With his head resting on his hand Yuuto yawned in the middle of class. Mr. Hazaki was explaining what magic energy was.
Who here doesn’t know what magic energy is? We all passed the entrance exam. There is no way you could do that without being able to use magic. So why is he bothering to explain it like none of us have ever dealt with magic before? I mean serious what in the world is going on. I wanna learn how to better utilize my abilities. Man, if I knew things were gonna be like this I might have just finished the rest of my training with…
A gloomy look went across his face almost like he was sick.
“I don’t even wanna think about that bastard.” He mumbled to himself.
“So in conclusion. Magic is used by accessing the magic energy that we harbor within ourselves. As well as the ambient magical energy that exist in the world around us. Typically when invoking a strong spell a magician needs to gather energy. All spells have a set amount of energy that is required. There are a variety of magical abilities that can be used without casting spells as well.”
“Mr. Hazaki what about magic that requires an incantation.”
“Good question Goh.” Magic that requires an incantation takes a larger quantity of magical energy and usually does something let’s say grand. For example, a spell with an incantation can create a powerful barrier, summon a magical beast, Even affect reality. These same feats can be done without an incantation but on a much smaller scale. Here lemme give you a visual aid.”
With a wave of his an iron box appeared in front of Mr. Hazaki. It was three feet in length and width. Pointing his palm at the box caused it to float a few inches off the ground.
“Now pay close attention. Lift up, be as light as feather. Now soar.”
A green aura surround the box just for a moment before it floated to the ceiling. The box stayed there for a moment before Mr. Hazaki waved it away.
“Wow that was really impressive. Can you use any elemental magic?”
“Elementia, Elemental magic will be discussed at a later period.”
Yuuto sighed before glancing around the classroom.
Incantations and Elementia. I need to learn how to properly use regular magic before I can try any with incantations. That probably goes double for elemental magic. Hey I wonder if Mr. Hazaki would let us practice that spell he just cast. Then again, it’s probably a safer idea for me to practice by myself. Oh man this is beginning to become a real drag I’m not too sure if I thought this all the way through enough. Considering the alternative this is my best bet to get stronger. I wonder if there’s a faster way. No, no I can’t just neglect the basics I’ll be screwed otherwise.
Slightly unsure if he wanted to ask a question Yuuto raised his hand.
“Yes, Yuuto.”
“Other than some of the teachers coming in and doing introductions we haven’t done much in class. I was wondering when we would get in any practical training.”
“Yeah.”
“When are we gonna do actually training?”
“Here, here.”
Mr. Hazaki raked his hand through his hair pushing it to one side. He threw his head to the side throwing his hair back to its original position.
“It’s not just your class that hasn’t started any practical train. But the entire first year. Those of you who will be staying will be doing more hands on training soon enough. Until then it’s the basics.”
Did he just say those of you who will be staying?
“Mr. Hazaki did you just…”
Senji was interrupted by the fact Mr. Hazaki had pointed his hand in his direction as if to stop him from speaking.
“Sorry, sorry I slipped up back there.”
“You sure about that Mr. Hazaki. The Great Magician doesn’t seem to agree with you.” Meiji mocked.
His fellow cronies laughed while Senji looked dejected, Yuuto glanced to the right noticing that Senji’s glasses were still cracked. Mr. Hazaki just shot Meiji a look and he and his friends stopped laughing. Not too long after that class ended, just like the first day Yuuto waited until everyone left before he got up to leave. His hand grabbed at his bag just as he began getting up.
“Yo, Yuuto. I meant to do this during class. But do you wanna hear your personality quiz results?”
With a look that wasn’t quite indifference he just stared at Mr. Hazaki.
“A wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
“Excuse me. What?”
“You hide yourself. For what reason I’m not sure. But you’re capable of a lot more than you let on.”
A smug grin when across Yuuto’s face. He walked toward Mr. Hazaki calmly then went passed him saying.
“You know what. I don’t think anyone can actually get that as a result for a personality test.”
Unbeknownst to him he had left his bag behind while he headed home. Yuuto stewed over Mr. Hazaki’s words slightly annoyed that he had attempted to probe him for information.

Just to the right of the eastern half of the school building was a storage shed. This shed in particular housed nothing of any real interest except for one Senji Yatsu. Hiding away from Meiji and his friends, Senji began making preparations. He knew they would find him here soon enough but he wasn’t too worried, he had a surprise in store for them. Today the teasing and mockery would end.
“Oh Great Magician. Come out, come out, where ever you are.”
“Where are you? Don’t you want to play with your buddies anymore?”
“Yeah, Mr. Great and powerful magician. Sun and Jet have been telling me how much they wanna hang out with you. You wouldn’t wanna keep them waiting would you?”
The calls of Meiji and his friends only sharpened Senji’s resolve. Out of his back pocket Senji pulled out a small knife opened it up and pressed it against his hand. Unsteady the knife hand shook as Senji moved it across his hand. Blood began running from the open wound, dripping on the brown orb. The orb started to glow faintly but it wasn’t enough so with a dark determination Senji placed his bleeding hand atop the orb.
The blood flowed unnaturally into the orb than stopped once the orb had drank its fill.
“I offer up my blood as payment. To the world beyond. I summon you a might force to strike terror into my foes. Come forth, come forth and take form!”
The carvings on the orb began glowing purple while at the same time a dark almost black crimson liquid began seeping out. The liquid pooled just to the side of the orb then started to expand before taking shape. In a matter of moments, a humanoid figure formed but then quickly became more bestial in appearance. Its face resemble that of a lizards, its skin and hair were dark. Its eyes were pitch black.
“Something’s going on in the shed.”
“I think the great magician is in there.”
“Well then, let’s see for ourselves.”
Meiji and his cronies approached the shed. The side wall and a portion of the front of the shed suddenly collapsed as a growing creature emerged. The creature took a few steps forward while Meiji and his friends took a few back. Senji emerged from the broken shed barely making eye contact with the others.
“Kekeke Kaaaaaahh.” The creature bellowed.
At first Meiji, Jet and Sun, were too scared to move that was until the creature swiped at them nearly taking off their heads. As if whatever had frozen them in place had vanished the three started to run while the creature followed after them.
“That’s enough. You don’t need to follow after them.”
The creature moved forward ignoring Senji’s command.
“I said that’s enough. You just needed to scare them. I don’t want to hurt them so stop.”
Even though Senji had ordered the creature to stop it still attacked Meiji hitting him to the ground. It was then Senji realized he had made a mistake he couldn’t control this creature. Which meant that Meiji and his friends were in real danger.
“Run, you guys have to run. It won’t listen to me.” Senji yelled as he followed after the beast he had summoned.
