(This in-between episode is to explain the role of rangers in the world of this story. It is written from the point of view of rangers.)

We are rangers. Protectors of nature. We are the shield of humanity and the gurdians of the realm.

We are free men.

Though we might make a living as a hunting adventurer, a guide, or a tracker, a ranger’s true calling is to defend the outskirts of civilization from the ravages of monsters and humanoid hordes that press in from the wild.

We have been watching over lands from the dawn of human civilizations. As so, even in this modern day, we have been recognised by the governments, and we have been honored with the job of watching over the border lands and nature-blessed areas. We mostly roam beyond the border, which is a huge wall made of thousands of stones and bricks. Behind the enormous wall camp the soldiers forces. Army troops and police. But, their jurisdiction ends within the wall, where our reign begins.

There are huge forests filling most of the gaps between the borders of all countries, bridging them together.

In those forests lie the many mystic creatures unknown to humanity. We know them. But, most of the people think it as our prejudices and that is how the rumours said to be. Nonetheless, we are happy that they do not believe in it, or else they would have tried to invade the natural wilderness, threatening other species to go extinct. Such forests provide room for adventures and treasures. Many adventurers from many countries come into the depth of this forests, in search of treasures and thrills.

People do not travel via this route. They travel across country by air. Modern machines have given humans many commodities. However, we rangers prefer not such convenience. We take honor in sticking to our rituals and worshipping our nature gods. We borrow the power from nature itself to destroy any threats against us, nature or humanity. Our sworn enemies are hunters, orcs and bandits. Our abilities can rival the mighty hunters and we can fight toe to toe with them.

Many rangers, though, are independent almost to a fault, knowing that, when a dragon or a band of orcs attacks, a ranger might be the first—and possibly the last—line of defense.

Thanks to our familiarity with the wilds, we acquire the ability to cast spells that harness nature’s power. Our spells, like our combat abilities, emphasize speed, stealth, and the hunt. A ranger’s talents and abilities are honed with deadly focus on the grim task of protecting the borderlands.

Warriors of the wilderness, we specialize in hunting the monsters that threaten the edges of civilization—humanoid raiders, rampaging beasts and monstrosities, terrible giants, and deadly dragons. We learn to track our quarry as a predator does, moving stealthily through the wilds and hiding ourselves in brush and rubble. We focus our combat training on techniques that are particularly useful against our specific favored foes.

Far from the bustle of cities and towns, past the hedges that shelter the most distant farms from the terrors of the wild, amid the dense-packed trees of trackless forests and across wide and empty plains, rangers keep their unending watch.
