Alvin and I talked to each other over the phone for almost the entire night, the both of us still clearly giddy about our kiss. Somehow I could still feel how soft his lips were against mine that the thought of it had made my hair catch on fire three times that evening. My mom was immediately suspicious of me, especially after she had to help me put my air out, and because I was already keeping secrets from her about what was going on at school and plus I was too happy to want to keep this a secret.
I spent the entire car ride telling my mom about my date with Alvin from the movie to the kiss and her face lit up in excitement. I told her that I was bisexual my sophmore year of highschool, and while it was an adjustment for her, she was always supportive of me, so as I told her about Alvin I wasnt at all surprised when she squealed like a highschool girl.At that point I could’nt tell who was more excited about me going to homecoming as my mother kept giving me tips as well as reminding me that he better have me home at a certain time tonight.
As soon as we got home Alvin and I spent the entire night talking about whatever we could think about. I was almost at the point of passing out while on the phone until Alvin brought up a topic that I had been hoping I could avoid.
“So what do you think Jamesons deal is with you?” Alvin asked me with a yawn as I sat up in my bed. “I honestly don't know… but if I had to guess this guy definitely knew me before I got to this school.”
“Yeah that much was obvious. I mean we all tensed up when he pulled you into that hug.. He seemed almost desperate for your approval?”
“ Trust me I was desperate for him to let go.” I remark as we both laugh. “In all seriousness I think you should tell your mom about him before things get worse.”
“Alvin that is probably the one thing that I can't do. While I have no idea who this guy is he definitely knows me, which means that the only way he can know me is if he knows my mom ,and if she knows who he is and has never told me about him then there has to be a reason for that.”
“Fair enough, but if they do end up knowing each other what do you think their history is?”
“Hopefully it's one that doesn't end up coming back to bite me in the ass.” I sigh before saying goodnight since I couldn't even be bothered to keep my eyes open.
For the time being I tried to put Jameson and my mother out of my mind. There is no way they could know each other because if they did not only would my mom tell me about, but we also never would’ve moved here for me to go to school with more than half the student body having powers like me.
Besides homecoming was in a few hours I wanted to enjoy it with my date.
That morning I was woken up by my sister excitedly jumping on my bed.
“Wake up dude mom made pancakes!”
“Well good morning to you too.” I rub my eyes as Madison stops jumping on my bed to fall into my lap.
“Jaden its noon and homecoming starts at five your lucky I woke you up instead of mom cause she was about to come in here with a pan of grits.”
With that bit of news I quickly got up and went to brush my teeth while my sister slid down the stair railing and into the kitchen.
After getting rid of my rancid breath, i walked downstairs into the kitchen where my mom was waiting as she put the last plate of breakfast on the table.
“Well hello sleeping beauty.” my mom smirked while Madison attacked the plate of bacon. “ Any reason why you were asleep so late?”
“Cause he was talking to his new boyfriend!” My sister teased with a mouthful of bacon. “I still can't believe someone willingly agreed to date you.”
“First off, he's not my boyfriend, and second off why is it so surprising that I asked someone out and they said yes?” “Because of all the other times you’ve been rejected.” My mother chimed in as my sister laughed.
Well they weren't wrong there.Since middle school I’d been rejected or cast aside in many different ways from people, girls only saying yes out of pity or because they were dared to, and guys simply laughing in my face at the thought of going out with me. I hadn't let it destroy my self esteem, but it was definitely one of those things you can never forget.
Which is why I didn't need my mom or my sister reminding me of my past blunders.
“Thanks so much for the confidence boost you two.” I reply sarcastically as I get up from the table to go get ready.
“Anytime my son!”
“Good luck on your date!”

The rest of my day was spent rushing from my room to the bathroom as I got ready for homecoming that night. As I went over the final touches on my suit, and combing my hair for the fifth time I could feel my nerves starting to settle in. In the few months since I’d started going to this school, Alvin and I had become very good friends and the closer we got, the more my feelings for him grew. Normally when I asked someone out, I was a nervous, stuttering mess of emotions, but with him it came so easy.My mind went back to the first kiss we had yesterday and I could feel my skin getting so I had to take a few deep breaths before I burned right through my clothes. It didn't help that it had also been my first kiss from someone that wasnt my mother.
With an hour to spare, and Alvin and the others on the way, I glanced at myself in the mirror one last time satisfied with the final results. This was probably the nicest I had ever dressed in my entire life, and I felt pretty good as I walked down the stairs to show my mom.
Although something must have been wrong with the way I looked because when my mom saw me she let out a high pitched squeal before dropping the glass cup that shattered against the floor. My face washed with confusion as my mom's face seemed to pale entirely as if she had seen a ghost. She put her hand over her mouth as she began to shiver which confused me even more because it seemed like she was scared of me.
“Mom are you ok?” I tried to move closer, but she quickly moved away from me and into the kitchen while I stared at her in disbelief.
“Sorry baby you look wonderful it's just.. I didn't realize that was the suit you were gonna wear.”
“You don't like it? What's wrong with it?”
“It's not that I don't like it you ju- Oh look your friends are here!” My mom exclaimed, managing to completely deviate my focus as I quickly said goodbye to my mom and then ran outside to meet them.
While my mom had managed to escape a conversation we needed to have, it was definitely gonna come back to bite us both in the ass.

Autumn hated the suit her son was wearing and the fact that this particular suit is the one he chose terrified her more than anything. While she couldn't deny that her son looked amazing, as he did in anything he wore, what scared her so much was the fact that the suit he was wearing also happened to look exactly like the suit that his father had worn the day they met.
It must have been a joke. Some sick coincidental joke that god was playing on her. After all, her children had no idea who their father was.In fact they weren't even aware of the possibility that they may not have the same dad.
She had no clue just how lucky she had been on the dates of their births when she realized that both of her children took after her in appearance as their fathers looked very different compared to her. However as the days went by she could see how they took after them both respectfully.
Jaden was a short fuse whenever something happened that he didn't like and with his powers that only made things worse. Of course it was never really his fault that things were so bad. If she had been honest with him maybe they would have a better relationship now.
Madison was entirely different, reminding the mother too much of her father. A care free, wild card that spoke before he thought and it was only a miracle of god that Madison had not inherited her father's powers, for she could only imagine what sort of hell that would've caused if she had to deal with two super-powered children.
Autumn hated lying to them and she hated seeing her son feel so alone, but if he knew just how bad it was for people like him, or just how powerful of a man his father was..
No. The only reason that she and her kids are still alive is because she's been careful, so regardless if all Jaden did was pick the same suit his father had worn Autumn had to look into it.
Obviously she had researched the school that he was attending thousands of times, but nothing out of the ordinary even on the website it looked like every other worn down school that took in troubled kids, but after seeing that suit Autumn couldn't shake her bad feeling.
Someone had left an impression on her son and even if it wasn't him she would protect her kids with her last breath.
She pulled out her phone and quickly texted her mother the situation hoping she would come to help, and then quickly scrolled through her contacts and stopped on a name she hadn't thought of in years.
With a long sigh she pressed the call button and the person she needed to speak to answered on the second ring.Without hesitation Autumn spoke before they could even say a word.
“Hey you… yeah I know its been a while.. Listen how soon can you get here?”
