~~~~~~
The door to the front office opened and a super tall male entered. Well, not super tall, but quite tall compared to my 4’5”. He was wearing a skin tight muscle tank and tights that seemed to be made of the same black material. Thankfully (honestly) he was also wearing a loose pair of crimson shorts and running shoes.
“Ah, you must be Nova?” He asked softly. His voice was deep, like most guys have (not me though), and yet it was quiet enough to not hurt my ears. I should mention now that I am very sensitive to loud or rough noises.
I started nodding but was stopped as my mother cleared her throat in a way of telling me to speak. I sighed heavily as I stared at the ground. I hate talking.
“Yes…” I mumbled as quietly as I could, “I am Nova White.”
The student council president nodded as he held his hand out. “I am Blaze Royal. I am the student council president and your roommate. Today, I will just show you to the dorm and around the campus. We will stay in each of your classes for a little while so you can see what each class teaches. Most of the classes are not your regular classes. Ready to move your stuff into the dorm?”
My mother took the lead on this. “Yes, we can just go to my car and drive over to the dorm. Will that be okay?”
“Better than carrying everything. Let’s go,” Blaze smiled as he opened and held the door for my mother and me.
My mother went first and led the both of us to her car. I didn’t have many items, as we moved too much for me to accumulate a lot of items, but it was pleasant to drive around the massive campus to the dorms instead of carrying everything across to the dorms.
“So, Nova, if you don’t mind, can you look inside your packet and get your dorm key out. It’ll be a shiny holographic type card.” Blaze’s voice was close to my ear as he had leaned forward in his seat from behind the passenger side. It was strange that his voice stayed just soft enough to not cause headaches to erupt.
Anyway, back to finding this key. I opened the brown parcel and shifted the hundreds of papers until I caught a glimpse of a holographic shine. I reached inside and pulled out a small credit card sized holographic card. The key card was completely flat and blank, minus the shine finish it had.
Blaze chuckled softly from behind me, still close. He lightly grabbed the card as I held it and mumbled a strange word. Slowly, the key card changed. Now, the card showed my name and dorm building and room number. It was only visible if you turned the key a certain way.
“How…”
“Magic. I am a wielder and I was informed you were a holder. The key activates based on what word is said. I said “capsa” which is used to put the holder’s information on the key. “Augmenta” is used to put the wielder’s information on the key. It's a very basic spell, I guess.”
“I think we are here, boys.” My mother interrupted as she placed the car in park.
Blaze opened the door and stepped out. “Yes, our dorm building is this one.”
As I got out of the car, I glanced at the building he was pointing at. It was building 102, which was the one listed on my key card. Magic was so foreign to me. I sighed as my mother opened the trunk of the car.
“Well, we better get this stuff into your dorm. I can’t stay for much longer.” My mother stated as she grabbed two of the boxes.
“Oh, well, if you have to leave now, I can get some of my friends to come help and we can take everything up in one go.” Blaze suggested, his face scrunched up in worry.
“Oh, well, Nova? Will that be okay? You know I have something important to go to.” My mother’s gaze burned through me.
More important than leaving your son with a bunch of magic users… Yeah it is TOTALLY fine.
I shrugged and mumbled out affirmation that it was okay.
Blaze glanced at me before biting his lip, his face still scrunched up in worry, though now I think it is nervousness. Blaze cleared his throat before looking at me directly, “I know this is a bit inappropriate and if I had another way, I would, but can I tap into your magic and use it to teleport my friends here?”
Silence.
I blinked a few times and I could see my mother getting impatient. I know that magic holders can allow a wielder to do certain spells, but I wasn’t sure my magic would allow Blaze to teleport his friends here.
Can’t knock it till you try it right.
I shrugged and nodded. Blaze nodded once before walking closer to me. He held out his hand and waited. I stared at his hand before realizing and placed my much smaller hand in his. He held my hand gently before closing his eyes.
“Close your eyes too Nova.” My mother spat out, impatiency running rapid through her.
I closed my eyes and waited. I could hear Blaze mumble softly before the darkness behind my eyes changed to a small white room. Blaze and I stood in the middle of the room holding our hands together. His eyes were a warm golden brown and were staring at me.
“This is a room that allows people to communicate with each other no matter the distance. To open this room, you say “Apertum locus”, and to open a line of communication, you say “Conloquium” and whoever you wish to speak to.”
I nodded and watched as Blaze continued.
“Conloquium Riot, West, Victoria, and Quinn.”
Soon, four people materialized, three males and one female. All of them were wearing similar outfits to the one Blaze had on, though the female was wearing a loose crimson crop top.
