“You have to eat more than that for your first day of school!” Alice’s overly enthusiastic voice made both males wince.
“Damn it Alice, it’s seven in the morning, can we cool it down till at least the sun is fully up?”
Aibek sighed. Of all the bodyguards in the world, only he could have the misfortune of having the loudest pair in the entire twelve kingdoms.
“I already filled up your backpack and printed out a map and schedule, you should be all set to go.”
“It’s only two classes, I don’t see why you are making such a fuss.” Aibek grunted at the surprising heftiness of his bag as he slugged it on his left shoulder.
“Well you’ve never been to public school, so who knows what you might need.”
He couldn’t really argue much with that logic. He was actually interested in seeing more of the city. Originally they planned to stay out in the outskirts, however Jasper hates long trips. He swears they are the bane of any protection detail. Everyone apparently gets ambushed on the road.
Alice doubled checked his glamour, making sure all of his non human features couldn’t be seen in any angle. Like most cancerians, his skin was blueish green and in certain places like the outside of his forearms and calves were tiny sharp spines.
He was actually one of the more gifted cancerians when it came to transformation. Most can’t hide their extra arms or legs and some couldn’t even transform their large pincers into workable hands.
Despite zodiacs races being able to resemble mostly human with skill and talent, there are always certain features that cannot be willed away.
Pisces has gills and fins. Aries has massive horns and tails. Leos with their ears and claws. Each sign held a certain characteristic that stuck no matter how well trained.
Unless you were one of the few born to the Scorpios or held one as a friend. Only they can completely mask their physical features. In fact, he can’t even recall a single instance where Alice and Jasper let down their own glamours.
“So...which of you will be joining me today?”
Jasper stood from the table, a piece of toast hanging from his mouth as he placed his laptop into a carrier bag. “Ready.”
The trip was silent. Jasper always felt awkward when he alone with the prince. Aibek could sense and read emotions without even bothering which meant he never really needed to verbally communicate. It was more or less like mind reading. ( Although technically that was a Pisces ability and Jasper hated them intensely for it.)
Jasper wished the other male would actually say something. It was impossible to guess what was going in his head and that left the once assassin with a little more anxiety than he cared to admit.
“Do you think you have a good handle on the language?” 'Haha! Yes that was a smooth and casual question.' Jasper mentally praised.
Aibek nodded. “I believe so. It is a little harder than I thought, but not nearly as difficult as our own.”
“Are you enjoying the food? I know it’s a lot different than what you’re used to-“
“Jasper. You don’t have to do this. I’m fine. I know you’re only asking because Alice put you up to this.”
Said accused frowned and shook his head. “That’s not true. She didn’t ask me to do anything. She is not the only one who is worried about you. No offense, but have you looked at yourself lately in a mirror? I’ve seen caught seafood have more life than you.”
Aibek remained silent for a little awhile, staying at the icy wind howling through the grey tundra. “I’m working on it. I promise.” His voice was soft, barely above a whisper, yet it echoed loudly in the car.
“Well good, because we’re here.”
Aibek stared intently through the window at the bustling courtyard, dozens of humans casually strolled around wrapped up in thick layers of clothing, smiling and talking in a way that made a small ember of envy grow in his chest.
The architecture of the university was grand. Artistically engraved stone walls depicted old Russian history and culture. The lack of greenery and life made this place feel even less welcoming to those that didn’t have the courage to stand before its gates. Clearly designed to be imposing, forcing all to feel belittled and insignificant.
However compared to the massive and ancient abyssal cancerian palace. This was nothing but a beginners sandcastle ready to be dissolved by a overzealous wave.
“Let’s get this over with, I suppose...”
“Wow. Don’t you just sound excited?” Mumbled Jasper as he parked the car and went to open Aibek’s door.
"I heard that."
"Hey, don't forget to bundle up. Just cause this isn't cold for you, doesn't mean you can go around in a t-shirt and shorts. It's ten degrees out here. You have to pretend it's cold at the very least."
A low muttering of 'annoying weak humans' filled Jasper's ears and he couldn't help but grin as Aibek angrily pulled a thick hoodie over his head and accepted the warm coat from Jasper. The prince was finally showing an emotion besides boredom and that was good enough for him.
