Grad School Motivation Level - Best of Graphs!

This is also in the top 5 most popular comics I ever made, and in fact it's the basis of my lecture which I've delivered over 300 times. It depicts in one line the ups and down of Grad School.
I'm not sure why I started doing graphs as comics (this was back in 1999, years before it was a common meme). Did I see it done somewhere? I can't remember. I do remember being inspired by Doonesbury Sunday comics, which often strayed from the traditional comic panel format and did parodies of ads or informational pamphlets.
I really have to thank my labmates at the time for this one. There's no way a second year grad student me could have drawn this on my own. I think it was seeing all of them at different stages that inspired the comic. They often helped me come up with jokes and even inspired many of the characters (more on that later). Thanks guys!
