“A car accident… sort of.”
“What happened?” Konya asked, turning like he wasn’t really all that interested.
Dareka shrugged, looking down. “I had a big exam the next day. I stayed up studying a lot of the night in the 24-hour library on campus. There was a party that night and when driving home… I was tired and hungry and just wanted to get home and sleep.”
Konya lifted his eyes slowly, turning to look at the angel.
“At an intersection, I was going straight and the car coming was turning right.” Dareka nodded. “They came from that party all drunk. They went to make their turn and were speeding… Lost control of their car and it just went slam right into mine.”
Konya blinked, listening intently.
“I heard… I could hear my heart beat and feel blood coming from my left arm and my forehead.” Dareka nodded. “I heard the passengers of the other guy’s car get out and one was on her cellphone calling the ambulance. After a moment I heard the driver get out and he came over to my passenger door. But, I always have it locked…”
The blond’s lips parted a bit slowly to say something.
