Kai turns around once done taking care of me. I stripped putting on the clean
clothes trying to keep the pants up. On the table I see some rope that Kai
left out. Hopefully he wouldn't need this for anything since it was about to be
a belt. Once done I tap his shoulder again.
"I borrowed the rope. I thought being chubby that these pants
wouldn't fit me or be baggy. You need to invest in some belts or something."
He pats my head some then takes my hand. We left the Inn going back into
town. I watched all the people as we went to a travel place. My eyes widen
when seeing an actual dragon land in front of us. It was so huge that I
couldn't help to stare. The body was elongated with feathered wings. Their
scales shined like metal but looked soft.
"Are we going to ride on one of these?"
I couldn't hide my excitement at the moment. Kai nods, paying the man as
leading the way. We were led to a dragon that had many saddles. Kai put me
in the same saddle as him making sure to hold on tight. A couple more people
came onto the dragon as I glanced back to him. He seemed annoyed at one
of the men who got onto the dragon as well.
Looking over I can see that the man wasn't pleased to see Kai either. Was
there something I was missing?
"Hmm, Can't believe they let filth like you on here. A mutt like yourself
belongs in some gutter rotting away."
Kai just held onto our saddle with his nails digging into his hands. I place my
hands on top of his. This way he would stop him from hurting himself.
Glancing back to the man again I give him an angry look.
"Go to hell asshole. You have no right to speak to Kai that way."
The man started to laugh very hard. He leans a little in his saddle looking to
Kai then me.
"So he has a little primate clan pet now. How sweet you even stick up for
your master. Hate to break your heart but I've got all the right in the
world. Your beloved master is a half breed. Being as I am a full Wolf clan
member he is nothing but filth to me."
If Kai didn't grab me I'd go off on the man more. He leaned his head down to
my ear.
"Don't bother with him. The ride will take a while so just ignore him."
Letting out a defeated sigh I nod in agreement. It didn't take long before the
dragon took off into the air.
It was enthralling but also terrifying at the same time. I'd never been this high
in my entire life. Kai held onto me more as I leaned over the side of the
dragon. The view was breathtaking. Even though the trees and sky are weird
here it was pretty. A few times during the flight the man behind us would
make a snide comment. Kai ignored him making sure I didn't fall off being
stupid. Honestly it would be my luck to fall down and become some mashed
up roadkill. When we got close to the city I couldn't help but to gawk. There
were people flying in the air near us. A few of the people seemed to be
human or at least close to it. When we would get a chance I needed to make
Kai explain the cores. I think he honestly forgot to explain it all to me.
Although it might be something even tiny children in this world know about.
The dragon landed in a big area that had many other dragons. It was a lot
like a bus station or airport in this case. Kai helped me down making sure my
legs wanted to work.
Being honest I felt a little weak after riding for that long. A chubby girl who
didn't like to do much was being forced to do a shit load. Kai picked me up
with one arm putting me on his shoulder.
"Um..I can walk there is no need for this.."
He gave me a look so I shut up. This sucked that I was literally being treated
like a small child. The man who had been giving us grief most of the ride
glared at me. He didn't seem to like anyone showing compassion to Kai.
There had to be some sort of story behind this hatred but it wasn't good for
me to ask. He walked for about fifteen minutes. I was placed on the ground as
he glanced around. Kai leaned down, licking my neck and rubbing his face
into it as well. My brain went haywire from what he was doing. If a human
could turn totally red I'd achieved it. He leans back up laughing while looking
to my face.
"Now none of the people we are about to be near will bother you."
Oh so this was to protect me and not drive me utterly insane. He held my
hand as we walked down the road. This area didn't look to be the easiest
place to survive.
In one of the alley ways I could see a woman being held down by four men. I'd
given up calling them beast or humanoid. Kai gripped my hand pulling me
not to look at her. Was this world that cruel to let people torture others out
in public even? In my head I thought what could I possibly do to help her? If I
tried then Kai would have to save me from those people. No matter how
wrong I felt; just walking away from there was I could do. This world was
going to have me fighting with my own morals. He stopped at a shop where
many people were looking at papers on a board. Leaning up on my tip toes
I'm able to see through Kai and the person next to him. This was a bounty
hunter board. Kai grabbed one of the postings that no one seemed to be
interested in.
"You really got a fucking death wish Mutt. Why do you always pick the
ones that not even the most skilled hunters want to go after?"
Turing my head slightly I can see a leopard man. He was next to the board
almost out of sight. His clothing looked like he was a well off bounty hunter.
Kai pats my head again looking at the man.
"Simple you all are too fucking scared."
Instinctively I gripped onto Kai's arm. The other men didn't look very happy
with his response.
If a fight was going to break out here now that wouldn't be too good. I pulled
on Kai's arm seeing that the men were starting to walk towards us.
"I think we should leave now. You might be alright but I would get killed."
