After a drive that lasted a little under an hour, plus a quick stop at a fast-food place to get fill her stomach up for a few hours, she arrived at Chainhurst Hospital as the sun was close to set for the day. Or at least its gate, or what's left of it as it was rusted and had vines and other shrubbery coiled all around it from the overgrown hedges that surrounded the gate and premise like a castle's moat. Beyond the decaying barrier was the massive hospital ruins itself, it too surrounded by overgrown plants and trees that shrouded it from civilization. From afar inside her car, the building itself was decayed as the exterior of its brick walls stained in shades of brown and all the windows seem to be boarded up. Next to the gate is what Jessie would imagine being the guard post for it, a little wooden box for someone to sit in and control the gate for whenever people come or leave.
Jessie gets out of her car and investigates the guard post, it's wooden walls rotten away and she fears that it might collapse on her if she tries to get inside. But there is a window with the glass that is broken into sharp spikes that she can peek in. seeing what's left of what would have been the guard's desk, which is now broken into 2 pieces and leaning inwards with moldy papers scattered all over the floor. And the walls show signs of water damage with large mold stains on them, and she sees the little device that would have controlled the gate. But Jessie figured it probably hasn't been functioning for a long time and would be no use to try it out.
A little disgruntled, she goes up to the gate and grabs onto the bars of it and jiggles it around. It didn't move at first but trying again with all her might and struggling, she's able to pop it out of place and now can jiggle it around but still fastened with all the thick vines gripping it. It was as if the plants themselves don't want anyone to enter this damned place, but Jessie wasn't going to be foiled by a bunch of dumb plants.
Remembering something, she goes into her car again but this time to the front passenger side and opens the glove compartment and grabs her knife. It's a 5-inch buck knife and she pulls the sharp blade out. Going back to the gate with her tool, she starts cutting the vines that held the gate for so long. Taking longer than she would like, she gets enough off to where she can open the gate and finally enter the property. She folds her knife and puts into one of her pouches on her hips and opens the gate, still hard due to the rust but opens all the way with enough force.
With the gate now open after so long being shut, Jessie gets back into her jeep and drives up the driveway that's now covered in dirt, until she's now near the building. She drives around to see if there's anywhere she can hide her car just in case there's security patrolling the place, which so far most spots are out in the open. Driving around more the property in search of a spot, she notices how ruined the yard is. The grass is tall, trash and scrap metal litter all over it, but there is a decent place for her to park underneath some outreaching foliage that her car could fit and hide under. She parks under the shrouding branches, perfect too that her jeep is a dark green color to match the plants surrounds it.
She gets out of her car and enjoys the evening sky in its shade of yellow and red as the sun sets and the cool breeze grazes her. She takes a deep breath in, taking in the energy of nature of the ruins in front of her as she savors the feel of this nice evening. After this small moment of taking in the surroundings, she moves to the back of it and gets herself ready for the night. In the back she has supplies she uses while exploring, and having in her inventory is a large purple flashlight that is made of metal and is heavy to wield, batteries for it just in case, a respirator just in case coming in mold or any other toxins in the air that old buildings may produce, a water bottle and some chocolate chip granola bars if she needs a snack, her knife for defense or she just needs to cut something, and finally her iPhone and checked that it is fully charged. With checking her gear and again once last time to make sure everything is good and working order, she puts it into her pouches she heads off to the hospital.
Standing at the entrance of the venerable building, imposing in front of her like a rotting colossus that is seeking to intimidate its small prey. But to Jessie, this is just another building that people have forgotten long ago and trapped in its time, and she's eager to explore and discover it's secrets. The front door is nailed shut with plenty of wooden boards obstructing the door, and Jessie certainly doesn't have the strength to rip them off nor any tools at her disposal to do so.
"Damn it, I'm buying a crowbar before I go to the next place." Jessie muttered to herself to make a mental note as she crosses her arms and looks around to see if there's anywhere else to enter.
She goes around the building to find another entrance, she does find several doors but they too are all boarded up. Going around the premise several times and scouring for anything that looked like a way in, but all the doors covered up with massive boards. Jessie amused herself if this was either keep people out or to keep something in, maybe there was a monster inside she humored the idea. The same was true for most of the windows as well, most of them were boarded up and obscuring the interior from viewers on the outside world. But those that weren't had sharply broken and jagged glass that guarded them and would slice flesh with ease if Jessie tried to climb in. However, is was one window that was not boarded or had razor-sharp glass lining them, but the only problem was it was on the second floor. Jessie sighed to herself.
