I took the man-shaped white kangaroo to Vinnies, getting him some cheap second-hand clothes. After, I planned to take him to Kmart for his underwear, and hopefully, find some good shoes at either place. We were lucky to find some t-shirts and long sleeve shirts in different plain colours. Two pairs of jeans, black skinny pants and three neutral-coloured shorts that fitted him and he'd liked. But sadly, no shoes; none that he'd liked or fitted him. They were jaded and looked like they would fall apart at a touch, so not worth the buy. I paid fifty dollars for everything and lead the way to Kmart while Roo carried his bags with a huge grin plastered on his face.
"That was fun." He sang from behind me.
"Max is going to be jealous that we're walking without him," I commented feeling sorry for him.
I was walking for a while when I had this feeling. So, I looked over my shoulder and stopped mid-stride. He was gone.
"Roo?" I called for him, unsure if he was just hiding as a joke. I heard a rustling behind me. I spun my head back around to see him walking out of someone's garden.
"Where were you?" I questioned him unhappily.
"I just felt like going somewhere then ended up here." He said it like it was something that everyone just did whenever.
"You know, that's the reason why Australia will be behind the world with a self-driving car? Kangaroos like you with random thoughts and impulses."
"Okay." He didn't care, the annoying kangaroo.
.....
I watched Roo shake salt onto his chocolate milkshake. We were in a cafe booth where my friend Anna worked. We came here after we finished shopping. He picked out a pair of black thongs, boots, and converse knock-offs, and a five-pack of boxers. Then we went to 'cafe Jo'.
He wanted the chocolate milkshake and I ordered a hazelnut latte and a bowl of chips. As soon as the drinks arrived Roo grabbed the salt shaker and you already know what he did.
He's sooo random.
He catches the straw between his lips. I watch the level go down.
"Aren't you going to drink yours?"
I blink my eyes in surprise before I replied. "You like the taste of salt in your milkshake?" I raised my eyebrow.
"It's delicious." He beams. My eyebrows kissed my hairline.
"Hey Skyla," Anna called out to me. She was carrying over our order of chips. Her wavy dark brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail, chocolate eyes frame by her purple glasses. She was wearing an apron advertising the cafe's name over the top of a black t-shirt and skinny jeans. She placed the chips down. "And who is your friend?"
I smile at her. "Hi to you too. This is Roo." He had the stupidest grin carved on his snowflake face.
"Hello, my name is Anna."
"Nice to meet you." He greeted.
Anna left our table to complete other tasks after I promised to text her later.
Now, what am I going to do? Where will he live, cause he can't live with me. Will he go to school? Which school should he go to if that is what he wants? He'll need a job too, to pay for everything. What am I going to do? I let out a sigh. What is he going to do now?
I'm going to ask him. "Do you want to go to school?" I'm really worried about him.
"I'll think about it." He said before popping a chip in his mouth.
"Well at the very least you need to get a job to pay for a place to live and for school if you decide to go," I said while picking up a chip then dipping it into some tomato sauce before it entered my mouth.
"Aren't I living with you?" He furrowed his brows.
"What?" I choked. "No. We aren't living together." I raised an eyebrow at him. "You need your own home and my room isn't big enough for both of us."
"So, what do I have to do?"
"I can talk to the landlord about you staying in the house but you have to go to school to live there."
"Okay, I'll go to school and live with you."
"Do you have any idea of what kind of job you'll do?"
"Nope."
"Great, this will be fun," I said sarcastically.
"Yeah." He wore a Cheshire cat smile, oblivious to how difficult this will be.
"Let's finish up and head home."
"So, it's my home now?" He smirked.
"Not yet." I scowled.
......
"What are you doing?" Wondered Roo.
"Getting ready for work."
"Can I come?" The kangaroo asked from his comfy spot on the bed.
"No." I glared at him before heading to the door. He and Max gifted me with the puppy dog eyes. The two of them seem to have become friends now. "If you come, who will look after Max?"
Roo thought this over, resting his chin on his fist, furrowing his brows. "Okay." He said sulkily.
"I'll be back before you know." I'd stepped through the door. "Because Max will know before you." With that said, I ran down the stairs and out the front door.
I made it to my workplace ten minutes before my shift starts at 'Coffee Plus'. I hope they don't get into trouble because that'll just make my day.
