Days have gone by since the attack. Ellie sat there in the booth, Averett and Farren sat across from each other, engaged in conversation, but Ellie couldn't recall what the conversation was about. She was to focus on the different noises that were going on in the diner. All the smells were hitting her at once. But today she could tell which smell belonged to what, like the man sitting two booths backs had been in the woods that morning. She could smell the pine scent from where she was sitting.
"Oh, wow, look at the time. We need to get going". Farren says as he slides his arm around Ellie, which caused her mind to come back to the booth in which her body was inhibiting.
"Yeah, I better get goin' to." I've got plans tonight that I can't miss". Averett says as he gets up from the booth.
"Ellie, how are you feeling? You have been out of it for the whole dinner". Averett asked with concern.
Ellie looked between both of them and gave them a small smile.
"Umm, yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired". She answered, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, we should get going,"
Farren said as he got up from the booth; he reached out his hand to help Ellie out as well. The three of them made their way out of the diner with Ellie trailing in the back. Ever since the night of the supposed attack, Ellie hasn't felt like herself. She didn't know how to put into words how she felt, so she knew she couldn't talk about it with one of the guys. Which made her think about the lie Averett told her about that night. Averett had never lied to her once as long as they knew each other. She needed to ask him why he was lying, but she knew now wasn't the time to do it. Not with Farren here. They all might be friends, but things had changed between them since she and Farren got together. Farren believed it was because Averett liked her, but Ellie always reassured him that wasn't the case. Averett had never made a romantic move on her once. Well, that wasn't true, the more she thought about it. There was that one time they shared an awkward kiss as kids. The old memory brought a smile to the corner of her mouth.
"This is where I live y'all," Averett said as he waves goodbye to them.
Farren and Ellie turn to go towards Ellie's house, which happens to pass the old city park, which is the same park where Ellie was attacked. The same park where Averett "found" her while he was on a run when he was supposed to be meeting her. The details of the night run through Ellie had like film stills. She could recall every detail from that night. Ellie started to believe that there is something that Averett is not telling her. She crossed her arms in disappointment. Farren notices Ellie's behavior and wraps his arm around her and pulls her close.
"Is everything ok? I know when you are overthinking things". He smiled down at her, trying to ease her mind.
She looked up at him and gave a smile back, but the smile was short-lived. Ellie noticed a familiar aroma that smelled like old leather, pine trees, and smoke. Ellie always felt drawn to the way Farren smelled, but tonight was different. It awoke something inside of her, like a newfound hunger she needed to satisfy. Ellie stops under an old flickering street light and wraps her arms around Farren's waist. She buried her face in his chest and squeezed tighter. His scent intoxicated her; she couldn't get enough, she pressed closer, dug her nails into his back to bring him closer to her. Farren places his hand on her shoulder and pushes himself away from Ellie.
"Ellie,"? Farren said as he tried to fill his lungs with a deep breath. "I could barely breathe! "What's wrong with you tonight"? Farren waits for the answer.
But his voice couldn't reach Ellie at this point; all she could focus on were the images of them together. Her on top of him, Him on top of her. Thinking about this kind of sexual activity was new to Ellie, she wasn't a virgin, but she was a very missionary when it came to sex. These new images that flooded her mind made her a little feverish, but at the same time, she knew she wanted it.
"Farren. Do you want me"? Farren's cheeks turn red at the sudden question, which would be the expected response from him. Farren looked like a bad boy, but he didn't act the part. Ellie had almost zero experience when it came to this subject. There was something about tonight that transformed Ellie into this sexual predator, and she wanted to go with it. She wrapped her hand around Farren's arms and took a step closer to him. The sudden action causes Farren to stumble off the sidewalk and roll his ankle. Ellie took the opportunity to pull herself closer to him.
"Farren, I want you." She pressed her body close to his; her grip tightens on his arms. She didn't want there to be any space between them. She couldn't let him get away. She couldn't let her prey go.
Farren pulled his arm out of Ellie's grip and put some distance between them. He looked at her as if she was another person.
"Why are you trying to run away? I am your girlfriend". She slyly smiled at him as she took a step towards him.
"Elli, what's going on with you"? Farren asked as he took a step back, trying to keep space between them. Ellie took a bigger step to close the gap between them as she reached out to grab his hand, but Farren jumped back to try to stay out of her reach. Farren looked at the girl that stood before him; gone was the quiet, shy girl that he loved. Now in her place stood, something much darker and sinister.
"What do you mean"? Ellie asks with a hint of desperation. The hunger she had been feeling all night had gotten to a point where she thought it was going to come out of her body and manifest itself into existence. Instinct told her she needed to feed the hunger before it overtook her.
"I'm going home, and you should too." Farren shook his head as he turned away from Ellie and started to walk towards the park.
"Farren, stop!" Ellie yelled as she licked her lips; she was going to end the hunger now. Farren turns back around to Ellie, and fear crept across his face. He takes off in a sprint towards the park. Farren stopped to catch his breath. He didn't realize he ran so far, he looked around and saw that he made it into the park and the edge of the woods was a few hundred yards away from him. He started to walk towards the woods. Like any local, he knew the old walking trails that went through the woods; he started down on the path that he knew would take him home. Farren never really liked the woods, he always felt weird when he used to play in them as a kid. Like eyes were watching him and the others, but he felt like he was the only one who could tell.
Farren heard a sound that sounded like a twig snapping; he turned around to see Ellie behind him.
How did she catch up to me so fast?
"Why are you trying to get away"?
The question sent a chill down Farren's spine. She took a step closer to him as he stepped back. Farren's ankle gives out and falls onto the ground. He looks up at the thing that claims to be his Ellie. Panic now replaces the fear Farren felt as Ellie looks down at him with a wicked grin.
"Elliana what's wrong with--" Farren didn't finish his sentence as the last thing in his view was a waxing moon.
