I honestly cannot understand the hostility of that group of Ponies, I know that in Alien Isolation the same thing happens, group of survivors who attack others; but that was because they did not know exactly what the hell was going on, they had no idea that a Xenomorph was attacking them, they believed it was a group of assassins or a single psychopath who was doing that. However, here it is clear that the attack comes from an extraterrestrial entity, so the paranoia of this small group is not well justified. It's the same as if Newt had attacked the Marines with a gun as soon as she saw them arrive
