Loa Abilities: light / soul
Family: Hasina (mother), Behrad (father), Aizat (sister), Madi (sister)
Design
- Haru has black hair and blue eyes with gold. The gold changes and shifts in intensity, becoming more and less prominent depending on his emotions or when he’s using his powers.
- Haru is 6’0” which is right above average for Lugosian men. He’s not broad but strong, his musculature balanced for both ease of movement and strength.
- Haru is, without a doubt, desirable to both men and women. He stands out in a crowd not just because of this but because he has an almost natural regal bearing.
Clothing:
- Haru prefers the more relaxed/casual version of the Palamidia uniform. He wears button-up shirts with his jacket loose, but sometimes just a T (with jacket buttoned to hide it). It isn’t that he finds the formal uniform uncomfortable (he’s used to that kind of thing) but he doesn’t want to seem like he’s over/out dressing Kanna. (He also knows she has a bit of a distaste for the more formal look—mostly because that is what Velinius wears exclusively.)
- Haru walks the line between relaxed casual and neat when out of uniform (post Act I).
- Scars: while he does not have the same array that Kanna or Vahn do, Haru earned a few scars himself from battle. The most prominent is one on his chest, descending from the left side. This would have been a fatal blow had Kanna not jumped in the way to stop the attack.
Story
- Haru is the eldest of Queen Hasina’s children and the only son. He has two younger sisters, Aziza and Sabah.
- Lugos is a matrilineal society, so Haru wasn’t meant to be an heir to the throne. This meant he was pinned for military service, even before his powers were made evident.
- While the royal Lugos line has had a history of latent light abilities (they have a magnetic appeal that allows them to rule with general ease). Haru is the first in generations to have loa-level empathy. His abilities manifested suddenly (and violently) when he was a child.
- After his powers manifested, his parents tended to keep him away from his siblings and the family unit. He lived separately from them and had caretakers as well as tutors to teach him.
- His caretakers were a lovely older couple that spoke cajil, an oral dialect that is regionally specific to a certain area of Kirin. Haru picked it up in an effort to please them, but he doesn’t have much use for it.
- Haru entered the Palamidia’s Ancillary Academy at 14 and began his training in earnest, though he did have a bit of a head start (considering.) Not long after this, his first caretakers passed. His parents hired more tutors and trainers to replace them, constantly cycling out the talent pool, in order to give him an edge against his fellow classmates.
- Osawa was at the Academy, and he was Haru’s first real friend.
- Haru transferred to the Tower at 19 for his final officer testing and integration into the Palamidia forces. This is when he met Kanna.
- He was named Kanna’s Second at 26.
- He is 30 at the start of Shadow’s Prey
Character
- Haru has never had a want for attention. His caretakers spoiled him. His tutors praised him. However, he has never felt a sense of belonging.
- Haru has an irrational need to prove himself. He was essentially ejected from his birth family, and while his caretakers where kind people who did care for him, they didn’t treat him like he was “theirs.”
- Haru faces almost every situation with a stubborn single-mindedness. He sets a goal and drives blindly towards it.
- Haru was raised to be a soldier, and not just that but an officer. However, he became Kanna’s soldier. His loyalty is to her, not the Palamidia.
- He is patient. He knows how to wait for the right time/opportunity to make a move. Because of this, he is always observing, and he has impeccable timing in most things.
