Chapter 3: No Quirk?
(Disclaimer!)
Deku and I were in the nurse’s office with Recovery Girl.
Her quirk was healing wounds and such.
“So…….. you didn’t tell my dad about the fact that I don’t have a quirk did you?”
“As if I wanna be the one to tell him that his son has no quirk,” she said.
She did an x ray looking at the insides of Deku’s body.
“Well nothing seems to be broken,” she said.
“Except me not having a quirk.”
“Well, maybe you’re a late bloomer,” Recovery Girl said, “I remember when I was young my quirk didn’t come until my senior year.”
Deku seemed really concerned.
“I’m just worried,” he said, “How can I save the world or even be a sidekick without a quirk?”
“Oh chin up son,” she said, “Everything will turn out right in the end. I’m sure even All Might will see potential in you.”
Deku made it back home to see his parents.
“There he is,” Hisashi said, “The man of the hour.”
“How did school go honey?”
“Hey… dad, we need to have a talk.”
“Well I know just the spot.”
He pressed a secret button.
“You’re letting me in the secret area?” He asked.
“That’s right.”
They both went downstairs.
Deku was amazed at everything that was down there.
“A pool table? A pinball machine?” Deku asked.
He also looked at the relics of the past villains he faced working with All Might.
He also saw a strange looking weapon.
“What’s this?” He asked.
“This is my most proudest possession,” Hisashi said, “It was a weapon used by the villain, One For All. He planned to take away all quirks by using this machine. But All Might managed to defeat him.”
Deku knew he had to tell his parents.
“So what was it you wanted to say?”
“Well……. I’m excited about the rest of my life at Ultra Academy,” Deku said.
Someone was secretly watching them.
“Well it seems like you’re right,” said another person, “Looks like his father has the same ego as All Might had.”
Deku was sitting on the roof.
I decided to join him.
“So you couldn’t tell them could you?” I asked.
“He showed me the secret sanctum and I…. I just couldn’t break his heart,” he explained, “Everyone expects greatness from me.”
“Deku I know you want to make your parents proud but someday you’ll have to tell them.”
“But if I don’t have powers, how can I save people?”
“Don’t you remember 3rd grade when those kids were picking on me?” I asked him, “You dove in and fought them off by pelting them with stones. You don’t have to have powers to be my best friend.”
Deku smiled.
I saw a mysterious figure looking at us again.
The next day we were in our first class of Hero support, with our professor Tornio.
“Morning class,” he said, “My name is Torino Sensei, and you probably recognize me as the man who trained All Might.”
He showed off his quirk which is superspeed.
“It is my privilege to help you all become the basics that I’m best at. Those include but are not limited the basics of many things, such as hero names, using your quirks for assistance, and costume designs.”
“COSTUME DESIGNS, YEAH!!!!!” Denki said.
We all chuckled.
“You all probably know me as a man who was in a team with All Might, and Hawk.”
Something happened causing a power outage.
The lights came back on at an instant.
“Oh look,” Jiro said, “He is made of electricity.”
Denki had electricity flowing through his body.
“Told you guys I was hero material,” he said.”
Aizawa sensei came into the room.
“Nobody needs to panic, we just had a bit of a misfire in a classroom.”
We were taking courses on designing costumes and quirk training.
Deku was always last as he never got his quirk yet.
We also took a class on quick costume changes.
The best part about this was if we managed to get an A on the course for the semester, we were automatically switched to the advanced courses in the spring semester.
But if Deku didn’t get his quirk then, I was planning to decline the offer, as I wanted to be by his side.
We were all at Deku’s place working on an assignment..
I was designing my costume idea.
“So I think I overheard someone call you Uravity,” he said, “What was all that about?”
“Oh its just some name that people call me to make fun of me,” I said, “I don’t think I’m gonna use it though.”
“Why not?” Deku asked, “I think its sounds awesome. Its like you’re saying ‘No matter how big the danger, I always manage to get back up’, and plus I think it sounds cute.”
I started to blush.
“Uravity it is,” I said.
“So if you kids are in here, then who’s out there saving the world?”
Deku’s dad arrived.
Mineta jumped up.
“Its an honor to meet you sir,” he said, “I’m Mineta and I throw magical grapes.”
“I see,” he said.
“I’m Denki, and I conduct electricity.”
“I’m Jirou, I plug into amplifiers.”
“Well you are a lively bunch,” Hisashi said.
He was in the kitchen and Deku joined him.
“Good friends Deku, but does that kid really conduct electricity?”
“Yeah,” Deku said.
“Looks like they’ve lowered the bar for quirks,” Hisashi said.
I was secretly listening into the conversation.
“Well they’re…. Actually sidekicks.”
“Ah, makes sense,” he said, “Your grandad never would’ve allowed sidekicks to hang around heroes in his house, but I’m different.”
“Nothing wrong with sidekicks right?” Deku asked.
“Of course not, one saved my life once,” Hisashi said, “I even started off as a sidekick.”
“So you’d be ok if I was one.”
“Was what?”
“A sidekick,” Deku said, “I’m a sidekick.”
Hisashi turned around.
“I washed out of Quirk placement.”
His emotion turned to concern.
“Washed OUT!!!!” He said, “…….Overdrive.”
He slammed his fist on a table.
“He failed at his chance at getting the spotlight, so he thinks he’s entitled to pass judgement on the kids of pro heroes?” He said, “Its a quirk trip. Overdrive?! Try gym teacher man.”
He grabbed a phone.
“Dad wait, what are you doing?”
“I’m calling the school to file a complaint.”
“No its not the coach its me,” Deku said, “I don’t have a quirk!”
Hisashi was surprised to hear that.
“But….. you made it seem like…”
“Like I had a quirk of my own, or yours?” Deku asked.
“Deku its ok, you’ll get your quirk one day, you’re…… just a late bloomer, that’s it.”
“Maybe, maybe not, but truth be told, I’m proud to be a sidekick,” Deku said.
He went back to join us and I smiled at him.
Later that evening, Deku was looking out at the window.
He saw someone near the house.
“IS that….” He said.
He snuck out of the house to see the stranger.
It was none other than All Might.
“I’ve been watching you for a long time Deku,” he said.
