Chapter: 2 - Nature’s dominant species.

Chapter: 2 - Nature’s dominant species.

Jun 16, 2020

I go check on the trap I worked on, since I have something to defend myself with I should be fine. Although I have no training with a sword… I should be fine, all I do is swing it left and right how hard can that be.

Gulp* swallowing my saliva, as I imagine the taste of meat. It's perfect timing, too. All this preparation made me hungry. Strolling around I see from a distance that something triggered my trap. Excitedly I go to check on my bounty.

When I got there however, it was not something I could hope to consume as food.

Hiding in the bushes I observed what the creature looked like. Barely visible to my eye I can only see that the creature was about my size.

Violently shaking off the snare trap it makes a cry for help, Awhoooo~!!!”

As soon as it howled, everything seemed to have gone quiet. Darn it, I can barely see anything while hiding in this bush. When the entire forest came into a pause, the ground suddenly started trembling. I can hear the pounding of feet storming into this direction. No I can also hear, arms pounding as well. Bipedal? If there is such a creature who walks on feet and arms, then it can only mean one thing…the remaining primate species.

Would that mean my trap was triggered by a primate? That can’t be I made sure to make it lar-....

I had a sudden realization. The only thing that could trigger such a wide rope. Would have to be a primate with large feet and hands. In conclusion...were the gorillas.

Oh, crap! I just pissed off a horde of gorillas. Wait with my clothes blending in with the bush. I don’t think they will be able to notice me, maybe…

I’d get out of here as soon as possible, but...

It’s too late they are here.

A few of the huge apes came and looked at the one stuck in the tree. So huge. The one that triggered my trap is so tiny compared to those oversized apes.

I see one of the apes lowering its fingers and swiftly cutting the string snare trap like it was grass. Soon as one of the gorillas sniffed the rope, my eyes widened.

Not because of their size, or that I was at death's door. It was the fact that they could speak.

The one ape holding onto the rope spoke as I watched, “This long rope...only a human could have made this.”

One among them spoke out loud. “That's impossible, all humans are no more.”

“Maybe it has been placed here a long time ago, until Kiau stepped on it?”

Looking at the smallest ape presumably to be Kiau. The young ape spoke, “i-it it was a human who made this!”

Groah* Another gorilla from the trees jumped down, “The humans are no more Kiau, stop being a child believing in fairy tales told by the elders.”

Kiau tried to protest his statement, “But I did see a-”

Smack* The larger gorilla went in front of Kiau’s face and pushed him to the trees.

“What did we just say, there are no such things as humans anymore...there were humans that existed a long time ago, but they were all wiped out because they were weak.”

A whimpering crying Kiau can be heard “Y-yes father…”

“Good now let's go.”

All the gorillas followed the largest one, as they left the tree began to become bent like it was a small twig that snapped.

I just watched in amazement with the development of the situation that happened so far. Too captivated to move, just continually observing them. In fact too captivated for my own good, I can see the tiny gorilla looking back in my direction as if he knew I was there.

I should leave....

Would like to obtain more data on those talking gorillas, but it’s getting late. Making an analyzed hypothesis when I returned to camp was all I could do.

When I came back, I went to scavenge for paper in the broken facility near me. I hurriedly looked at every part that I can. Each scurrying I did I could only find torn or wet paper. I searched for a while only to find a few papers inside what looks to be a desk compartment, blank too.

Even a ballpoint pen was inside it too. “This is great”, I thought to myself.

I started the fire and drank the liquid that I started out with. I grabbed a folder clipboard and started to write.

Being the last of my kind to exist. I will report my experiences and findings along the way. Having found a report by a man called a scientist that stated the end of Man was caused due to radiation.

The wild animals seem to if not all have become unaffected by the radiation that presumably killed all humans. Surviving species must have had a stronger resistance, therefore due to constant exposure over time. The surviving creatures must have mutated due to the chemical levels from the radiation. Hence, if talking gorillas could communicate using human languages, then there must’ve been a taught gorilla by humans that survived. Teaching their offspring the human language. A mutation must have happened to their brains, allowing the ability to easily understand the “human tongue”. If my theory is wrong, that a gorilla my kind taught years ago indeed survived, and spread its knowledge to their brethren. Then I will have to say it is mother nature’s work at hand.

I will also believe that all the animals have become mutated and somewhat at the intelligence of humans.

End of report from,

The last human

That should be enough for tonight. I wrote whatever I can think of. “Haha” I sigh…

After finishing my last thought I put out the fire and went to sleep.

Chapter 2 End