Kai laughs leaning his head down to mine.
"You need to trust yourself more brat. Didn't I tell you, you have a powerful
magic core."
Yeah you said that but never told me anything else you asshole. Sighing I
tugged his arm again which caused our heads to bang.
"I don't care right now. We need to leave."
My voice was more stern than I had planned. Kai raised a brow not realizing
she could speak with such a tone. He glanced back at the men as raising a
hand. The tips of his claws started to shine a bright blue. I could see that all
the men had backed up now looking almost scared. Kai smirked, putting his
hand back down. As we left there was still a feeling of unease in my
stomach.
If this was how he got treated in every place it was really sad.
"So now are you going to explain the core thing to me?"
My voice was still sounding more stern than I wanted. He stopped us in a
back alley where no one could see us. What was he about to do? As I went to
look up he had pulled my chin up slightly.
"Cores are very important in this world. The more powerful the core the
better. Each clan has a legendary core as well. It shows that their power
can't be measured by their clan or even the others. Magic in our world is
even in the air. Most people have a small shape for their core or a dot. Only
those whose body can harness the power are bestowed the blessings of the
marks."
Okay now I was so much more confused than before. Magic is everywhere,
some people have special marks, some are just average, and then the bodies
needed to be compatible. What I didn't understand was how someone not
even from this world could be marked as well?
Before I could get out another question I felt Kai's lips pressed against my
own. He forced his tongue into my mouth. I could taste something sweet but
it almost felt like it was burning my body as well. This heat would drive me
insane if he kept it up. When he pulled back from the kiss I could see some
blood dripping from his lips. Was that sweet burning sensation from his
blood I wondered? My face had to be super red once more as I tried to move
away.
"You could feel it couldn't you? That heat that makes you crave for even
more."
Well he wasn't lying...I wanted more but wouldn't say it. Kai leaned back
down next to my ear. I could feel his warm breath caress my skin.
"You don't have to say anything. I can smell it on you. It makes a person go
wild with desire."
Damn you Kai for being such a smug asshole. He leaned back up laughing
grabbing my hand to follow him again. This was going to either be a living hell
being with him or very interesting.
Over the next month we traveled from place to place. He kept getting
different jobs. Each time he turned in the bounty the officials tried to cheat
him out of the money. It took me a few times to make them realize he wasn't
lying to them. During this time he'd gotten me my own wardrobe. Black
leather pants where the sides laced up with buckles on them. My shirt tied
up the front but went off the shoulders. He had me always wearing a cover to
make sure the core mark couldn't be seen. Sometimes I felt a little ridiculous
in the covering. We were sitting at an outside food vendor eating. I couldn't
help but stare at all the people in this city. Kai told me this was the second
most populated place for primate clan members. He wasn't lying which made
me feel better. It was weird to always be around people who the only thing in
common was our humanoid shape. Don't get me wrong, during this month
I'd met some nice people. The other percent of the time a piece of shit
would've been nicer to speak too.
Kai looked up from his food with an annoyed glint to his eyes. Glancing
behind me, I see some Wolf clansmen walking this direction. They appeared
to be walking to our table. He gave me a look of silence. Letting out a sigh I
just take a sip of my drink annoyed. The men walk next to us stopping. They
glared down to Kai with such disgust that I wanted to throw my plate of food
at them.
"If it isn't the exiled mongrel. What brings you here?"
The one who spoke looked amused seeing me sitting across from Kai.
"Does it really concern you?"
Kai's answer seemed to annoy them. The man next to him threw our table
growling.
"Filth like you doesn't have the right to speak in such a manner. Know
your place mongrel."
Even though Kai told me to be silent this was a little too much for me.
Standing up I give a smile to the men bowing a little.
"Please excuse us? We don't want to have any problems. You see now that
our food is ruined there is no point in staying here with the likes of you."
Kai stood up next to me already baring his fangs at the two men. They
looked me over from top to bottom.
"A primate thinks they can actually stand up to Wolf clansmen who are of
noble blood. You should teach her to stay down. Her place should be on her
back and nothing more."
I grab his hand just smiling looking at the men. Something in me felt like
there was nothing to be afraid of. Kai had been teaching me how to open my
core so maybe that was the reason.
I stood there listening to the growling like a bunch of wild animals. The one
who basically called me a breeding mule started to move forward. My body
felt light as I could see Kai had lifted me up onto his shoulder. A smile came
to my lips feeling a warmth surround our bodies. The wolves backed up
slightly as seeing a glow from my chest.
"What kind of magic core does this wench have?"
Kai smirked just remaining silent. That is when I realized they were feeling
the power of my magic core.
"Answer us right now who this wench is."
I looked down to Kai. He gave me a look telling me to do whatever I wanted.
"My name is Agatha Fox not wench. As for who I really am is none of your
concern. Just to warn you I don't have good control of my magic core yet.
You should probably leave now."
