“HuaAgH~! Sniff* sniff*” a crying roar can be heard. A man can be heard, shedding tears for this lifeless figure, opening my eyes it seemed as though I am that man. This dream is so hazy I can't find myself to find out the face of the person I seem to be holding. All I knew was that I was extremely attached to this person. Suddenly I hear bows stringing arrows in my direction. Letting go of the deceased person, I ran after them and I moved erratically. I pull out my weapon and begin stabbing the nearest enemy closest to me.
Shing~ pulling out the sword as fast I could from the corpse, I deflected the oncoming arrow coming for my head.
Throwing my blade at the attacker, I then grab the dead archers bow next to me. Shooting a few arrows then throwing away the bow as soon as a few of the enemies were shot dead. Running up to pick up my weapon, a million arrows came raining down at me with great velocity. Preparing myself I swing my weapon, splitting each arrow in half that reached me.
Running up to the dead body, I held the corpse against me using it as a shield. Casting can be heard.
“Hmn~shumng-, sikyas~” Ridding the dead body, I ran towards the casters. Each spell that came at me nearly grazed me, they were deadly. Before I could get to them, a shadowy figure intercepted my advancement. Pulling out its Great mace, it swung from a distance. I let the chain go over range and grabbed hold of it. Pulling in the chain it gave the user a disadvantage when I was near the person. Before I could strike, another shadowy figure came to stop me from ending their allies' life by punching at me. Letting go I prevent myself from getting touched. Holding their fists together, they readied their weapon which was a gauntlet that was twice their size. Recovering from the impending doom I was about to give the mace warrior. Both came at me. The battle ensued. Nearly avoiding both strikes of the gauntlet warrior, while the mace warrior fought from a safe distance was no easy task for me. I just kept dodging and dodging. However, with the repetitiveness I trapped the gauntlet user with their own allies chain. By circling around I wrapped both with ease. Before the trap could be set, I leapt into the air, causing the mace warrior to pull back the chain.
Alas they didn't realize that they were caught in their own attacks, until it was too late. Before I could end their lives, I was struck by multiple spears when I was in the sky. Falling down, I looked at the people who threw them at me. In fact all the spears were from one person. Staring at the lance user, he held his hands out, procuring a spear from thin air. Readying his aim, he made a hole in my left chest in an instance. With my heart gone, I fall to the ground. My life has ended.
Gasping from my dream. “Huhhh~!” I woke up grabbing a hold of my chest. Oh thank god I thought I was done for.
“What’s the matter, human?” Ki u asked me as he was still on all fours.
“No-nothing....” I said in a frantic panic, while wiping my own saliva from my mouth.
Ki u kept quiet as to save his stamina since he was still running.
It was beginning to get dark soon. Ki u climbed onto a tree.. Grabbing me from his shoulder he laid down while making sure I’m gently placed in a surface area with good footing.
“We rest here for now...pant* pant*” Ki u was indeed tired from all this running.
“Alright then” I replied.
I go to the edge of the tree to make sure I’m sleeping upright.
I could see the stars in the sky. Back where I was, all I could see were clouds. Making sure my sword was next to my chest I went to sleep.
Across from each other I can see each of the apes sleeping at a fixed distance to alert each other if something happens.
“Human, it is me Ki u. Are you still asleep?”
I replied, “almost…”
Relaxing his head with his hands.
“I pray for your safety after I bring you there…” Ki u can be heard whispering to me.
“It’s ok I’ll figure something out.” Pointing to my sword and dagger.
“Hehe. I see you prepared yourself well. It is just that we apes look out for each other...The furthest I have gone are to the rock lizards and only whatever I could encounter near the trees.”
“I-I believe your elder wouldn’t put my life at risk.”
Laughing silently “Hehe ofcourse, elder Jabula would never put anyone’s life in danger. Did you know that Jabula lied when he said a long time ago one of our elders prophesied that a human would one day come?”
“Oh…?” Looking confused at Ki u.
“There were no elders before Jabula. He has existed since the day he was born, as all the rest of the elders...well you only met Jabula. Anyway about Jabula, he was said to have the ability of foresight.”
