"Are you okay sir? Can you get up?"
I put my best innocent worried child face as I extended my hand to the man in the ground.
Doctor Laurence C. Davies. In the book, he was a genius researcher who got his post-doctorate at the young age of 15. He was also the creator of omega's inhibitors and worked for the omega's freedom alliance. When the protagonist went to the Federation's Academy, Laurence worked as a doctor there. You may say it's all thanks to this guy that Li Wei was never discovered as an omega while studying.
He was the biggest golden finger a desperate omega would want.
And here he was, in front of me.
Of course, I couldn't let such a delicious lamb-... ahem, I mean, such a person pass by.
When he saw me looking at him with a worried look, Laurence stopped crying. He stared me with a blanked face for five seconds before trying to hide his face and wipe it. He stood up in a hurry. His ears were red.
"I'm fine, little guy. Thank you."
He said with a smile and tried to go away.
No, I couldn't let our conversation be over like this!
"Why did they kick you out? Do you need money mister?"
"Ah? Well... More or less... I need money for my research."
I tried to give him a 'wow-you-are-really-great' kind of look.
"Are you a scientist mister? How cool!"
He scratched his cheek. His ears also had gotten redder
"What are you researching mister?"
From the experience I acquired in my last life, most scientists would become extremely happy when someone asks about their research and will try to explain it to you. I think this case also applied for Laurence as his eyes shined when I made him this question.
He started to talk about his research in an excited manner. I nodded and exclaimed as I pretended to have understood what he said
"Eh, so mister's research is about omega's inhibitors...Mister is really brave!"
"Eh? Me? Brave?"
"Of course"
I smiled.
"Not only there's no economic interest on it as omegas are a very poor minority group but I also heard the government is also vetoing such studies."
Laurence put on a grave expression and then he grasped my shoulders.
"Uh? What are you doing?"
"Little guy... Did you watch too much tv?"
"Uh?"
"Really? The government? What kind of conspiracy theory are kids nowadays reading?"
"W-Wait! I'm not lying really!"
The doctor's face was full of doubt.
D*nm. It's all because of this body's age. Of course, an adult would have difficulties believing in a seven-year-old child.
"It's true! I heard my parents talking about it! You know, with the population declining each year, the government is planning to encourage AO marriages!"
"Oh yeah, I heard something similar from a colleague... So what?"
"I-I mean, today there's no way for an omega to escape from the heat cycle right? Because of that, it's really hard for them to live normal lives. S-so when the state starts encouraging AO marriages they would be really happy."
I took a deep breath.
"But if omegas can buy inhibitors, they won't need alphas anymore and their childbirth rate will also decrease..."
"So the state is in dire need of omega's fertility... Is what you're saying?"
"Yes! Even with inhibitors omegas will face discrimination if they try to apply to normal jobs. If AO marriages are promoted omegas lives would become better and we could increase the federation's birth rate... Is what I heard my father say. The government doesn't want an inhibitor to be created right now. "
Yes, I could imagine the government's propaganda for promoting AO marriage. Lots of self-righteous worlds mixed with half-truths that sounded good to the ear. But, in the end, no matter how colorful is this picture depicting the new life they envisioned, it won't change the fact that omegas will still be used as birth machines.
"Are you telling the truth?"
I smiled
"Of course..."
...Not. Maybe there is some truth to it somewhere but, mostly, what I'm telling him is pure b*llsh*t. This is just one of the things the author forgot to explain. A huge plot hole.
Luckily for me, although this guy looked quite skeptical in the beginning, he seemed to have bitten the bait.
"... If you don't believe me you can try asking for investors somewhere else. But you should be re~ally careful"
I pretended to look rapidly at both sides to guarantee that there was no one else listening to the conversation and motioned for him to get closer.
" I heard that many researchers of this theme disapeared. My father said they were taken care of. I don't understand exactly what this means but my father's face was pretty bad when he said it. This should be a bad thing, right mister?"
The poor men gulped.
"So, is that why I can't contact Doctor Simons anymore?"
Who is this Doctor Simons? Anyways I put on a grave expression as I nodded towards him.
"I think so."
Doctor Laurence looked extremely terrified. He was sweating and his hands trembled. Oh dear, now I was getting worried that he would stop completely his research on omega's inhibitors.
This can't do.
I firmly took his hands and looked into his eyes.
"Doctor, even though you are facing such adversities you still didn't give up! I admire you!"
"Eh?Ah-..."
"I really want to help such a courageous and self-sacrificing person like you!"
"Sorry but I don't think-"
"I'm a bit ashamed to say this but I still can't invest any large quantities on you... For starters, how about xxxxxxxx stars?"
"Yes?!"
The sum I told him I'd invest was about seventy percent of all the money I saved until now. A normal worker would probably take almost 10 years to get that amount but taking into account this money would be used for research purposes it was still a bit lacking.
However, it was still more money than the doctor thought he'd get.
I gave him my most brilliant smile
"Yay! So this is a promise! So let's exchange our contact information now!"
Laurence still looked a bit dazed as we exchanged our contact information. I kept smiling as we talked and even got him to tell me his home address. Unfortunately, our conversation was kept short as soon the blonde lady who guided me here came to tell me that one of the rooms was finally vacated.
This day was more fruitful than I thought it would be.
Finally, I could see a speck of light in my future.
