Just to be clear, the Strings are a small army, but they are so powerful that they would be able to wipe out entire nations overnight if they wanted to. But they're not feared. As far as anyone knows, the strings are eliminating the Automatons and preventing wars between nations so they are very well respected. Being a String immediately sticks you on the high end of society. These students are training to become Strings, so it's a big deal to be at this school.
