I've gotten this question a few times, so here is the answer straight from Chara.
Eternals do need to eat and drink (thus why Chara used the qualifier "really"), but only very little, and they can go for extremely long periods without eating or drinking. This was something that was discussed a bit in Eternals (another story that a friend of mine and I did with space elves) as well.
However, just as a matter of record, Chara likes to eat regularly. ;)
