In the eastern half of the school, five students Yuuto, Senji, Meiji, Jet, and Sun swept the outside of one of the school’s storage sheds. Yuuto and the others swept in silence while Senji whistles a tune.
“Seriously we have to do this for three weeks. I get the Great Magician but what did we do?”
“Yeah, this is complete bullcrap we should complain to Mr. Hazaki or something.”
“No, we should strike, strike. Strike. Strike I say.” Jet whined.
Yuuto shook his head side to side without looking away from his broom. Senji continued whistling. While Sun motioned with his broom like he was going to hit the back of Senji’s head. Senji looked up and Sun resumed sweeping and begun whistling.
“So what’s next after this?” Meiji asked.
Senji stopped whistling and paused for a moment before turning toward Meiji, he pointed at the pieces of stone that lay on the ground by the damaged entrance to the shed.
“We’re supposed to move those to the trash. But it’s on the other side of school. So it might take a while. Then we have to carry the boxes from here and put them in the storage shed which is also on the other side of the school. I’m guessing we have to fix the wall as well.”
Meiji leans on his broom then nods his head before pointing a finger at Senji.
“You have to fix the wall! You’re the asshole who broke it in the first place.”
“The boss is right. If it wasn’t for you and that lizard thing we wouldn’t be here in the first place. Damn it those disciplinary committee bastards think this is funny.”
Yuuto grabbed his broom and walked toward the shed by walking past Sun first. Sun takes a step back and grips the broom like he’s prepared to fight.
“Hey, idiots you mind keeping it down. I don’t wanna have to clean this mess and hear you guys whine. It’s grating to the ears you know.”
“Who you call an idiot you punk. You….”
“The idiots of courses. Anyway the faster we finish up the sooner we can get going. I don’t know about you guys but I’m getting hungry so let’s work on getting out of here. You three can finish sweeping. Senji and I will throw out the rocks and start bring the boxes in.”
Meiji, Jet, and Sun glared at Yuuto for a moment who was busy setting his broom down in front of the shed.
“Who made you our leader? No one’s taking order from you damn it.”
“What the boss said.”
“I’m with them.”
Yuuto crouched down by the shed and began picking up pieces of rubble. He stopped once he had gathered a small pile then he turned to Sun with a happy expression on his face. Yuuto’s eyes were closed and he had a big smile on his face.
“Hey, hey you mind helping me here.”
“What you just said you’d throw out the rocks.”
“And I will. I only have two hands and I can’t add anymore rocks to the pile I’m carry.”
Senji jogged over to Yuuto, setting his broom down before he starts adding rocks to the pile Yuuto is carrying. Sun grumbles to himself and heads over even though Meiji is staring bullets at him. After a while Yuuto and Senji get up and head to the dumpster which is located on the other side of the eastern building.
“You two better not take your sweet time or else ya gonna have to deal with us. You got me.”
Yuuto and Senji just continued walking along the length of the building. As they walk they can see the orange skyline as the sun slowly begins to set.
“I hope we finish soon I was really looking forward to that ramen.”
“The place stays open pretty late so we should be fine. But is this really ok? I mean you’re carrying more than half the boulders that were there. I’m only carrying a little. You don’t have to act tough if you’re having trouble you should give me some of them.”
Yuuto looks at Senji then at the pile of stones he is holding then back at Senji.
“Can you carry them?”
“Yeah, just let me get…”
“No, that’s not necessary I’m not trying to act tough or anything. It’s just this isn’t heavy for me.”
Senji’s jaw drops as he stares at Yuuto who just sort of shrugged.
“How in the world is that possible?”
“Oh well it’s just. Hey, look there’s the dumpster.”
Yuuto hadn’t meant to change the subject, in this instance he didn’t feel the need to hide why the rocks were as light as a feather to him. It was just that explaining would lead to another question one Yuuto would have a much harder time trying to explain. So as thing stood it was in his best interest not to say anything. Not long after Yuuto spotted the dumpster, he and Senji dumped the boulders in.
“It should only take about two more trips.”
“Yeah. Don’t over do it when it comes to the boxes though. We can be as careless as we want with the boulders. But the box might have something fragile so there’s no need to lift more than you can comfortably care. We wouldn’t want to break anything else.”
Plus, that would only give Mr. Yoshida more of an excuse to keep riding me. Wait what if he’s been watching me this entire time. If that’s true…did it look suspicious when I was carrying the boulders? Damn it Senji thought it was weird that I could lift so many. I really am doing a bad job of not attracting attention. Wait but it can’t be that weird right not if I give a complete rational explanation.
“Uh Yuuto. Yuuto you’re kinda spacing out.”
“Huh, oh sorry. Um, I work out a lot. Yup, it must be paying off you know.” Yuuto punctuated his sentence with an odd laugh which Senji took note of it but said nothing about it.
Yuuto and Senji made their way back to Meiji and the others. By the time they did Meiji, Jet, and Sun had almost finished sweeping. So Yuuto and Senji went ahead and grabbed some boxes while Meiji and Jet grabbed some of the boulders. After a while it became a rotating train between Yuuto and the others each grabbing what was left of the boulders until there was none left and then returning to pick up boxes of supplies to put in the shed.
As they put the boxes away Yuuto noticed Senji nearly getting tripped by Jet and pushed by Sun. He said nothing about that, as well as keeping quiet about the lame jokes they made about Senji and him.
I just remembered something the idiot trio attracted a lot of attention for me today. That and there the reason I have to do all this instead of filling my belly with ramen. And to top it off they are still messing with Senji after pushing him to summon a Lizard spawn on them. Alright looks like they really are idiots then.
After some time Senji headed to the other side of the eastern building while Yuuto was returning from it. Which meant Meiji’s and his friends were in the storage shed. Yuuto causally took a few quick steps forward reaching the shed before the trio left he entered. Standing behind them without saying a word.
“What the hell when'd you get here?”
“What do you want, can’t you see we’re busy?”
“You want to fight tough guy. Why? Is it cause you’re the great magician’s bodyguard or something? Or is it cause you can’t handle us messing with you like the great magician couldn’t.”
Meiji smiled widely even though the expression on Yuuto’s face was unreadable. The top of his face was covered by his hair and shadows. An odd grin formed just before Yuuto spoke.
“I’ll tell you this once. Since it’s a real pain repeating myself. I don’t care if you make fun of me. Hell. Give it your best shot if you think it will do anything. But today’s the last day you mess with Senji. Are we clear?”
Meiji shot a glance at his friend before the trio starts laughing. They laughed so hard that they don’t notice the blue outline around Yuuto body as an aura of energy started pouring out of him. The blue aura comes off him like steam emitting from his entire body. All of a sudden Meiji and the others stop laugh in fact it becomes hard from then to breath let alone stand. Both Jet and Sun drop to their knees while Meiji is barely standing. The ground rumbles slightly as the already damage wall begins cracking. Immediately it all stops and the aura disappears.
“Wha…what just happen? What the hell just happened?” Jet asks frantically.
Yuuto turns around and begins to leave before Meiji shouts at him.
“What the hell are you?”
Yuuto turns his head back to face Meiji tilts it to the side like he has no idea what he is talking about before answering him.
“Me? I’m just a student at Ichiryu no maho academy.”