“That’s interesting, why didn’t he be honest at the start?” surprised to learn about this I listen more.
Ki u spoke even more, “Well...it would have to do with the children. If they all started learning of great Jabulas foresight ability they would start asking for guidance from Jabula himself. We apes are visibly strong, our furs as hard as steel, but soft, our tremendous size, our natural strength and speed. What would happen if a bunch of children learned of their fate? Why, they would panic and lose all meaning in surviving.”
I am a little shocked to hear this. “Actually I want to get back to the topic human.”
“After Kiau and you slept. I went back to elder Jibalu as he secretly gestured me to. There he told me everything that you might encounter.”
Recalling Jabulas words he spoke “Once you bring him near the buildings that can almost reach to the moon. That human will face many creatures. Tentacle spikes that can tear his throat and body in a million ways. Dogs who travel in packs, that will want to tear him from limb from limb. Plants who will gouge out every soft opening that can be felt from his body. And…” he gave a long pause. “Other gorillaz who are still in their wild state relying on instincts alone. I am worried for you human. Any other of my kind that came to see you would not see you as a threat. But in that area, I fear you will not make it.”
“I will be fine. Now please, tell me everything I need to know.”
All night Ki u explained to me all of the creatures that might be there. Including traps that are possibly laid out by each creature he could that would be threatening. I took note of every last one of them. He is doing this last favor for me because he knows that our little journey will be coming to an end shortly.
With all of this talk last night, I used the time on Ki u’s back sleeping when we traveled.
Weird? It’s going dark again. oh no am I dreaming again? I can see a path! “Run” is that Ki u?
“Ki u!! Where are you!?!” I look around and I can hear growling. On my feet I hear the sounds of Plant vines slithering nearby. “Run” I heard his voice again. Going towards the noise where the path was bringing me to. “Run!” it got louder, I can see the light shining. I keep going. “Jump” I heard Ki u say in my dream. Next thing I knew a pit of tentacle spikes can be seen dangling at the bottom. “Jump” I made a leap, and made the jump. “Run” As soon I heard it I ran like hell again. “Dodge!” I saw plants swinging their vines in my direction. I moved to the side and sled down a slope that would help me out. “Don’t fight, run” I was taking a fighting stance against what looked to be gorillas. As soon as I heard those words, I ran away. I just kept running. This path was just bringing me to the unknown oblivion. I feel like I lost my sense of time here. Where even am I? Will I get to leave this place anytime? I can’t take it anymore… “Eat” presented to me was a carcass of a dead animal near me. With no fire to prepare it, I was forced to just gulp it down raw. As soon as I consumed it I vomited after eating a few bites. Spending an entirety in this world I have lost my sanity. But when I kept persisting I finally made it out through the comfort of that light.
“Uhhh...hey Ki u he seemed to have knocked out cold. Was that mushroom cloud pollen that strong to put him to sleep?”
Coming to consciousness. I screamed as soon as I saw Jikul, one of the apes' names face up close to me.
“It would seem not entirely.” Ki u said.
“Human...it is time” as soon as he said that I was presented with an enormous skyscraper.
“I have done all I can. The rest is up to you.”
“May you have a safe trip.” As he grabbed me down gently from his shoulders.
I bowed to all of them, “Thank you. Thank you all so much...you all have done so much for me.”
Each of the gorillas pound their chest.
“Our duty is fulfilled, it was our pleasure to witness the first human in a long time.”
Ki u continued watching me as his jungle brothers started to depart.
“Take care...human.”
“Likewise...go easy on Kiau.”
Embarrassingly scratching his head,
“Eheheh, I don’t have a clue as to what you are implying to.” This time he spoke seriously
“You will no longer be in my care, so be extra careful while in there.”
Turning back to him smiling, “If I don’t make it out unscathed, then I don’t deserve to live. Survival of the fittest after all.”
Ki u just stared at me slowly disappearing into the darkness as I entered it.
Taking a gander at the torn skyscraper, I gave myself courage to enter the building. Into the depth of what lies in that city, I disappeared from Ki u’s eyes.
The final words uttered by the last human. “Survival of the fittest”
