Konya stopped by a cabinet, “Okay. We get to go through each of these files until we find yours.”
“Files?”
Konya pointed at a drawer, “From K-23 to L-4 over there. Those are the deaths from the month you died.”
Dareka stared. He was shocked, and grew only more numb as he saw Konya yank out a drawer and plop a stack of files on the ground and then another stack, and yet another, until the drawer was empty.
“Start looking,” he ordered and sat down to look through his stacks.
Dareka sighed and began to look through the stacks.
Hours passed, and eventually Konya got up and left to eat while Dareka kept looking. An hour later, Konya returned to help looking some more.
More hours, more drawers and one by one the drawers were searched.
By the time they were halfway done, Konya lifted a file and read through it.
“Hey, Dareka.” He said, straightening up with the file in hand, “I found your…” He trailed off seeing the sleeping angel on a pile of files, looking so peaceful. “…File.”
Konya looked at the file, narrowing his eyes as he thought. With silent footsteps, Konya got up with the file and went around to the M-7 drawer, plopping the file into the far back.
Then, as if he’d done nothing, Konya returned to look through the files.
