Episode 06, June 4, 2020, Samuels POV
I had been awake for hours already, how many I didn’t know. Whispering his name over and over again, I loved the way his name sounded as it rolled off of my tongue. All I could do was stare at Edans face while he used my arm as a pillow and curled into my chest. His long black hair splayed over his shoulders and back. I couldn’t stop myself from twirling some of the strands with my finger. He was beautiful. I had longed for someone to fill this hole, this loneliness in my chest for so long, and now I feel that this boy can heal me, we can heal each other. I have never felt so afraid in my life than the moment I saw him un that podium crying and begging for his life. I shudder just thinking about it.
That doesn’t matter now though, he’s safe with me and I’ll protect him forever. As I push some of his hair behind his ear gently caressing his cheek with my thumb he starts to stir. He slowly opens his eyes to reveal beautiful green like fresh grass in a clearing. He suddenly pushes himself away from me looking afraid and confused.”Hey no, no, calm down It’s me. Samuel, remember? Last night?” I say in a slow calm voice trying to keep him from panicking. “Oh,” He says quietly. “ I...yes I remember.” He looked at me and smiles, laughing at himself for having forgotten.”Oww…” The boy winced, touching his chest. “Does it hurt badly?” I ask concerned.” No, I’m alright thank you though.” Edan replied.
“Hello, good morning.”The door to the room opened and my cousin Cecilia peaked in with a cheery face. She is one of 3 doctors in our pack and is the one who had helped with Edan last night. The only one who I trust enough to work on him, we have been friends since childhood so I knew she would do a good job stitching him up.”Is it alright if I come in? I brought breakfast~” she said in a sing-song voice. Edan seemed to relax at her cheer fullness even smiling a little. “Ok sooo, I brought you some water, ginger, and honey soup it will be soft on your stomach. “She said to Edan to sweetly.“And, for you, you get eggs and bacon!” she said
Cecilia placed the food on the nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed.” until you get better you’ll be under my care so before you eat let check everything and tell me if there anything I should know.”She gently pulled up his shirt slowly looking over his injuries.” Um… well if that’s the case then, right now in sore , it only hurts when I move. If you are really taking care of me until I get better that I feel I should say that I have an ailment.” “Ailment?”Both Samuel and Cecilia said at the same time. “Yes, an ailment of the lungs. Whenever I overexert myself, get scared, nervous, or sometimes without a case, I can’t breathe. It hasn’t happened in a few months even with everything that’s happened but because of it I can never do anything extreme, and my body is weak.”Edan finished his sentence with a whisper, looking meek and embarrassed. I couldn’t help but feel sad with how uncomfortable he looked telling us that.
It was a weakness after all, which is always hard to speak of. Gently pulling him close to me I said” Don’t be embarrassed its nothing to be ashamed of. It’s part of you and I’m glad you told us so we could be ready just in case.” Cecilia nodded in agreement” Yes, I’m glad you told us. You’re just fine, and I’ve already put painkillers in the soup so don’t worry about it.” she said lowering his shirt. She handed me the tray of food and left with a small wave.
