Unlike Caides, who is not a vampire but would like you to think he is, Hans is a vampire who would like you to think he is not a vampire.
Like Caides, though, he too was kept prisoner for a very long time. After being turned into a vampire by his vampiric sire, Stregor, he was kept imprisoned in Stregor's dark castle as his pet for nearly 200 years. While Stregor kept him as a pet, he intermittently pampered and tortured Hans without pattern or reason, and it's made our sweet, sweet boy very reclusive and easily startled.
It's also made Hans mute, as Stregor cut out his vocal cords. Oh, and half blind as well, as Stregor also cut out one of Hans's eyes. That guy's just no good. A real awful dude.
