2000 years ago Dragons reigned over the world and oppressed humanity. Though the early humans felt that they where destined for something higher and had the intelligence to back that up, they where powerless against the mighty dragons. Any attempt to build a society, villages, grow crops or keep cattle where destroyed almost immediately. Only the elves, with their superior magic, where able to not only fend off the dragons, but also build giant cities and a flourishing society.
One day, the first human capable of wielding magic appeared. His name was Arajas. Sharing his god given gift with his fellow humans, they managed to fight back and just like the elves take their own place in this world.
But that's not all. After honing his skills for decades, with his last breath and every ounce of magic he had in his body, Arajas did one last thing for the young Humanity. He put a curse on all dragons, an eternal punishment. For all those centuries that they tortured humanity, they would have to live through the same thing. Taking away their immortal bodies and taking away most of their magic, he imprisoned their souls in humanoid vessels. Stripped off all their power they where forced to live under the growing humanity, the very same they terrorized for so long, having to live shunned out by society, living their lifes as beggars or slaves.
Arajas on the other hand was first celebrated as a hero, later as a godsend avenger and finally as a god himself, giving birth to the Order of Arajas, the most spread religion under the human population, worshipping the human Arajas, that rose to godhood and punished the evil dragons and a slightly smaller, but not less important splinter group, the follower of Xernaves, who claim that it was actually an elf that took pity on the humans, and tought them how the elves use magic.
Both groups are in a constant fight with each other, as the Order of Arajas demonizes everything elven, as in their belief they did nothing to help the early humanity in need.
"What about the dragons though?" Asmira asked, already almost asleep
"I was getting to that" Aley answered with a chuckle "Legend says, that if a dragon does a truly good deed from the bottom of their heart, one that is enough to undo the countless wrongs their species has committed, that dragon can once again spread his wings"
