My footsteps echoed in the hallways as I ran with all my might. Ringing resounded in my ears as my blood pumped vigorously in my veins. Sweat fell from my pores all over my body as my muscles screamed in protest. I felt a trail of saltwater travel down my hairline to the back of my neck and continue its journey between my shoulder blades. It finally achieved its way at my boxer's waistband, like many other droplets had done before it. I could feel my lungs burning from the rapid exit and enter of the oxygen and the continuous decrease of it. I think I never felt like this before, as if my whole body were just obeying to one thought, run. Even when I escaped from my old pack, I didn't feel like this, so despaired to reach my goal.
My feet came to a stop as the doctor entered my sight. My abrupt halt caused my gravity center to lose its stability, making my upper body fall toward the front while my lower body stayed anchored to the floor. My hands flew in front of me to stop the greeting between my face and the floor. I let out a puff as all the air filling my lungs went out and my rib cage became smaller. My hands singed from the impact, but I ignored the pain and got up again, facing the doctor that was looking at me with an astonished face and confused eyes. I tried to regain my regular pattern of breathing, which resulted to be more difficult than I first thought. I decided to stop wasting time by doing this useless attempt because I figured I wouldn't be able to achieve it in the near future.
I took the book and put him on the doctor's face, like directly on it. He took a step back and his hands went to take the book. The doctor then brought the book to a distance where he could easily read the title of the section, I put the book open to. His eyes immediately widened, and he looked at me with a face full of hope. I nodded at him and tried to swallow some saliva in my parched throat that felt like sandpaper.
He continued to read the whole chapter as fast as he could which I had to say was only slightly inferior to what I could do, a great feat. I waited while tapping my feet impatiently on the floor. I had succeeded in regaining my normal way of breathing when he finally ended his lecture and when he looked at me with slightly hesitant eyes with hope, I immediately understood. He wanted me to go meet the dragons and find a cure for my mate. Our pack just went to war, all the soldiers were tired and wouldn't be able to go in this journey with me. It was just impossible. I was also a little tired but I didn't fight as much as the others so I would be able to endure it. I was my mate's only hope.
I immediately ran to my bedroom and started to pack a bag big enough to contain all the necessary things, which wasn't much. I was a werewolf so I could hunt when I was hungry and sleep outside while warming myself with my fur. I just took some collations if it happened that I passed by a desolate land without food. I was used to not eating much or at all because of my old pack so I didn't bring much. My bag also had some place for a few sets of clothes, we never knew what could happen. I also let some place for the medicine that I would hopefully bring back here to save James.
I put the bag on my back and ran to the backyard. While I was running toward the forest, I felt the presence of the Alpha. I turned my head back and saw him on the doorstep, looking at me with tears in his eyes. He mouthed me a few words and I nodded at him solemnly before speeding up and shifting in my wolf form while jumping in the air.
'Save him, please' were his words.
