I could hear the chirping of birds as they flew overhead. A gentle breeze blew along with the smell of fragrant flowers. I laid in a meadow as the light of the warm sun bathed me. My eyes open to see the peaceful world around me.
“The hell is this?”
My own voice was unfamiliar to me. Instead of the boom of the demon lord. My voice sounded smaller. This change stirred a sudden curiosity in me with a hop I stood up and gave myself a quick once over examining my body.
My hair was spiky and crimson which was the same as usual. My skin was brown and my body was slender with a modest amount of muscle. My clothes were tan and plain in fact they were…
“These are peasant clothes. Oh my god…huh? God?”
My mouth made an odd expression that’s when I noticed two things. The first, something was altering what I was actually trying to say. Second, I had prominent lower canines that could be seen even when my mouth was closed.
I was reincarnated by some whatever. And now I’m supposed to what. Rain hellfire down and rule this land. Oh yeah that’s it. Wait…no I’m supposed to be the hero this time. How does one go about doing that I wonder?
As if I figured there’d be some instruction manual on the ground I looked around.
“Hey, what’s that?”
In the distance I spotted a strange stone. Not suspicious at all. Well what’s the worst thing that could happen? Seemingly without any caution I went over to the stone. As soon as I did writing began to appear in glowing blue letters.
[Hi, I see your reincarnation went successfully. Now you’ll need a name and don’t even try calling yourself demon lord that name is taken.]
“Mao.”
[Seriously? *Sigh* I guess. You probably already noticed this but you are now human, so get use to that. And because of that all your demonic powers and fortifications are gone. So sorry. But don’t worry you should be able to cast magic. And you are still considerably strong. If you want my advice I’d start by going into town and saving a princess or something. Slaying a dragon. Something easy like that. Bye now.]
The sound of a stone slab snapping in half at its base could be heard as I kicked the pillar knocking it over.
“Well that was stupid.”
“HOW COULD YOU?”
“Huh did someone say something?”
“I did. You big meanie. You destroyed the sacred stone. I am the stone’s guardian.”
Out of nowhere I could hear a disturbingly cute voice. I looked around for a moment seeing nothing then out of nowhere I saw a small floating ball of fur with two huge eyes. No discernible mouth and two small blue antennae sticking out of its powder blue fur.
No matter how I looked at it, this creature was disgustingly cute. Like seriously it was so adorable that even I a demon lord….former demon lord now I guess. Even I, a former demon lord felt like I could be charmed by this creature’s cuteness. Its cuteness could possible be the end of evil as I knew it. Deep inside I knew what I had to do.
“I will start my life anew as a hero. But first a fitting farewell to my former life.”
The blue puff ball looked at me curiously as I grabbed it suddenly.
“Imma chuck you into the sun.”
Mustering all the strength in my now human body I launched the furball into the sky. A second later I saw what looked like a star form in the sky. Dusting my hands off after a job well done I smiled confidently with my hands at my side.
“Muwahaha. Good riddance foul creature.”
“Boy that sure went far.”
“….Wha?”
At my side the furball floated. I pointed at the sky and then at the floating fur ball.
“Are you the same creature I just threw into the sky?”
The creature bobbed in the air which I took to mean it was nodding.
“How is that even…”
The creature appeared to shrug. “I’m just as confused as you are, chuu.”
“Huh? Chuu?”
“What do you mean chuu. Chuu?
“Why are you ending your sentences with chuu?”
The creature tilted to the side confused. “I don’t understand, chuu. Any way my name is…huh I don’t know what my name is. Where is this anyway? Oh, what’s that stone over there?”
“WHAT?! You said you were the stone’s guardian how do you not know what it is?”
The creature stared at me then pointed at the stone with a furry arm that I didn’t notice it had before.
“That stone, chuu?”
I blinked a few times almost unsure which one of us was confused.
“Oh. I just said that cause it seem like the thing to say, chuu.”
“How…nope never mind. Anyway, I’m gonna leave now. Bye.”
“Mao, where are chuu headed I wanna go chuu.”
I had already begun walking away stopping when I heard the creature replace the word too in that last sentence. For some reason that bothered me.
“Alright let’s try this again.”
I grabbed the creature a second time and threw it into the sky as hard as I could. It took me a moment to catch my breath but it had to be gone this time right.
“I think I saw the curvature of Terra. Hahaha just kidding there’s no way someone like chuu could throw me that far.”
Huh? Did that little bastard just insult me?
“Chuu! That’s what I’m going to call you.”
Chuu seemed taken aback by that announcement. “Chuu? Who would name something Chuu. Could chuu imagine just saying that all the time Chuu, chuu.”
I felt the energy drain from my body I blinked a handful of times and pointed at Chuu weakly. I wanted to say something but instead I slung my head down in defeat. This was my first battle on this world called Terra and I was soundly defeated.
