A docile creature which is often mistaken for its more aggressive cousin, the phoenix. A story dating back three centuries tells of a fisherman who's village was saved from a rogue wave after a meeting with one such bird and heeding its advice to escape. Many used to think the birds communicated these preminitions as some crows and blackbirds do, through mimicry and song, but later research suggests it might be through a form of telepathy. From the previously mentioned tale, many wealthy king, emperors and merchants have long sought to own one of these distinctive birds, in hopes they would impart advice on the future to them. These birds however, do not last long in confinement and grow dull and eventually die if kept in cages for long periods of time. As such, merchants now track these birds down, seeking out the 'eyes' in their tail feathers to set and sell in jewllery as they continue to blink even after being cut and make for relatively attractive and expensive trinkets.
{Thank you for 1k views and I'm sorry this is so late! New job and a rewrite (a lot of this section had to be cut and reworked to make it all 'flow'). But hopefully I'm back now and stuck in quarantine too so fingers crossed the 4 month gap wont return!}
'The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change' - Heraclitus
The Libraries have served their purposes for the people involved in researching and combating the Fae in this world. Now, they lie unused as those concerned have had the knowledge contained in these books passed from one generation to the next and everyone has lived in blissful security for centuries.
Now the Fae have started to change. Small but terrible incidents have started to take place and the systems that have been set in stone for so long have started to crumble in the face of something new and frightening.
Having recently inherited one of these Libraries, Salem Gascoigne intends to undertake new and brave research, documenting these odd Fae instances in hopes of understanding what is really happening to the strange creatures in this world and why they seem to be targeting humans.
With the help of an assistant (who my be less than human) the two set out on this research mission and get themselves tangled up in something bigger than they bargained for.
