“Well that was fun.” I laugh as She pulls into my neighborhood.

Everyone else had already been dropped off so now it was just me and the girl for the last few minutes. “Yeah your friends are pretty wild.” She chuckled as we drove down the hill and into my cul de sac.

“Well I actually just met them all today.”

“Really?”She chuckled “ I find that hard to believe. I swear you guys act like you’ve known each other for years.”

“Well Alvin and Alexis have known each other that long, and So have Tariq, Darold, and Satoya… I guess the only odd one out is me .” We both share a laugh as she stops in front of my house.

“I know how you feel I’m usually the odd one out in groups, and being in the special ed class doesn't help.”

“Wait, you're in special ed? So are we why don't you just hang with us?”

She pondered it for a moment before turning to me with a smile. “Ok sure let me see your phone.”

She added her contacts before handing my phone back to me and once I read the contact name I couldn't help but laugh.

“Why did you name yourself Mariah Carey?” “Oh stop my last name is Monroe but everyone always jokes about me being related to Mariah Carey.”

“So is Mariah Carey your sister?”

“Stop.”

“Can you get me tickets to her next concert.”

“Jaden-”

“I'm calling you Mariah carey from now on.”

“I will push you out of the car.”Mariah threatened playfully. “The car isn't even moving so ha!”

I get out of the car and start walking up the stairs as she pulls out of my driveway.

“See you at school new kid!”

“Bye Mariah Carey!”

“Well it sounds like you had an eventful.” My mom said with a laugh after I explained how I earned detention in detail and the crazy new friends I had made today.

“The girl who stabbed someone with a chicken sounds funny.” Madison laughed as she sat down at the dinner table with a bow of spaghetti.

“Yeah she is.” I say with a mouthful. “ They all seem really cool.”

“Yes they do…. Just remember not to get too attached.” My mom said as she sat down at the table with us causing me to roll my eyes.

“My come on I had a good day my powers did not cause any problems-”

“But they will eventually because they always do.”

While I can admit she wasn't wrong, the fact that we were having this conversation now was really starting to piss me off.

“We've had to move way too many times Jaden. I would appreciate it if we didn't have to do it again-”

“You know it's hard to control-”

“Then learn to control it.”

“How when there's no one to teach me!?”

“Do not raise your voice at me!”

“Then start making sense!”

“How can i when all you have are excuses!?”

“That's easy for you to say!” I yelled slamming my hands on the table “ Neither of you know what it's like, and neither of you even try to help me understand it!”

I could feel the ground shake beneath  my feet in my anger but in the moment I was too angry to care.

“You think I don't know this is hard on you two? That I don't hate having to make us move? I’m so sorry that it has caused you guys so much grief, but how the hell do you think I feel!? I’m alone in all of this! You two dont have powers and honestly I fucking envy you! Cause you get to sit on your ass and judge me for not having it together as if you’d do any better in my position!”

With that I walked away from the table and went upstairs to the room unable to look at either of them.

I Stayed in my room for the rest of the night, too upset to talk to anybody. I could feel the tears in my eyes but they quickly evaporated into steam before they fell from my face.

Honestly I don't think either of them realize just how alone i feel when I’m around them. My sister doesn't hide her disdain for my powers always wrecking everything,but at least she tries to understand me. My mom on the other hand never seizes to make me feel like complete and utter crap.

I planned on hitting the hay early until I heard a knock on the door, and before I could tell them to go away my sister walked in and jumped on the bed next to me.

“Hey bruh bruh.” She smiled using her nickname for me since she was a baby. “ Are you ok?”

“No I’m not ok.. Not yet anyway but thanks for checking up on me.” I smile while pulling her into a hug. “ It's not like I’m mad at you sis.. I just wish you guys would cut me some slack is all.”

“I know and I get it- I mean it's not like your powers came with a manual.”

We both shared a laugh before leaning back on my bed and looking up at the ceiling. “Besides.. Even though we've had to move a lot your powers are kinda cool.” “Aww thank you sis and even though I asked mom for a brother you're pretty cool too.”

“Hey!”

She poked me in my side with a laugh until  my phone vibrating caught my attention.

“I still don't understand how someone as lame as you already made friends.” My sister smirked as I picked up my phone to see a text from Alvin.

‘Hey man! I’m really  glad I met you today. Listen, Satoya and Alexis just found out about a senior party being thrown a few blocks away from school. You should come, it won't be as fun without you there.’

His text brought a smile on my face since I was glad he actually wanted to hang out with me.

“Ooh he invited you to a party.” My siste cooed as she snacthed my phone out of my hand. “ This guy must really like you.”

“Madison give me my phone!”

“Hold on I’m texting..”

“Don't talk to him!”

“Too late I already sent it.”

I quickly grabbed the phone to see my sister had replied back saying I’d be there with a thumbs up emoji.

“Madison what have you done?”

“Um.. helped my brother get a boyfriend. What else?” She smiled proudly while my glare grew stronger.

“Ok one: we just met today and he is not my boyfriend, and two how am I supposed to sneak past the warden and to a party?”

My phone vibrated again from another text.

‘Good cause I’m at at your window jump down and i'll catch you’

“Welp looks like you have a way out.” My sister replied with a smirk as she headed for the door. “ And don't worry about mom, I'll take care of it.” With a wink she closed the door and I quickly locked it. Before opening my window.

“Hey Alvin.” I say staring down at him. I saw that he had changed his clothes as he was now wearing a grey hoodie and sweat[pants.

He looked up at me with a smile. “ Dude come on, the others are waiting down the street.”

After putting my shoes back on I looked back down to Alvin slightly nervous. “Now you're sure you’ll catch me? I’m not exactly light.”

“Don't worry i gotcha.”He extended his arms with a smile I found extremely reassuring.Closing my eyes I jumped out the window and landed in his arms with a thump. Aside from letting out a low grunt seemed to be able to handle my weight as he looked down at me.

“Told ya I had ya.” He said with a smile and I honestly hoped he couldn't see my blush from being nervous over nothing.

And with that we walked down the street to meet the others.
