Admittedly, Fires and Embers can get really sad and depressing at times, so my husband/editor and I thought it would be fun to add some lighthearted, funny, non-canon moments. In Japanese manga, this is known as "omake", meaning "extra" or "bonus". In the case of Fires and Embers, it will be known by the Filipino term "Ekstra Eksena", which means "Extra Scene". Enjoy!
A Japanese soldier forced to leave his mother and his fiancee to join a war he doesn't truly believe in.
A Filipina and her family forced to seek refuge from ruthless invaders.
Under circumstances brought upon by the Second World War, their lives intermingle in a saga of trust and loyalty, lies and betrayal, and one ultimate truth: "Nothing but LOVE can conquer all."
