I did I quick google search in a car of silence and then with a smirk, I knew the perfect place for everyone to blow off some steam and waste a few hours. I put the car into reverse and flicked on the radio.
"Where are we going?" Kenzie broke the silence.
"You'll see," I say.
She raises her eyebrow at me, and Aphrodite also finally looks at me in question. I force a smile for her and she quickly looks away.
"I drive?" Jade says when we pull up to the place.
"Yep, I thought we could all blow off some steam before relaxing at the hotel. So, ladies, do you have your racing license?" I smirked.
The place was a go-kart race track, designed after NASCAR. They let you wear NASCAR like helmets and everything. They also had regular bar food, like pizza and burgers. There was also bowling and some arcade games, but mainly people come here for the go-karts.
We walked inside and I got a deluxe package, basically unlimited everything for everyone.
"Okay race before food or after food?" I ask.
"Before," Skylar says.
"And after," Kenzie adds.
They share a look and smirk.
"Last one there is a rotten egg!" Kenzie called as she ran over to the track.
The place was basically empty as they had just opened up 30 minutes earlier. So we got to go on right away.
"Wait, we should make bets," Aphrodite says.
"Oh? You know better than to bet me." I tease.
"Get ready to eat those words." She teased back.
"Okay, so what's on the line here? It has to be good." Jade says.
"Winner gets to pick their room at the hotel first," I say.
"And the loser?" Skylar ask.
"Loser has to streak naked to the hotel pool." Kenzie quickly said.
We all gave her incredulous looks.
"Oh my god, your faces. Come on, it's not like there will be a lot of people there. I mean how many people go to Disney world mid-September? Not exactly prime Disney time. Unless you're all chicken?" she challenged.
"You're on," I smirked.
"No way I'm doing that," Skylar said.
"Then you better not lose," Aphrodite smirked.
"I don't know, I could think of worse punishments. Seeing you naked, isn't one." Jade teased Skylar.
"Ugh, let's just get this over with." She blushed.
"Alright ladies, pick a helmet and grab your car." An instructor said.
I grabbed the cleanest looking helmet and hopped into the front car. Soon we were all locked and loaded. After brief instruction, we started our cars and I gripped my wheel hard. No way I'm going to lose. I want that master bedroom.
We pulled out of the loading lane and lined up our cars at the starting line. Then after a countdown, we were off.
Let me tell you, I underestimated how fast these cars could go. The track was indoors and well-lit so we didn't have to worry about the sun getting in our eyes.
I was in first place, that is until Kenzie passed me. Then I was tied for second with Aphrodite. Jade and Skylar were tied for last. I punched it and passed Kenzie, but overestimated my breaking space and rammed into the wall. Losing my place and ending up in last by the time I was able to get back on the track.
I narrowed my eyes and once again punched it. I quickly passed Jade and Skylar again and bumped the back of Kenzie's car. She moved out of the way, but overcorrected and hit the sidewall. Falling to last as everyone passed her.
I then was tied with Aphrodite for first. I glanced to my right and she glanced to her left, we locked eyes.
"going down," I gave her a thumbs down.
"We'll see," she called to me.
I teased her by riding really close to her car, so close I could reach over and touch it. Trying to get her to run into the wall. She stayed steady and didn't let up. We were coming up to the last curve, she and I shared a look once more. If she didn't break she would run into the wall. But if I didn't break I would run into her.
I gripped my wheel tighter, pushing the pedal down all the way.
I looked at her as if letting her know it was a risk I was willing to take. She gripped her wheel tighter and also pressed down her pedal all the way.
I cringed as the turn came up, but at the last second, she braked and I passed her taking a sharp turn and nearly turning my car over. But it was worth it as I passed the finish line first. I smiled and let my car slow down and turned just in time to see, Kenzie and Skylar on either side of Jade. All three tied for last. Kenzie and Skylar shared and look and then together slammed Jade's car.
Jade had to break and at the last second, came in last place.
We pulled our cars back into park and got out.
"No fair! You two cheated!" Jade complained.
"Did not, you lost," Kenzie said.
"What the hell, Skylar!" Jade swatted at Skylar.
"Sorry but no way was I going streaking."
"Asshole!" she smacked her in the back.
Skylar laughed.
"Best two out of three!" Jade challenged.
"No way, all results are final," I said as we walked over to a table to eat.
"Skylar!" Jade pouted.
"All results are final." She shrugged.
"I hate you!" She pouted.
"Someone's a sore loser," Aphrodite said.
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one who has to go streaking!"
"Fine, best two out of three, just stop whining." I rolled my eyes.
"But first we eat!" Kenzie declared.
"Jade, come on don't be mad." Skylar smiled and poked her.
"Humph," Jade crossed her arms and turned away from her.
Skylar giggled and poked Jade in the side.
Jade ignored her and marched to the table. Skylar frowned after her.
"Yep, definitely swooning material," I remarked.
I meant to keep it to myself but accidentally said it out loud. Skylar glared at me before quickly jogging after Jade. I sighed.
"What a big baby," Aphrodite grabbed my hand and interlocked our fingers.
"Tell me about it," I smiled at her.
"Um, I'll give you two a moment." Kenzie quickly walked off. I frowned after her but Aphrodite grabbed my chin and forced me to look at her.
I raised my eyebrow at her.
"What was that earlier?" she asked.
"What?"
"We almost kissed. Why did you look at Skylar right after? Did you just do that to get at her?"
"What!? No, of course not. I didn't even know she was coming down."
"But if you did?"
"I don't know, can we just not right now?"
"Why not?"
"I don't want any drama; can't we just go back to being regular friends?"
She frowned and let go of me before taking a step back.
"So tonight then?"
"I don't think it's a good idea," I said.
"Fine, just friends it is." She huffed before walking off.
My heart hurt and I wanted to run after her.
"Wait," I called after her.
She stopped but didn't turn to look at me.
Wait for what? Wait I still have feelings for you? Wait I don't want this to be complicated? Wait, just give me more time?
She turned to look at me but I didn't know what to say.
The way she looks at me like that makes my insides melt. I wrap my arms around myself and try to ignore my insides getting all coiled up over her. She sighed in annoyance before shaking her head and walking to the table.
I stared after her until against my will my eyes fell on Skylar who was death glaring Aphrodite, when she saw me looking, she quickly changed her expression to indifference.
Aphrodite narrowed her eyes at Skylar before plopping into the booth. I slide in next to her.
Jade grumbled to herself something about not knowing what to eat before she wrapped her arm around Skylar's and rested her head on Skylar's shoulder.
Kenzie just let out a loud sigh and basically looked done with all of us, picking up a menu so she wouldn't have to look at us.
I frowned at her; I knew how she felt. I'm starting to think this trip is a bad idea by each passing second. But there is still time to turn this around. Maybe I should just "accidentally" leave everyone else here and Kenzie and I get away. She's like the only normal one here. I must remember to thank her for being so normal, and chastise her for taking Aphrodite's side over mine. She's supposed to keep Aphrodite and me from being all awkward around each other, so far, she has failed at her job.
I glanced at the menu and frowned at all the greasy choices. Then signed and set it down,
"All in favor of just getting pizza?" I asked.
"I," everyone chimed in unison.
Maybe all hope isn't lost just yet. After all, there is still a bet to settle.
