"Samantha Yuri Green? We know you're in there and you know why we're here. Let us in peacefully or else we'll make a scene."
Present:
Sam hurried over to the door "One moment!". Smoothing out her hair and coveralls. Sam opened the door and was greeted by a tall, burly looking man. He had long, brown hair that was greased back into a hair tie but a smooth-shaven face and brown eyes that were set in a glare. With him was a petite woman with a blonde pixie cut and blue eyes that were almost smiling as big as she was, it seemed too strained. Like she was trying too hard.
"Hello, my name is Annie, and this is Don," the woman said, "May we come in?"
"Yeah, of course. Sorry." Sam mumbled and let them in, her palms breaking out in a cold sweat. While she felt she had nothing to fear. There was just something so unnerving about these two, like these were two people you did not want to be left alone, and yet here she was... alone.
Watchers
Watchers are some of the most ruthless guards of the tower, they never get involved unless it's some major threat. When that happens, they are sent in to investigate and clear the problem without any complications. This meant they had the freedom to do whatever they deem necessary to accomplish that. Everyone knew that when they were involved, you were in trouble.
Sam motioned them over to her table that had two chairs tucked in. They sat down and Sam opted for sitting on her cot waiting for the all too clear interrogation.
The women spoke first, "You know why we are here. Right?
Sam nodded and got a response from the man next.
"You've also been missing for 16 days. Are you alright?"
Surprised to hear concern from the 'totally-not-a-killer' Don, Sam tried to think before responding.
"Um, yeah. I have been unconscious for all of that time... I guess this illness really got the best of me."
Annie frowned and tilted her head, "You had been fighting it for about a month correct? How are you feeling now?" Sam flinched at the fact that they knew that about her. How did they... Later
"Yes, but I am feeling much better."
"Well, that's good. So, let's go over what happened to you shall we?"
Sam nodded and thought back to that day, recalling all that she could up to the point of waking up and handed over the letter to the man who outstretched his hand expectantly.
Annie spoke up after Sam handed over the letter to Don, "And, could you tell us in what building you woke up in?"
"Um not off the top of my head, but I could backtrack if given a map."
Annie gave Sam her phone which had a map of the Marketplace on it. Finding the stairs that led up, she was able to backtrack to the building that she had unknowingly stayed in for the last couple of weeks. Pointing to the building and giving it back Annie. She nodded a thanks.
Don spoke up next after reading the letter, "Did you ever see the man who watched over you or know what he means by 'deadly situation'." Sam shook her head. She had no idea what had happened on that floor, all she could remember was struggling to walk and passing out. Didn't hear or see anything.
Annie lost her smile and asked "Do you mind if we keep this? Were you the only one that has touched the letter?"
"Go ahead and yes to my knowledge."
"Do you understand that we are going to have to watch you more closely for a while?"
"Yeah, I kinda figured. After a run-in with the Ghost of Archimedes, I'm surprised you not just arresting me."
Don chuckled and responded, "We watched the camera footage of that floor, you are the literal definition of being at the wrong place at the wrong time." Sam let out a pent-up breath of air. Thank god this could have turned out so much worse.
Annie nodded, "Well that's it for now, please do keep to yourself for the next few days. There was a 1,000 dollar reward for information about your whereabouts and we need some time to clear it." Sam's eyes widened at the amount, it was more than most criminals got. "I don't imagine you could tell me what happened on the representative's floor?" The curiosity was too much for Sam not to ask.
"No." said both of them in unison. "Green, I do suggest you forget about what happened and be happy you have your health back. You have 16 days’ worth of work to catch up on and I'm sure somebody is missing you after you've been gone for so long. Eh?" Don said while he and Annie were getting up to leave. Sam didn't have any family, but she did have a friend that she shared everything with named Robin. Thinking about it, Robin was probably going crazy and Sam just then noticed that she didn't have her phone. Probably lost somewhere and would have to get a new one.
Sam just nodded and showed them out the door. "Have a good day Samantha," said Annie calmly, "I do hope we don't meet again soon. Also, you have a beautiful collection of books." Putting her smile back on that was now almost too tight, she and Don walked down the hall back to the stairs. Sam closed the door and slumped to the floor leaning against the door frame. Ok, I think the worst part is over I hope Sam took a breath and caught her own stench. Groaning, "I need a shower." Pushing herself up, Sam gathered up some clean clothes which included jeans and a plaid button-up shirt. Grabbing her sandals, a bar of soap, and a towel, she opened her door and peeked around making sure that no one else was on her floor and headed to the showers.
The washroom was a larger room that was made up of two rows of stalls that had a showerhead in each. Putting on her sandals, Sam headed towards the middle and turned on the water to as hot as she could stand. Stripping and walking in the water, it tingled all over and felt like it was melting away the last couple weeks of grime. Sam was 5'6" weighing about 110lbs, which was underweight in her opinion. She took the bar of soap and lathered up her dirty blonde hair. It would dry her hair out, but it was all she had, besides, it had two weeks of just soaking in its own oils... Sam chuckled to herself at the disgusting thought. It would survive a soapy scrub.
After the nice shower and getting in clean clothes Sam wiped down the walls of the shower with a provided squeegee and headed back to her own room. It was getting dark outside, the first sun was setting on the horizon. Which meant it was getting dark in her room too, not feeling like sleeping just yet. Sam sat on her cot with a book called "A Monster Calls", and read till there was no more light. Then, putting the book aside, she just laid in bed reflecting what happened to her, and soon sleep took her.