"Well fuck, am I ever gonna be able to enter this place?" Jessie grumbled to herself, hoping that this isn't where her exploration trip is going to end.
But Jessie isn't one to back out or quit now, this was nothing but just another obstacle she would have to overcome and she was still up for the challenge as she reassured herself. She did remember seeing what appeared to be a shed that probably was used for maintenance while she drove around, maybe there is a crowbar or something to help in there. She goes back to the shed, the little building is made of rusty metal and seems a lot sturdier than the feeble box that was the guard post. Going up to it, it looks more like the type of shed a gardener or laborer would use to keep their tools in. So Jessie had hopes of finding her tool to help break-in.
But the door was locked with a latch lock that needed a key. A key that someone that probably took with them when the place closed down and is lost in time, certainly Jessie wasn't going to find it lying around.
"I really need to bring some heavy-duty shit with me." Jessie is a bit frustrated with this new issue but accepts the challenge.
She goes around the shed and looks through the tiny window that's way too small for her to fit in, but due to the sun going down there was little light to see inside. She pulls out and shines her flashlight into the window and sees plenty of old and rusting gardening tools, but sees a ladder that could help to that one window as it seemed long enough for her to reach the window. But needed to figure out a way to get into the shed to get said ladder. But looking in a bit more she does see an aged bolt cutter on the floor, perfect to break the lock on the door. But she can't lean in and reach it, she's gonna need something to pull it up with. Time to search around again, for something to help get the items that she needs only just out of reach.
Walking away from the shed and into what was left of the garden, which is now an overgrown thick mess of plants and flowers that were there to decorate the outside. The plant life almost reaching to her waist and had long vines on the ground that became tripping hazards. Looking around she sees a few large trees that we're able to grow freely without restraint, she sees an old rope freely hanging off of a tree branch. She walks up to it and investigates it, worried that it might be a noose. Fitting in with the history of the place, maybe for a patient wanted to end his misery or a staff member repenting for their crimes Jessie thought to herself.
Thankfully it wasn't, just a long and loose rope that was splayed out on the ends. But Jessie looked at the ground around it to make sure there wasn't a skeleton on the ground if the body fell when the rope couldn't hold it. With no corpse or human remains to be seen, Jessie decides to take it but had a bad feeling if it really was a noose and she's messing with it. But there's no evidence it was so there's probably nothing for her to worry about but the feeling didn't quite shake off, hoping she wouldn't anger a ghost or something. It was a bit higher than she is tall but a simple jump allowed her to grab it and pull it off of the tree and it slithered off of the branch. The rope was dry and had a dusty texture to it, but should hope to drag the cutters out of the window.
She goes back to the shed and on her way she ironically ties on the end of the rope to be a loop, which will help grab the tool. With her new lasso, she tosses it through the window, with the loop landing a bit too far from the bolt cutter so she drags back a little as if she was fishing. She did catch the tool but wasn't able to hold on for long as it slipped out and falls back onto the floor, and after a few more tries to was able to snag onto it firmly and was able to pull it out of the window like a fish out of water.
With her newly collected tool, she goes to the doors of the shed and cuts it open. Excited to get the ladder, she grabs it and takes it out of the shed and goes back to the side of the building with the open window. The ladder was heavy, rusty, and slowed her down quite a bit but didn't stop her now. She gets to the wall and extends the ladder and folds it out and settles in next to where it will lead her to the window. It didn't quite reach it, but with Jessie tall hight will allow her to enter it if she stood up on the top.
After some maneuvering the ladder around to have it stay secure, Jessie starts to climb. The ladder certainly showed off its age with its creaks from every step she took, making her a little nervous seeing how far up she has to go and maybe regretting entering in this way. While the ladder feels like it could hold her, it didn't help make the climb up a bit frighting. Reaching the top, she takes a few deep breathes and she stands on the second step from the tallest point and trying her best not to look down. She starts to hum a soft tune to herself and keeps her eyes up so she doesn't start freaking out from how high up she is on an old ladder. She grabs onto the window still and pulls half of herself inside, but her heavy boot got snagged and she tries to shake it free.
She does get her foot free, but as she drags herself inside she hears something that sounds like a tree falling right outside and a heavy thump. standing up and now inside the dark building, she checks out of the window and sees that the ladder fell over. She curses to herself, but she's now inside finally. She will now have to find another way out, but now its time to look around the place.
