"Ouch! You're hurting me." Eron tried to get out of Reason's grip.
"Tell me what you know of that song." Reason gripped her tighter as anger coursed through his veins.
"I don't know what you mean, let go of me." Eron wasn't hearing the words that were coming out of his mouth. She was panicking form what was going on and not being able to see what happening. She kept pushing him away to get out of his grasp.
"Stop!" His voice was loud and final bringing her thrashing to a halt. "Tell me what you know."
"I don't know anything." Eron grabbed on to his forearms trying to remove his hands.
"Please, try hard to think." Reason rested his head on her shoulder.
She could hear the peril in his voice and stopped resisting him. She rose her hand up to his head and felt around his face. Her fingertips felt moist upon contact with his cheek.
"It can be dangerous for those who have heard that tune." Reason backed away from Eron turning from her. Even though she couldn't see he still felt the need to hide his watering eyes.
"No more dangerous than I'm used to, being here and all." Eron touched her own swollen face.
"Sorry, I never meant for you to get hurt." Reason looked over his shoulder watching her feel around for something.
"Why did you bring me aboard, Reason?" Eron found the desk and made her way to the chair to sit down.
"You might not believe me, but we have known each other for a long time now. Your father was once my captain when we were a part of the fleet." Making his way to the bed he sat on the edge facing Eron. He dropped his head in his hands waiting for Eron to say something before he continued.
"Great story." She felt annoyed with him and his games. He never gave anything up when he talked.
"You don't understand." Reason stood back up pacing the floor.
"I can't understand something you don't say. That's logic, you're an idiot." She half whispered the last part but still loud enough for him to hear.
"I am an idiot, I know. If I weren’t, we wouldn't be in this mess." Sitting back down his leg was resting slightly on a nerve that made his leg shake uncontrollably.
"I won't argue that, but why don't you finish that little story of yours, so I know what I'm doing." She sat there in silence for a few minutes before she could hear Reason let out a huge defeating sigh.
"Your father left us to die, but things no matter how I look at it, they don't add up. The only way it makes sense is if he led us there to die." He knew Eron was struggling with what he was saying despite her lack of facial expressions from the swelling.
"He wouldn't do that to his men." Eron said not moving an inch.
"No, he wouldn't. That's what doesn't make sense. The music box was the last item we acquired. That was when things started to get strange." He searched for the right words for the next part before Eron scoffed at him.
"You think a music box changed everyone and led to a slaughter?" She laughed dryly at him but felt a chill run down her spine as she remembered her dream.
"Laugh all you want; I did at first too. It wasn't until he killed my mother for her necklace saying it was the key to everything." Reason looked at her and knew she would debate with him, so he quickly moved towards her. "I watched him as he slit her throat while he raped her in front of everyone."
"No, he would never do that. He loved my mother. He was a good man!" Eron stood up both leaning over the table challenging each other with their faces only a foot apart.
"That's why I said the music box. Or do you just not listen when people talk to you. There's something wrong with it. I looked into the history and death surrounds it. So, I ask you again where have you heard that song?" The grinding of his teeth filled the silent room.
"I don't know. I just dreamt it while I was asleep." Eron couldn't see Reason's face but could tell by his voice he actually believed what he was saying. "Crazy bastard."
"If I'm crazy then your father is a cold blood murderer." Reason walked around the desk and stood next to Eron. He wanted her to understand the dangers she got herself into.
"Says who? You? The word of a murdering pirate?" She turned to face him. "Somehow I can't see how you would be any different."
"I didn't know what you would be like. For all I knew you were just like him and only appear to be good and the next second killing everyone else." He took a step back from her and lowered his head. "I'll admit my anger got the best of me, I watched as your father hurt my mother. Killing her was the nicest thing he could have done for her, after what they did. I shouldn't have attacked your ship, but I needed you."
"So that excuses your actions?" Her fists tightened at her side.
"No, but it's all I knew to do." He reached his hand out to her face to move the strand of hair away but pulled back within an inch of her face.
"You said he took something from him, and I would have it, what was it he took?" Her face tilted away from him as if to brace herself for the answer.
