i tried to pull apart my strings

as i listened to him sing

eyes drawn to his voice

fingers lost from the noise

when the last note lands

i suddenly looked at my hands

all my efforts led to naught

all i saw was a thousand knots

fingers interlaced with his

promises of do, re, and mis

i succumbed to the melody

unable to unweave myself free

perhaps his sirenlike words

with my heart’s impossible chords

lulled my mind to count the sheep

and made the loops begin to creep

call it brave or call it luck

i fought to dance myself unstuck

twirled away from an encore’s beat

and closed my ears from its repeat
