From the corner of his eyes Shiki could see how Kenzie stuck out her tongue at him and he grinned at her. They walked calmly along the street and Shiki could see their reflections in the windows as they passed by. Kenzie in her black dress and hair nicely done up, and himself in dark jeans and Demonia knee high platforms. Even his red hair could be seen, teased with spikes at the back and straight down in the front and sides, with a pair of goggles over his forehead. Kenzie held her gaze forward while they walked, and she seemed most interested in getting to the pizzeria.
When they got to the pizzeria Shiki held the door for Kenzie, to let her go in first. As they got inside it was clear that the most of their classmates were already there. Lillian waved welcomingly and everyone looked at them. His roommate, that new guy, was sitting on the table with his feet on a chair, but Shiki couldn’t care less about it. However, his brown gaze stopped on the tiara in Caiden’s hair.
“Best spot, princess?”
Shiki walked over to Caiden and sat down on the chair next to him, and without any hesitation he put his own feet on the same chair as Caiden’s, looking up to him. To his surprise he could see the same kind of teasing smile on his lips too.
“Oh yeah, couldn’t be better.”
Apparently Caiden didn’t care if he tried to make fun of him. Shiki couldn’t help it, he liked teasing people. And it was the most fun when they got back at him for it. He could tell from the reactions what kind of person someone was, and Caiden was the fun kind. Maybe not yet, but he was going to be, and Shiki didn’t want to scare him off, so instead of teasing him more, he left him alone. His brown eyes slid over the room to look at the others. Kenzie had sat down next to Lillian and on the other side of Lillian was the new girl. Pauline, or something like that? The three girls were in some kind of conversation.
“May I ask where you’re from?” Caiden asked.
Smiling, Shiki turned back his gaze to him. “Isn’t that obvious?”
“Not really, I guess. You don’t exactly have a strong accent.”
“Tokyo.” Shiki said it with the thickest accent simply because he could and grinned at Caiden.
“So, tell me, Shiki… If I ever go to Tokyo, what should I not miss?” Caiden said with a smile.
For a couple of seconds Shiki wasn’t sure if it was an honest question or if Caiden was teasing with him. Was he really curious about Tokyo and wanted an honest answer? It seemed like it. Caiden was the only one, except Kenzie, who had asked him anything about it. Shiki couldn’t remember talking much about his home country with anyone here.
“Real sushi, real Japanese food.”