“What the hell, Blaze? It is way too fucking early for you to be needing something from us already.” One of the males spoke. His voice was rough, almost like rocks grinding up. He was more built than all the males and thicker. He had a shaved head and black colored eyes.
“Riot, we have a guest, be nice.” Blaze’s voice dripped with sickly sweet venom.
Riot rolled his eyes as another male spoke. “Riot is right though, class doesn’t start for another two hours. I was sleeping.”
“You are always sleeping,” the female huffed out as she checked her nails, which were painted blood red.
I feel like black and crimson could be the school colors.
“Shut up and let me explain. First, everyone, this is Nova White. He is a magic holder and is new at our school. Nova, these are my friends. Victoria Belladonna, a Class B holder. Ryan ‘Riot’ Stevens, a Type B wielder. Quincy ‘Quinn’ Xavier, a Class B holder. And, last but never least, West Trident, a Type A wielder.”
As I glanced at each of them, I noticed that they all seemed relaxed and calm. No one seemed annoyed or angry at being up early.
Victoria spoke first, “So? Why are we in the White Room?”
“Oh! Right. I need your help, all of you. We need to move Nova’s stuff into his dorm and his mother has to leave soon. Be prepared, okay.”
The group muttered affirmations as they slowly disappeared. “Okay, Nova, now we are going to leave the White Room and then I will attempt to teleport my friends to us, okay?”
I nodded and slowly the room disappeared and the darkness returned. My eyes slowly opened to reveal golden orbs staring back at me.
“Let’s attempt.” Blaze whispered softly.
I only now realized he was very close. Quietly, he whispered, “Lanuae Magicae West, Riot, Victoria, and Quinn.”
In a blink of an eye, the four people appeared. Riot cracked his neck, loudly, and Quinn erupted in a coughing fit. West sounded like he had a runny nose and Victoria had small paper cuts around wrists.
Blaze slowly let go of my hand and explained, “When you teleport, minor injuries happen based on your body. Riot is always sore and has neck pain, Quinn has a history of asthma, West has seasonal allergies, and Victoria’s skin tends to bruise or cut easily. The injuries go away after a short time, so don’t ever be afraid to teleport out of a situation.”
“Alright! Let’s move some boxes!” Quinn shouted, a little too loud for my liking.
My mother handed everyone two boxes and soon all the boxes were out of the trunk and in our hands. “Alright, well I must leave. Nova, be a good boy. The school sends weekly reports on your academics, so you better study and do well. Stay safe.” She kissed my forehead before hopping into her car and driving off.
I will probably never see her again. Oh well.
Blaze led the group of us into the dorm building and down the first floor hallway. The group chatted among themselves, mostly about classes they had later today. Soon we all stopped at a door and Blaze waved me to the front of the group.
The door was a standard oak door, nothing really special.
“Hold your key card on the electronic pad.” Blaze instructed as he pointed out the black part on the doorknob. I held my key and a small chime and a click and a green light lit up.
“Open it.”
I pulled the handle and pushed the door open.
Inside, the room was actually more spacious than I thought. It was practically a small apartment with two decently sized rooms. One room was empty and bare, minus the bed, desk, and dresser. The other room was decorated and neatly messy. The living area and kitchen flowed together and looked partially lived in. I could tell Blaze doesn’t cook much, as there were very little items in the glass paned cabinets. The living space had a decent sized couch and loveseat and a very big flat screen TV. I could see another door that was closed and assumed it probably led to the bathroom.
“Alright, everyone just set the boxes in that room and you all may depart. I will treat all of us to dinner at Whiskey Fox!” Blaze shouted as the group cheered and headed into the bare room.
After a few minutes, the group had disappeared, some leaving naturally and some teleporting. Blaze walked over to me, I was still in the middle of the kitchen/living space.
“Hey, Nova?” Blaze was standing in front of me. I blinked a few times before glancing up at him, my head cocking to the side a bit. “You don’t talk much, huh?” I shook my head. “You don’t like crowds or loud noises?” Again, I shook my head. “Do you have headphones? Like the big headphones that cover your ears?” Confused, I shook my head.
Blaze nodded once before entering his own room. I could hear him opening and closing things, tossing stuff aside, and making a bunch of noise. I guess he was searching for something. After a few minutes, Blaze walked back towards me holding black headphones.
“Here. Put this on whenever the noise gets too much. The classrooms tend to be very noisy, as does the cafeteria, gym, and pretty much any common area. Except the library of course.” Blaze chuckled lightly as I took the headphones.
“Now, let’s get your schedule out and I will explain what our day will consist of.” Blaze grabbed the brown parcel that I had placed on the island in the kitchen. He pulled out a packet of papers.