"My sister." His voice boomed with authority as he mentioned his sister. "He took her when she was five years old. When I heard he finally became a father I knew you would be my key to find her and get her back, but the bastard died, so that leaves you."
"Hold on this isn't adding up. He took your sister when she was five, but he killed your mother recently, and then he died? How the fuck would I know? I haven't been home in ages." Eron was trying to piece all the information together but it wasn't fitting together.
"No, 23 years ago he took her from my family. He took her as payment from the debt my father owed. I joined his fleet after my father had passed to finish paying it off, and to find her whereabouts, but he sent me to my death. I had hunted him down last year since he thought me dead and I found out he was dead, but that he had a son he left all his possessions to." Reason looked at her. "Turns out he is a she."
"Alright, but when did this music murdering shit happen?" Eron still not convinced with this irrational story, but glad he didn't know of her brother.
"Listen girl. When I was in the fleet with him. We found a ship that had run aground, among the dead crew laid a box covered in blood. He took the box and went crazy. When we docked a few months later I went to visit family he followed with a few others. They took turns on my mother before killing her. When I confronted them and got into a fight with him, he sent us into battle and lead us to die." Reason went silent watching Eron for clues.
"What's her name?" She felt a sickening feeling when Reason spoke about her dad, but not entirely believing. She never got along with her father, but he loved her mother dearly and was a controlling man, but not a murderer.
"Eleanor." Reason whispered his sister's name. He knew the chances of her being alive where slim, but he wanted to find her to at least bury her next to their mom.
"Doesn't sound familiar. I can't help you." She listened to the silence. "I'm not her if that's what you are thinking."
"I had thought that you could have been at one point, but when I saw how much you look like your mom. I knew you were not her." Reason also wouldn't have the feelings he had for her had she been. "But your father would brag about naming you after her."
"What?" The confusion kept piling up on her.
"Elaron, your birth name is Elaron." Reason raked a hand through his hair. "You didn't know?"
"No, my mom said she would never call me by anything other than Eron. Her and I never got along, and I do not look like her." Nothing pissed her off more than when people told her she looked like that horrible woman. She never saw a likeness between them if anything she looked like her dad.
"Whatever, you still look like your parents, but I can see a lot of your father in your looks too. He was very popular with the women ashore." Reason didn't like the direction the conversation was going. "Anyways, you can't be my sister. I wouldn't feel..." He stopped mid-sentence not wanting to say anymore.
"I wouldn't want to be your sister either. So, how can I get away from you then. What do I need to do for you to leave me alone?" She crossed her arms over her chest.
"Right. I almost forgot how much you hate me. It had been a while since you were vulgar towards me." His chest felt the pressure from her words.
"Filthy piece of shit." Eron's mouth slightly turned up in a poor smile. "Better?"
Reason chuckled at her attempt to rectify her emotions. "Yeah better." His face turned back down in sadness as he pretended to feel amused. "I want to look through the things your father left you. Papers that might lead me to her."
"They are with that bitch you think I look so much like." Eron waved her hand back brushing it off.
"Alright we will head that way after we are done resupplying." Reason took her words as an invitation.
"Oh no! I'm not going back. You can get them yourself." True fear came over her thinking about her mother. "She will kill me if I step foot back in her home."
"But it is your home." He gave her a puzzled look.
"My life is more important than a home." Eron walked away from the desk brushing past Reason to go lay down.
"Alright we will have to come up with a plan." He followed her and helped her into bed.
"Whatever." She turned away from him. She had intended to leave once they reach land nothing he could say or do would make her stick around.
Reason watched over her until she fell asleep before he slowly climbed into bed next to her. He didn't feel any sexual urges but an overwhelming need to keep her close to him. He snaked his arm around her and tucked her backside into his chest. Under normal circumstances he would be fighting his internal thoughts, but her face made him ache with the need for her to feel safe with him.
Reason leaned into her ear and lightly nipped at her earlobe. "I'm sorry." He lightly squeezed her and feel asleep as he held her close to him.
