifting him up. "Can chickens fly?"
Black frowned, confused by that statement, and looked at Green, who shrugged and smiled, a bit amused. "Alright, well, let's run away from the hospital as soon as we can…"
They all went for the door, and as soon as Black opened it-
"NOW, GO!"
They all ran.
They could hear people screaming, pleading for them to come back. They could hear someone call security. They could hear a multitude of footsteps behind them, all people wanting them to get back there.
But they kept running.
And eventually… they got out.
