Robin woke up to the sound of her phone going off, rolling to her side she reached over to her phone and numbly put it up to her ear.
"Hello?" Eyes still encrusted shut with sleep.
"Robin? Sorry to wake you up so early, but I need to tell you something." Robin could hear the frantic tone in Sam's voice and immediately sat up. Ready to get dressed and haul ass if needed.
"What is it? Do you need me to come down?" Robin asked.
"No, I just wanted to tell you I love you, and I'm safe. I'll try to see you again soon." Sam rushed out.
Robin felt her heart drop to her stomach and stood up getting ready to get dressed. "Sam? What's going on?" In the distance, Robin heard a boy's voice yell " We have to go!" Causing Robin to throw on a jacket and start sprinting out her room. Please Sam, tell me you didn't! I warned you! Robin kept her phone up to her ear as she heard Sam speak again.
"I'm going away for a while, but I wanted to hear your voice first." Robin could feel tears running down her cheek as she ran as fast as she could down the flight of stairs. "Sam!" She cried out as she could feel her heart pounding. "Sam please don't do this! Tell me what's going on?!"
Robin heard the click of Sam hanging up and let out a yell of frustration. Reaching Sam's floor, she ran to Sam's room and held up her phone to the scanner by the door. Robin had special access to Sam's room even if she wasn't there, the scanner would be able to tell it was Robin by her phone and let her in.
Bursting in, Robin didn't see Sam, only an empty room filled with Sam's things and the window that led out to the starry night. Robin collapsed to the floor and let out a sob.
Present: 32 hours later
What am I doing here?
Robin thought to herself and she sat on a steel chair all alone. The blonde pixie bitch and her following, overly intense, puppy formerly known as Annie and Don. They picked Robin up from her room a few hours ago and took her beyond the System Floor and into the first Resident Floor 245. It was the highest Robin had ever been, no one was allowed this high, unless you came down from a higher floor. They sat her down on this chair and went into the room across from her. Telling her to wait for them to come out. It had been a few hours since they went into the room.
Based on what Robin could tell it looked like a security floor. Everyone was wearing a guard uniform and armed, not a single normal person around. Robin could feel them giving her the side-eye and it just made her sit up straighter. Screw these guys. Robin just stared ahead and ignored anything else. Show nothing, you know this is about Sam. Protect her and don't crack Just thinking about Sam cracked Robin's heart. She didn't understand how this could happen... not once but twice, and there was nothing she could do.
Left alone with her thoughts, she didn't let anything show as the door finally opened and Annie, with her snake blue eyes, welcomed Robin into the room. The room couldn't be anything other than an interrogation room. There was a table, with three chairs, and a folder neatly placed in the center. The bizarre thing was, that there was no door that could lead anywhere else. It was just a room, three bare walls, and the wall that had the door she entered in. What were they doing all this time?
Don was already sitting at the table with a glare on his face that could make Robin laugh. Big tough guy Sitting down across she felt Annie approach from behind and sit by Don.
"So Miss. Robin, this is the second time we've met recently, eh?" Snarked Annie with a smile on her face.
Trust me, it isn't by my choice! Of course, she didn't say anything out loud and kept a passive face. Don sighed and leaned forward, "Robin, you don't have to say anything but we need you to understand something. We believe Sam is in danger and we need your help to get her back." Robin didn't say anything but did give Don her attention. Annie threw up her hand and leaned back in her chair.
Don opened up the folder and laid out all the contents. "Robin, Did you know there are people living outside the tower?" Robin's eye's widen and she shook her head, "How?"
"Well, we chose Felix because it has livable conditions on the surface, what we didn't take into account was the wildlife and the rare weather."
Annie spoke up quickly after Don, "To make a too-long story short, they are deserters who constantly threaten the tower. Who do you think the Ghost of Archimedes is apart of?" Robin's rage rose at the mention of the ghost, she could still feel the loss of her parents as if it was yesterday. Annie smirked, "Oh that's right, you've been personally affected by the ghost."
Robin glared at Annie. Bitch. "What do you want from me? I've had one hell of a few weeks and I just want to be left alone." Don gave a lopsided frown. "As I said, Sam's in danger and we think only you can bring her back."
"And why would that be?"
"We fear the ghost will use her knowledge to harm the tower. She had intimate knowledge of the power engines correct?"
"Well yeah, but she wouldn't do anything to harm the tower. She's not like that."
Annie scoffed, "We know that, but she is easily swayed is she not? Just look how quick she ran off with that boy. The boy who is from the outside and somehow got inside the tower." Don spoke up right after, "You knew about the boy beforehand, didn't you? You also spoke to Sam right before she left."
Robin looked at both of them in surprise. Don looked at her face and smiled, "We know a lot more than most think we do."
"Then why do you need me?"
"Because we're hoping to educate you, offer you a job beyond anything you've been apart of before, and get your... sister... back." Said Annie putting sister in air quotes.
"Job?" Asked Robin, trying desperately to not snap at Annie.
"Yes," spoke up Don. "You would be well paid, enough to move up to The Residents floor along with Sam. IF we succeed in getting her back. We'll train you and everything but we feel Sam would only listen if she heard it coming from you. We know she doesn't trust us, I mean, I'm sure you can understand why she wouldn't Annie." He said with a snicker, "And she threw a wrench at me, so, I'd count me out."
"Will I get the opportunity to take down the ghost?" Robin asked.
Annies eyebrows shot up and gave a wide smile. "Indeed, if you want."
"And we'll bring back Sam? Alive?"
Don nodded his head, "We'll do everything in our power to bring her back in healthy condition."
"Ok, then yes. I'll take the job."
It's a rough world out there, got to take every opportunity to climb out of the hell hole.
