The Medic, The Necromancer, The Fighter

Chapter 9: Jackson

Chapter 9: Jackson

Aug 05, 2020

Lets review. I was trying to memorize a map of this place, I meet a rude blonde and she randomly starts crying and fainting for no apparent reason. Okay. That I know. I also know how to get to the Nurse’s office from here. What I don’t know is how the heck I’m supposed to explain this situation to Nurse Tobi. Sup my friends, I’m Jackson. And you’re watching Dizzy Channel (No one? Man, that channel was my childhood.) Anyway, I’m rushing as fast as I can, trying to half carry, half drag this random girl to the nurse, when I hear that orientation has started. Great, I’m going to miss that too! Suddenly the girl I’m holding opens her eyes. And- oh crap- they’re glowing. I’ve watched enough Oppa: The Last Air Bison to know that can’t be good. She starts glowing and suddenly sits up.

“What happened? Did I pass out? Are you trying to kidnap me!? I’ve already been kidnapped and brought here, thank you very much! How dare you do this to the Prin- never mind. Shouldn’t we be getting to Orientation?” I look at her. She must not have heard anything while she was out.

“Orientation ended like two minutes ago. We’re supposed to go back to our rooms. But I’m taking you to the nurse so-”

“What? Why? I feel fine!”

“Girl, you literally just passed out and started glowing. How is that fine? I’ll have to hear the Nurse call you fine before I believe you. Now c’mon. The nurse’s office is that way.”

“How do you know? When did you get here?”

“My parents dropped me off yesterday. I told you, my talent is Cartography. I memorized the entire map of this place. Now please c’mon!” I lead her down stark hallways lined with doors and classrooms. After a few minutes, I stop. “This is it. C’mon in. I met the nurse yesterday for my inhaler. She rarely leaves.” I push open the door and sure enough, Nurse Tobi is sitting at her desk. She seems to be organizing people’s meds or something. She looks up when she sees us.

“Hello, Jackson! How are you? Can I help you?” Nurse Tobi is always so nice.

“Yes. Um, this girl here kind of passed out in the hallway and then glowed and then she was fine and I-”

“Woah, Jackson! Slow down. Do you know why she passed out?”

“N-no. But it looked like she was having a panic attack.”

“And she was fine aft-” The girl marches up to Nurse Tobi.

“I am fine, and I can speak for myself. I don’t remember much though.” Nurse Tobi looks at her apprehensively.

“What is your name, child?”

“Cecily Miller.” I feel my jaw drop. Cecily Miller!? The princess of Frangland!? I see her majesty smirk as she notices the surprise on my face. Nurse Tobi, however, doesn’t seem too surprised.

“Cecily Miller. I think I know why you healed so quickly. Your Talent is healing. You must’ve had a surge of magic, however, because most Healers just know the human body very well and can perform surgeries blindfolded and whatnot. I’ve never heard of someone who’s glowed though. Anyway, I think you’re fine. You should probably get back to your rooms, though. Everyone is kind of mingling around and it may help to get to know some people.” I nod, and the princess and I walk out the door. I hand her an extra map I drew the other day and draw a path to her room for her. She nods her thanks and walks away. I make my way to my room.

When I arrive I see a sign on the door which reads Pod A: Jackson Jones, Lyson Smith, Zariah Almasi, Mateah Nowak, Henri Mc’Keen. Adult Leader: Melanie Rodriguez I walk in and see a girl with long pink hair sitting on an armchair playing something on an electric guitar. She has headphones plugged into the speaker, so I can’t hear. In the room, there is a long desk that stretches the length of the window on the wall, some couches, and an armchair. There’s also a TV and some gaming equipment above bookcases. The girl in the chair looks up when she sees me and smiles, taking her headphones off.

“Hey! You must be Jackson! Talent Cartography, correct?” I nod “Great! I’m Melanie, your Adult Leader. Everyone else has checked in already. You’re a bit late, but I won’t ask. How about I lead you to your dorm, huh?” She gets up and I follow her up a flight of stairs, to the right, and down a hallway. Three doors down we get to a room with a green door.

“This is the boys' dorm! On your application you said you identify as Male. Please let me know if that is not what you currently identify as.” I shake my head and she nods and opens the door. I walk in and see two boys my age. One of them waves when they see me come in and the other one ignores me until Melanie introduces me. “Hey, guys! This is Jackson. His talent is Cartography. Why don’t you introduce yourself and get to know each other? I’ll be downstairs if you need anything. Have fun! Oh, and if anyone dies while I’m gone, I will not be happy. Bye!” On that note, Melanie turns on her heel and walks out the door.

Anyone catch those refrences? Btw, this is a double update! Stay safe everyone! Also, I've been working on drawings for the characters, so my chapters will start having thumbnails soon.

In a world filled with magic, certain people have special talents. Talents are increased skills in an ordinary skill, or magic to do one of the Five Arts (Necromancy, Whispering, Teleportation, Bending, and Searching). Follow Calanta, Cecily, Flannery, and others on an adventure through a new world. Happy reading!

P.S. I will be using different languages in this book...you should be able to get what the characters are saying but if you can't, google translate! Also, one of the characters is Arabic and ideally she would speak Arabic but because English writes left to right and Arabic writes left to write (correct me if I'm wrong) I couldn't get the formatting right to use Arabic as a language in the book. Also, I use Google Translate and Duolingo for every language but Spanish, so if I have any errors please don't hesitate to correct me. Thanks!
