Despite the mass amounts of trouble I always manage to find myself in, this was the first time I’d ever snuck out of the house. This was also the first time I’d ever been carried bridal style by a guy who refused to put me down until we got to the car.
“Ok seriously how am i not heavy to you?” I ask in disbelief as we slowly trudge up the hill. “I used to do wrestling so I had to be in the gym a lot. I once picked up a guy that was roughly 400 pounds.” He smiled proudly. As I pulled out my phone to make sure my mom hadn't caught on to my disappearance.
“So why has your mom got you all upset?” Alvin asked, catching me off guard. “ I heard a lot of yelling when I walked up to your house but I couldn't make out what you were saying. I’m really sorry for eavesdropping but you sounded so mad so I just wanna make sure your ok.”
I sighed in relief once I realized he had not heard anything major and I Was also glad that he cared enough to ask. “ It's fine for the most part my mom just felt like she had to remind me that this is the only school in the area that would take me.. Needless to say I got really annoyed.”
We shared a laugh as we almost made it to the end of the street.
“Well I’m glad you're ok if you ever need to talk just let me know.”
His concern put a smile on my face but before I could say thank you Alexis called us over.
“Hey slowpokes hurry up!” Alexis yelled as we approached Mariah's car. “The party has been calling my name for the past hour.. Alvin why are you carrying Jaden?”
“That's a really good question.”Satoya siad from the passenger seat with a smirk
“I had to jump from a second story window and he caught me.” I explained as we both climbed into the trunk.
“Is that what the young kids are calling it now?”
“Tariq your only a year older than us.”
“That doesn't matter.”
“I’m pretty sure it does.”
“Anywho..” Darold began as Mariah pulled off down the road. “ Let's get to this party and make life choices that parents would question!”
With a shared laugh we drove in silence to the rich part of the neighborhood headed to a party that I would soon regret ever attending
~*~*~*~
Since we were on the rich side I wasn't at all surprised that the house was huge. What surprised me was that it was the biggest house in the neighborhood. The house was so large It looked like it was bigger than Kim Kardashians Mansion. The bass itself was shaking the entire house as I could distinctly hear five different songs playing in different parts of the house.
“Does anyone else think this is kinda overkill for a monday night party?” Tariq asked in awe and confusion as we got out of the car. “Whose house does this even belong too?”
“Does that really matter when my house can fit in the pool?” Satoya said
No one had an answer as we all entered the house to find what almost appeared to be the entire student body at the party.Alexis quickly and Satoya quickly found the buffet table as well as the alcohol and quickly disappeared into the crowd.Tariq moved straight to the dance floor while Darold made his way to the dj and started flirting with a group of girls leaving Mariah,Alvin and me still standing in the door awkwardly.
“Does it bother anyone else slightly bothered with how fast they moved?” I ask as the three of us link arms and walk through the crowd. “That was actually really impressive when you think about.”Mariah mused as she ducked under someone's arm before it could hit her in the face.
“So what are we supposed to do now ?”Alvin asked slightly puzzled as we made it to the end of the room.
“Why are you asking me? I only came because you guys were gonna be here.” I reply as someone who had a little too much to drink through up in the punch bowl.
“Well the way I see it we have a few options..''Mariah said as she stepped over someone and opened the screen door that led to the pool. “We can sit here and watch Satoya challenge everyone to a twerk competition..” She pointed in Satoya’s direction as she got surprisingly low in her splits. “ Or we can go outside in that abnormally large pool.”
Alvin and I didnt respond right away since we were too busy watching Satoya shame a bunch of unsuspecting students with her skills. Eventually Mariah sighed and grabbed us by the ears before dragging us outside to the pool.
~*~*~*~
Apparently Mariah and Alvin both anticipated that there would be a pool since they both had swimsuits on underneath their clothes. I wondered how they managed that since they both had to be hot with all of those clothes on , but I decided to put it out of my mind as I rolled up my pants sleeves and dipped my feet in the water.
I could feel the tension as the water slowly wrapped itself around my legs in small coils, but thankfully since the pool was full of water it went unnoticed. It had been a while since i used my powers on serious level, so it felt good to use them however i could, even if all I could do is move the water a little.
