this kind of Q and A is really a plus for this story, where we usually see things mostly from Sam's perspective.
I'm not surprised about it, but it seems that Lina has much more insight into her and Sam relationship that he does; it probably explain why she was not more upset about him avoiding her back then (or at least, that she did not hold grudges for long).
Sam's parents reasons to want Sam to become a lawyer are both more reasonable, and much less reasonable that I first thought ^^ Wanting your kid to do what you couldn't do is rarely a good idea; but at least, they seem to have taken in account Sam's abilities and personality, so that was not a complete arbitrary "climb the social ladder at all cost" choice.
