The reason 8 students are sent home at the end of the year is for something in the second book, but I wanted it to be clear that not all 8 are forced home. Some realize just how dangerous this life can be and leave by their own free will. I think it's unrealistic to believe that every student would be super gung ho about charging into death, then again, I did write a book about kids with superpowers.