Eventually Mariah swam over in my direction and surfaced in confusion. “ Why does the water feel harder to swim through over here?”
“Um.. I don't know? Maybe because the water is deeper over here?” I shrugged hoping that answer would be enough to satisfy her .
Lucky for me she paid no mind and sat down next to her as she shook the excess water out of her hair.
Alvin continued to do cannonballs in the water absentmindedly while we judged which ones were better.
“So..” Mariah began “ Why did you agree to come to this party? This type of thing doesn't really seem like your scene.
She definitely wasn't wrong about that. Truth be told this was the first party I'd ever been to. Even as I sat there I wasn't entirely sure why I was there but Alvin doing another cannonball I was quickly shocked back into reality.
“Honestly the only reason I came is because they all were here.” I answered honestly. “Plus my mom was getting on my nerves and Alvin was already at my window when he texted me so I figured why not.”
“Oh really.” Mariah smirked “So if any of the others had come to get you would you have said yes?”
“I know what you're thinking and I'm telling you right now to stop thinking about it.” I said with a laugh while the smirk on her face ceased to go away.
“That wasn't a no.”
“It wasn't a yes either.”
“I mean he did carry you all the way to the car.” She teased “Bridal style is a good look for you.”
“Oh my god.” i laughed “Alvin is a nice guy who i'm sure would have done that for anyone regardless of who it was.. Besides, I'm pretty sure he's straight.”
“So you wish he wasn't?” Mariah asked to receive no immediate answer since I was caught off guard by the question.
I mean it's not like I didn't see just how cute he was,but i was already risking a lot by even being friends with people.I certainly didn't have time for a relationship.
And yet as Alvin got out of the pool and looked over at me with a smile, I could feel my face getting warm. It took everything in me just to keep myself from bursting into flames.
“Truth be told i'm not entirely sure what I want right now.”
“Is that a fancy way of saying you're not straight?” Mariah nudged my shoulder playfully as I chuckled at her question. “If you wanted to know my sexuality you could’ve easily just asked me y’know?” “Sorry..” she blushed slightly embarrassed. “Most people get really offensive when I ask.”
“Why?”
We both shared a look for a moment before bursting out into a fit of giggles.
“Anyway..” I continued. “I’m actually bisexual if that answer soothes your mind.”
“Oh that's great!” Mariah suddenly exclaimed leaving me confused.
“Why is that so great?”
Before she could answer, Alvin walked up and sat in between us wrapping his arms around our shoulders.
“What are you chatting about?” He asked with a smirk
“N-nothing at all!” Mariah quickly shot up and walked to the other edge of the pool to grab her towel when she looked out into the woods in confusion.
“Um guys?” She replied. “I’m not really sure what i'm looking at but you two need to see this.”
Alvin and I looked to each other in confusion before getting up to stand on both sides of her. As we looked out into the woods, Mariah grabbed our chins and directed our heads downwards to look along the wood trail and what I saw nearly made me jump out of my clothes.
Walking along the path and into the woods were five distinct figures that i wouldn't have been able to identify in the dark if it wasn't for the fact that one of the figures was glowing a dark purple.
At first what i assumed was a different colored flashlight quickly proved to be a girl our age glowing from head to toe.
After taking a closer look, I quickly realized that they were the five girls from lunch earlier today and walking ahead of the group right next to the glowing girl was the redheaded monster known as Gianna as they quickly made their descent into the woods unbeknownst to the other party goers.
“Ok do we all see the glowing girl?” Alvin asked in disbelief as the five girls disappeared from view into the woods.”
Mariah slower nodded her head in agreement while I stood there motionless.
Someone else had powers like me? How and why? I always assumed I wasn't the only one but I'd never seen someone else like me in order to prove it, and her powers seemed so different from mine that I almost didn't want to believe it was true.
What left me wondering even more is why she seemed to trust Gianna enough to reveal her powers to her.
Unless all five of them had powers?
This revelation left me speechless and before I knew it I was starting to walk down the hill to find out for myself. As I turned to look behind me I could see that Alvin and Mariah had taken the steps with me as if we were all on autopilot, but couldn't help but wanna know more.
Taking both of their hands in my own, the three of us walked down the trail in pursuit of the girls.
Something tells me the real party is just beginning.
