Paranoia

Balloons (Part Two)

Balloons (Part Two)

Apr 10, 2020

My friends and I created a club for basically adventure. One thing we do is create events. An example is a haunted high school tour. This event in ninth grade was where my worst occurrence of one of my worst nightmares was.

I enter the school with the hallways very dark. The president, Olivia, texted us saying to bring a flashlight. I used my phone as a flashlight. As I was turning it on, I saw our banner designer, Emma. She reminded me to turn on my flashlight. On my way to the room of Mrs. Soto, a math teacher, I seen Chloe. She looked almost as if she was in a rush so I asked, "Where are you going?"

Her response made my heart pounding. "I'm getting tape for the balloons."

"Wait, what?" Chloe told me that they were gonna be in the hallways. I knew there was gonna be balloons but no one told me that they were gonna be basically everywhere. This made me glad I'm not a tour guide.

I see a bit of light from Mrs. Soto's classroom where the makeup room is gonna be. In that light there was one balloon. I told myself that it's just one balloon but I might've spoke too soon. When I was about to enter, there was a lot of balloons in there. One of our tour guides, Mitch, came to me and asked, "Are you okay?"

Like I said in the first part, I keep it a secret. "Umm... Yeah, I'm fine," I said as I walked backwards.

Then next thing you know, something pops at my foot. I screamed and ran telling anyone I pass to run. A few seconds later I heard another one. With this fear it's as if I'm in a slasher clown movie. Anyway, I felt like I had to hide so I slam myself against a wall around the corner. After I caught my breath. I slid down the wall and hugged my legs crying. About a minute later, I hear someone say, "Andrew?"

 As a freaking fool, I said, "H-hello?"

I immediately cup my mouth to be quiet. I saw a light coming toward my direction. The light turns making me freak out. The person says, "Andy! Andy, it's okay. It's Mia."

Mia is my girlfriend and Mitch's sister.

I wipe an eye saying, "Sc-scared the hell out of me."

"What are you doing here? Are you okay?"

 "Yeah. J-just got a l-little scared."

"'A little scared?' Andy, you ran after a balloon popped. And right now you're crying and shaking. That's way more than a little scared. What's wrong?"

I trust Mia and Mitch to tell them. I don't like saying it but I had to let it out. Mia comforted me because letting out was hard. I felt better though. Mia then says that I needed my costume and makeup done. "Wait. Do we have to go to the balloon room?"

"Yes. But don't worry. We'll get your costume first."

She holds out her hand. I hesitate but grab it. As we're walking to my room for the haunted tour, I told Mia that the only one that knows is her and Noah. We have a quote that whatever is in the club stays in the club. My costume was a big, black cloak. We head back to Mrs. Soto's classroom. I have a gulp as we entered. Mia asked Emma if she could do my makeup. I just wanted it done and over with. A few seconds later, Mia screams. I turn and see Noah as a clown. Emma tells me, "Careful, Andrew. I almost messed up."

Then Noah says, "I'm gonna splatter some blood in three -"

 "Noah!" I whimpered.

 "Two..."

"Andrew, are you alright?" Emma asked.

 "One!" Noah yells.

I immediately jump and cried, "No! Please don't do this! You know I'm scared of balloons!"

"So you admit it?" Noah smirked.

"Yes, please."

Noah shrugs and pops the balloon. I cover my ears and scream. He grabs my shoulder and said, "Hey, Andy. It's okay. There was no blood in the balloon. I was just joking."

I was in full relief but still shook. Mia holds me and says, "Are you okay?"

 "I'll b-be f-fine," I stuttered.

"Don't worry," Mitch said. "We can keep a secret." He grabs some makeup. "Come with me."

 "Wh-why?"

"I just want to talk and so that we get your makeup done. Just take a deep breath, okay?"

I take a deep breath and follow Mitch into the bathroom. He was kinda confused but asked, "You're scared of balloons, Andrew?"

"Yes," I said. "The way they look, the sound of anything rubbing it. Many ways to pop it. "

I started to breath heavy again. Mitch holds onto me saying, "Hey. Calm down. You're gonna be okay. We're planning to put balloons up after we have dinner, okay?"

I wipe my tears and nod. Noah comes and apologizes. Noah takes stuff a bit far but he always tries to make up to it.
