7:05 pm, At the Dinner Table
Both Riley and Konstantine are at a silent, with both having a New-York Strip Steak, medium-rare. Both enjoy their first bite separately and still becoming awkward.
Riley decides to break the silence and bring up, “Aren’t we here to discuss something?”, Konstantine realizes and answers, “Oh yeah, sorry.”, Riley saw the invulnerability of Konstantine. He couldn’t believe in his eyes that he is seeing someone who helped him since his first day be in a position that he has never seen before.
“Did something happen at someplace?”, Konstantine is shocked at the question Riley asked causing him to reply, “Wh-what made you think of that?”, Riley clenched his utensils as he heard the stutter.
He lets go of his grip and starts telling off Konstantine, “You have been uncharacteristically nervous since I picked you up, not to mention that it is your idea to talk to me about something, and you haven’t said a single word to me all the way till this dinner! So enough hiding and tell me what happened!?”, as Riley saw the shock on Konstantine’s face he realizes that he caused a scene. He looked around and sees a few people staring at him. He apologizes and went back on his seat.
Konstantine is defenseless, his thought of the one night stand became the least of his worries for now. He decides to come out and confront it, “I'm really sorry Riley, it’s actually embarrassing for me to talk about it, considering that I brought you into this.”, Riley figured that something had happened and sees the embarrassment Konstantine is holding. “You can take your time with it Konstantine. I promise I won’t tell anyone, right?”, Riley said that to comfort Konstantine from his nervousness and from his rant. “Okay.”, replied Konstantine.
Konstantine takes his time to confess what happened. Riley reaches his glass of water for a drink. Mid-way, Konstantine confidently says, “I spent the night with a guy.”, hearing that causes Riley to spray out the water from his mouth. Caught off-guard, he tries to ask while he couldn’t get the words out, “You- what? W-When?”, “Four days ago.”, Konstantine replied in an embarrassed manner.
Riley is astonished, not being able to process fully of what Konstantine just said. “How did it happen?”, Konstantine looked at Riley as he heard the question. He told Riley the whole way through of what happened that day.
The awkward air rises again when Konstantine is done explaining. Both men couldn’t even dare themselves to speak up to get over the situation. “So, that became your first?”, Riley breaks the silence. Konstantine replies embarrassingly, “Yeah, it did become my first.”
Riley became more concerned for Konstantine asking, “You didn’t tell him your identity, do you?”, “No, I gave a fake name.”, Konstantine replied immediately. That puts relief on Riley as he sighs then responds, “That could have been worse.”, Konstantine rebuts the statement replying, “It has.”, “Wait, what!?”, Riley got scared has he replied.
Konstantine sighs and then replies, “He expects me to visit him again if I can.”, Riley realizes the situation on Konstantine’s end asking, “And you couldn’t ignore it?”, “No, I couldn’t. Not after him being so generous.”, Konstantine replied despairingly.
“I see.”, that is all that Riley could say. They continued with their dinner, and as they are finished and paid their meals, Riley drove Konstantine back to his apartment. The whole drive, Riley couldn’t stop thinking of the scenario that Konstantine had to go through. The visuals of Konstantine’s one nightstand and his future came into Riley’s head.
As they stop at the parking area behind the apartment, Konstantine exits the car, turns his attention to him saying, “I’m sorry.”, Riley looked at him and asks, “For what?”, “For being the cause of your outburst.”, replied Konstantine apologetically. Riley responded, “It’s fine.”, Konstantine asks in concern, “You promise you won’t tell anyone, right?”, “I’ve already promised that.”, Riley replied, reminding of the conversation earlier before the dinner. “Oh, right.”, said Konstantine as he recalls.
“Well, good night, Riley.”, said Konstantine before he heads back to his apartment. Riley replied with “Good night” as well and drove off. As Riley is on the stoplight, he sat back on his seat thinking about the conversation at the dinner table.
The visuals of Konstantine’s one nightstand came to his head again. Riley said to himself, “Guess I was too late, aren’t I?”, the light turns green after he said that, he drove on thinking of what would happen if he were to knew about Konstantine earlier.
